Started The Witcher. Two episodes in and eh. I'm not really into fantasy and all the elves and silly names and gobbledygook just makes my brain shut down. But mainly the writing doesn't seem very good.
Impossible to watch without subtitles too, which is annoying. All the dialogue is them saying fictional names of people and towns and spells and stuff and we were like what the hell are they saying?? until putting the subtitles on. |

Decided to take the plunge with Netflix Hollywood this week. Seemed a bit mainstream, not dark and depressing enough but as it turned it it's actually very bloody good and probably going to win an emmy award. |

Correction, it's not actually new, but it's up on youtube i think for the first time. I think it was produced in 2015. |

The Deuce season 3. The Deuce is a great show. I was actually a background extra on seasons 2 and 3!
Also showing my girlfriend Fawlty Towers which is just the funniest show ever. I'm happy she likes it so much.
We watched Solar Opposites which I had some mixed reactions to. |

Rewatching Season 5 of Orange Is The New Black. Oh no wait, my mistake it's just some videos on twitter of a bunch of folk looting malls. |

Rewatching The Wire. It's my first rewatch since watching it about nine years ago. Still the best series ever made. |

I rewatched it a few months ago. I used to think it was just a bit overrated. My opinion has changed. Absolutely brilliant (and hilarious and tragic) the second time around. It makes most other TV just look so damn bad. |

Parasite is a lot of fun, not what I was expecting.
Ad Astra is just beautiful, loved it.
The Lighthouse is a trip, good luck watching that movie. Fun, dark, creepy, horrific |

I liked all three of those movies.
I just watched the Watchmen HBO show. I thought it was OK. I didn't like it as much as both the original comic (obviously) and Lindelof's previous TV works. I admired aspects of it and didn't like other aspects of it. Jeremy Irons was the standout to me. |

Anybody looking forward to Dune? |

I'm Thinking Of Ending Things:
New Charlie Kaufman film on Netflix. Should appeal to the Lynch fans, it's weird as well. Awks everywhere.
Netflix recommended it to me after I watched The Social Dilemma (also worth a look, and quite disturbing). Basically a documentary about the power of social media on our lives, scary stuff. All the pieces of the puzzles are starting to come together, and it's starting to look like the plan is to destabilise the entire world through employing enormously complex AI algorithms to spy on us through our social media accounts and influence our behaviour. No seriously, watch this shit it's not a tin foil hat theory it's actually happening. This is how the NWO are going to take over the world.
So anyway, I spend an hour and a half being told not to click on things the internet recommends to me and then at the end the internet recommends a really good new film from Charlie Kaufman, which I could not resist because Being John Malkovic and Adaptation are classic offbeat masterpieces. The irony (I thought) as I clicked play and watched it. It's got Jesse Plemons and David Thewlis in it, who are both great actors. Thewlis is really funny. |

Finished my rewatch a few weeks ago - still an amazing show. I didn't realise there is now three series of The Deuce. I really enjoyed the first one as it was nice and gritty as you'd expect from a David Simon show but never got around to the second series. Must get onto it soon.
At the minute we're watching Legion. It's OK. It's not the genre I'll usually go for but my girlfriend wanted to watch it. The Fargo (TV) creator is behind it and it also features Aubrey Plaza so it does just about enough to satisfy me. |

I just started Carnivale.
I get annoyed whenever people use the term "Lynchian," as nothing is Lynchian. My friend told me Carnivale was Lynchian, then he admitted just using the term to irritate me.
I'm enjoying it so far. |

Watching The Mandalorian. Me and my girlfriend just started season 2. I've never been into Star Wars, but this is a fun show, and the puppets are cute and cool. My girlfriend had been officially done with Star Wars after the cruel dumpster fire of the new trilogy (and the incredibly dull Rogue One), but this is like her favorite thing ever. She loves it and I can tell it's successfully clicking the nostalgia in her as opposed to peeing all over it like the new trilogy. These are mostly her opinions on the movies as I remained mostly indifferent to all of it. |

Totally with you and your girlfriend. This is the best Star Wars thing since the original trilogy. The new trilogy is so pathetic it makes the prequels seem good. I didn't even watch the last part of the trilogy yet. Probably never will.
The Mandalorian is great. Hope they can keep it going in the next season. |

Also watched The Queen's Gambit but was pretty underwhelmed by it.
Um...I watched the Animaniacs new season. I'm not sure why but I was curious about what animation is looking like these days (short answer: not great but not bad) and Katie Rice is a Ren and Stimpy animator I used to like and she directed like half the season. I was pretty turned off by it when I heard about how Warner Bros (or Spielberg??) kept the creator of the show out of it and he is pretty pissed off and gets no money from this.
In a shocking development, I have been enjoying The Simpsons season 31. I've given up on the show three times in my lifetime (where I proclaim "never again" and stop watching for a few years) but boredom/curiosity brings me back. But season 31 is actually pretty solid, as long as you aren't expecting "classic Simpsons", and who is anymore? Every episode has gotten a few solid laughs out of me and the plots have felt pretty refreshed and interesting. Call me crazy!
For Christmas we watched a few Christmas movies and so far the highlight is Black Christmas, a totally scary weird slasher movie from the 70s with great characters and a terrifying killer. I plan to show my girlfriend Christmas Evil, which is one of my favorite movies, though I've only seen it once like 20 years ago. |

Disney+ has allowed me to revisit the Simpsons as well. Which seasons do you feel are the best? |

I've been jumping around to different seasons. There's some really good episodes sprinkled in among some inferior ones.
I watched that new George Clooney movie "The Midnight Sky" last night and thought it was good. Recommended. |

Is anyone binging anything interesting on New Year's Day?
I used to watch the Twilight Zone marathon every year when I was a kid. Still one of the best shows of all time.
Would be interested to hear what people are doing. |

Watched Atlantics last night, a 2019 film from Senegal.
Very beautiful and haunting, mysterious and intriguing, perplexing even, meditative / contemplative, to the point of being slow moving.
Thumb up |

When it premiered I watched Boardwalk Empire season 1 but then never continued. Starting it again with the goal of actually checking out all 5 seasons. 4 episodes in so far. It's not a great show...but it's watchable. You expect more from someone who wrote such great Sopranos episodes, but the show feels very superficial, with some really clunky dialogue here and there. It's got the production value but there's no soul to it.
Hoping it finds its voice though...I don't see why it wouldn't with the talent involved. |

I feel like if a show wants me to watch it for 5 seasons it's got to be more than "watchable." Pass for now, although I love Buscemi. |

Buscemi is weirdly not very good in it. Like he doesn't have a handle on his character or something? It's really strange. He's one of my favorite actors. |
