Awesome show. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Killer pacing, set, high energy, the works. I got a huge kick out of Is She Weird, Velouria, Subbacultcha, and the best In Heaven segue ever: Blown Away. Definitely the most underrated song of the evening, nobody seemed to know it (compared to ever other song they played).
Oh, and they played Bam Thwok. I haven't been keeping to up on the setlists, but I suspect this might have been the first time? Sounded awesome.
Way too tired to do a full report/review plus I don't have all that much more to say about it... |

Anyone recorded this show? I MUST have this first live version of Bam Thwok!
I'm bored with the valleys and bored by the peaks. So I bought a ticket to the Pixies |

whats the deal with Blown Away? what gave frank the impression its wasnt a crowd favourite? i think i've missed a thread somewhere. would love to know the story/any stories behind why this Pixies song is one of the underrateds.
and Bam Thwok! Yay! its apart of the rotation. it had to happen sooner or later. totally happy for yous who got to witness it, but boy am I jealous. cant wait to hear. |

Blown Away is on Bossanova, that's the deal.

So is Bossanova held in such high esteem too? man, i just love everything that man writes. yeah i know certain songs are weaker or stronger than others, but any little ditty will do from Frank. I can remember hearing opinion by kurt for the first time, not the best ever written but just the fact it was a new Kurt song was enough to make it exciting (sorry, i seem to be quotin Nirvana and Pixies together alot today....yawn...cliche!) |

Just count how many Bossa or TLM songs are on best of, setlists ect...
real fans love them too, but for the average rock audience it's only doolitle and COP and surfer

blown away sounds nice, but if they're gonna start tossing in bossa nova songs, they need to be dig for fire, hang wire, or stormy weather... great live anthems.
it wasn't anything about anything |

I admit that I didn't know a couple of the songs 'cause I've not heard them before, but other than that....the whole show just rocked. I really loved the assault-style pace that they played at....never gave you a chance to catch a breath or rest...now THAT'S a band that plays for it's fans!
I waited a loooonng time to see this band play, and I wasn't disappointed. It was cool to hear songs like "Isla de Encanta" and "Hey". I would've loved if Kim got to sing "Into The White".
Dig For Fire and Hang Wire would've been cool as well.
does anybody have a complete setlist from last night's show? I have a buddy back east who's curious as to what they played. |

I know I've missed out on some bands in my time that I never got to see...but I'm extremely grateful that I can scratch the Pixies off that list....I was totally blown away last night by that show.
Now I'm just increasing my library of stuff from the Pixies...and Frank Black, Kim Deal, etc.
Thanks for the warm welcome...I'm happy to be here! |

I was at this show too. I suspected it might be the first time they played Bam Thwok, but as I wasn't paying attention either, I wasn't sure. It was a damn good show, other than a few assholes who kept starting a stupid mosh pit and trying to pull me and my friend Annie into it. She's small, so I had to protect her the entire time. It was also her first time seeing the Pixies. My third. Awesome show, really. I really liked Something Against You, and Blown Away blew my mind.

I´m so jealous of you... I can´t stand the fact that I´ve seen them in June and probably it has been the only time. It seems so long ago now that I miss them already!

wooooooooo hooooo they played Bam Thwok, YES!! they are starting to mix it up.....
blown away has been my favorite song so far to hear live, it sounds absolutely divine....

where do you come up with this idea??? why in the world would your "average rock audience" not be into Trompe or Bossanova....
the bottom line with the band not playing these IMHO is that after doolittle there was lots of tension with the band, seems like charles had control issues creating the latter two albums, so that they dont play much of that stuff cuz it has some "negative" energy or some shit....
makes me sad, those albums fucking rock, i love the early stuff too, but the Pixies would be missing something without TLM and Bossanova as part of their catalogue... |

I already said it, but I'll say it again - I was expecting Wave or Mind to follow In Heaven, like they normally seem to do, but seguing into "Blown Away" was a total surprise, and it sounded awesome.
I had thought DiscLive was supposed to be at this show, and looked around for them, but now I know why I couldn't find them. Bummer.
Yeah, there seemed to be some weird skinhead party that broke out during "Isla" or "Broken Face" or something; but it went away after. I have fond memories about back when Frank would actually stop playing and make people quit moshing... |

i'm not sure what happened to lead up to it, but some girl appeared to pass out on the steps next to me around "tame"/"hey", creating a tense moment for all in the area, but she came to after a minute or so. |

Nope, they were moshing the whole time. Even during Where Is My Mind? Ridiculous, I was right next to them, and they kept pulling me into it.
