I enjoyed Buscemi as a hilariously incompetent God in Miracle Workers.

Watching The Vow on HBO. Documentary about some weird cult collective that involves a handful of sci-fi tv show actresses. It's padded as hell, this thing could be half as many episodes as it is, but it is fairly addictive. The main thing that I can't wrap my head around is all of the footage they have of everything. I've never seen a documentary about something so exhaustively recorded on every level.

She has some interesting opinions, but to me she's not really that funny or engaging. I gave up after the 2nd episode.

Season 5 of The Expanse dropped a couple of months ago, under my radar for some reason. I just assumed it would be delayed. Anyway, it's delivering the goods once again. This is one of the best space sci-fi series ever (up there with Babylon 5). It's like Mad Max in space, all the Belters and OPA - so many great characters.

Watching season 2 of Boardwalk Empire, the first time it's all new to me as I had seen season 1 many years ago. It's exciting to finally continue the story. The show grows and grows on me but it will just never be something like The Sopranos. I feel it will forever be a mid-tier kinda thing. It is enjoyable though...

It's not an easy one to get into. I binned it on my first attempt as well. It's quite complex with loads of characters and stations all over the solar system, it has been described as Game Of Thrones in space. In fact, when Netflix axed it after season 3 there was a massive campaign to bring it back and George RR Martin no less was one of the ones leading it. It's based on a series of Novels by James SA Corey and if you can stick with it (and your into space sci-fi with a bit of steampunk thrown in for good measure) then rewards await you. Lot's of great characters and villains. I didn't like Avasarala at first, but she eventually turned out to be kind of badass in her own way. Also hard to understand what the Belters (or Beltalowda) are talking about because they have their own language, but they are totally badass. A race of human colonials living in the asteroid belt who all look like something out of Mad Max, what's not to like about that?

It's all about politics and war between the Inners, the Belters and the OPA (Outer Planetary Alliance) and the protomolecule that finds it's way from a distant solar system. A futuristic space sci-fi with no aliens, so far in the story anyway.

Often the ones with the bad pilot turn out to be the epics. It was the same when Babylon 5 came out, it sucked so bad I gave up mid way through season 1. But then in Season 2 I gave it another go and it turned out to be probably the most mindblowing space sci-fi series of all time, and possibly my all time favourite.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Unfortunately dense political sci-fi is a genre I don't enjoy at all so I'll probably never watch it. I'm glad it's supposedly good though. I can not find any new shows that I think are any good, which is mainly why I watch older shows.

We also recently watched See (segue from previous post? Check) while checking out Apple TV+'s offering. Lots of holes in the writing and eye rolling moments yet I would quite happily start season 2 to see where it goes.

I truly hope you love it like I did eventually. It's a slow burner. I reckon you should probably know by a few episodes into season 2 if it's your bag or not. Amazon have kept the show intact following S4 and S5 and it just keeps getting better. I don't believe the rumours that S6 will be the final season because it has so much potential.

One thing to note, the author I quoted James SA Corey is actually a pen name (aren't they all) but the interesting thing is the brains behind it is actually two guys. There are two people writing the novels, which is unique and interesting for me anyway.

Camina Drummer has turned out to be one of the most favourite characters from it (played so well by Cara Gee) but S5 introduced a few more epic characters.

Just like Game Of Thrones it seems convoluted and confusing at first but if you roll with it then you the get the gist of what's going on, and if you are a true fan then there is much more beyond :)

Just binged the first 3 seasons of Colony, another great sci fi series! Pretty sure Travelers is still my number 1 of recent years though, and the other great thing about that series is they wrapped it up so well at end - whereas some piss arse TV execs for some reason decided to pull the plug on Colony, just as shit was getting real. That's a real bummer because it was originally intended to run for a 5 season story arc (which was utterly enthralling from the start and throughout)

Great premise for a series (cf. V maybe?) and great characters. I actually watched the whole thing thinking the guy who plays Will Bowman in it was the same guy who played Jamie Lannister in Game Of Thrones (they do look similar). I recognised him at the start but for some reason my brain connected with GOT instead of the more correct character in Lost. It was fucking Sawyer from Lost! Which I never clocked until I googled "Colony Season 4" and found an interview with the actor. Sort of like one of those times when you are convinced for years that two people are the same person, and then one day you realise. Only I knew they were two people. I was like, guy's playing a really convincing part there and his America accent is really convincing..

Kind of unsettling in a way also since the overall plot is very similar to what's happening now! Everyone in lockdown, green zones, cops running around with face muzzles on acting like Nazis. What's that all about, are they (again) trying to condition our minds for something?

If dystopian sci-fi disaster movies is your thing then this ticks all the boxes, and there's plenty of action as well as great character interplay.

The season 3 cliffhanger was bad ass, as you would expect but sadly that's the end unless Amazon takes it on (which I hope) but Josh Holloway just signed up for another new series so..

Peter Jacobson was also epic in it, as was Tory Kittles. And Sarah Wayne Callies has got a cracking pair of legs.

Yeah, Colony is pretty good. I think I liked season 1 the best though. The only reason I watched it is because it starred Sawyer from LOST and was showran by Carlton Cuse from LOST.

Ah right same producer as Lost then too. I think everyone agrees that show lost the plot a bit towards then end, but it was still good telly. I think Colony held it's end up right to the end of Season 3, if anything it got better.

I had heard that Colony season 3 was the best season, one of the reasons I started watching the show, but I don't know...season 1 just felt the most intense and suspenseful to me. Season 2 had a lot of things that didn't make sense to me (if that's the one where they are in the camp in the woods?) and characters acting more irrationally. Season 3 I still liked but I think hearing that it was incredible maybe over-hyped it too much for me. I was still frustrated it got canceled, I think the show had tons of potential to keep exploring and going crazier in that story.

*Potential Spoilers Alert*

There was a lot of stuff going on and it was hard to keep up with the plot and confusing at times, but there was enough there for me to keep on top of the overall plot and some things did get explained later. Such as the outliers, when that idea was introduced it explained a lot of previous scenes. I thought the first half of Season 3 went a bit Walking Dead (but in a good way, as opposed to the same tired old plot kind of way). Then it suddenly jumped forward a few weeks and left me a bit confused because I thought it was a flashback episode at first. It might have helped if they had put something in to explain that and bridge the gap. I had to pause half way through and look into things, and I didn't have to look far on IMDB to find a whole bunch of folk complaining about the same thing - it's like they just missed out a couple of episodes and expected everyone to be up to speed.

I don't really know why they cancelled it but I guess we live in a world where TV execs like returns on their investments and the way the plot was going it looked like things might be heading a bit over budget?

Haha yeah we were also confused when it jumped forward. Season 3 definitely left me wanting more, but I found season 1 to be more "woh gotta watch the next episode" addictive.

As for show recommendations, we just finished You're The Worst. A really fascinating show. It starts out as an edgy sitcom about jerks falling in love, lots and lots of sex jokes and crude stuff and dark humor (I'm still amazed what tv shows can get away with nowadays, there are scenes that basically look like porn), but starting around season 2 it gets more ambitious, experimental, and incredibly dramatic. By the final season the jokes got better and the drama got better and even just the filmmaking (beautifully shot show with tons of complex visual ideas, long takes, etc.) The emotions and character psychology gets more complex too. A lot of experimental conceptual episodes, not unlike what Community turned into as well.

I recommend it! I will admit though, a lot of season 1 I did not find funny and was wondering if I made a mistake in checking the show out.

Community was hilarious! Was a bit gutted when they sort of ended it somewhat self referentially ambiguous as to whether we'd be getting any more though.

Will check that out. I agree it's mad the violence and porn the TV & film industry can get away with these days; but woe betide if any of them has a white actor playing the part of any other ethnic group, or they cast a man or a woman to play the part of a trans character.

I mean look, I generally agree with you, but I'm not sure this is the best thread to get into all that!

You're The Worst is really crass (I mean the title, it's about bad asshole people) and a lot of the jokes early on didn't work for me, but it really develops into something kind of profound and complex. It's worth sticking it through! I always enjoy watching an artist find their voice.

Lucky you Season 3 finally returned to Netflix. I had to resort to stealth tactics in order to satisfy my hunger for further plot development (and in doing so missed the full HD experience somewhat)

Can't wait for Season 4 of Ozark to appear now (Breaking Bad by the lakes) and seriously I've said it before Travelers is a real hidden gem too. Rumours of a comeback are going around, which would be a shame because they rounded the story arc so well at the end of season 3. I'd put that series down as my #1 finale of all time actually, the ending was as near perfection that you could get. I could see this series ultimately spawning many spin offs and films that aren't as good, where everyone sort of considers the first run as somehow separate from subsequent timelines that emerge from it, eg. Terminator and Nightmare on Elm Street

Anyway I'm glad you're getting into some TV shows that are more easily relatable to waking reality

Just binged on another great new TV series courtesy of the Americas. It's like there's a big machine over there churning out box sets.

StartUp: Set in Miami it's about the internet, cryptocurrencies, big tech companies, gangsters, cartels, governments etc. Really interesting story arc running through the first 3 seasons that also seems to be a reflection of modern times again, and is probably (like with Colony) also part of a psy-op to condition us for the coming NWO autocracy.

Bitcoin is all the rage these days and I'm getting random folk contacting me on Telegram inviting me to invest in it! I tell them all, my days of gambling ended a few years ago when I lost £100 on one hand on a game of poker in my local casino. Right now Bitcoin will probably fetch you a fair old $ or £ but when the WEF hopefully don't succeed in obsoleting all current forms of monetary exchange, some day in the future we might be trading rare old coins for lots of whatever cyber currency we're using?

Seems like this series has suffered the same fate as Colony, still waiting to hear if it's being renewed for another season. It was initially produced by Crackle but I think it was put on the burner after a hostile takeover or something. Unlike Colony though it kind of felt like it had run it's course by the end of season 3 though, but still worth a poke. I ploughed through it all in 6 days which I think sets a new box set binge record for me. Feast your eyes upon it.

We're mid Season 2 and definitely enjoying it, we do need subtitles on to keep up with the belter lingo but didn't find season 1 all that painful aside from the first few episodes. Thanks for the rec!
