just been watching the documentary about the wedding present on tv just now... quite interesting, i actually shunned the singer a couple of years ago, was at a cinerama gig, was there to see the support act (tahiti 80 i think), and the guy at the merchandise stand was trying to flog me a cd or t-shirt, then he said "the guy himself will even sign it" and pointed at *the* guy, but at the time i had no idea who the wedding present were or who cinerama were, i feel bad now. seemed like a nice bloke.

Ahh The Weddoes..takes me back. David Gedge is your man- always sang embittered songs about being dumped & humiliated by a bird eg 'what did your last servant die of?', 'i'm not always so stupid' & 'what have i said now?' classic late 80s, early 90s & well worth a listen even though the songs sound the same.
Essential albums:- George Best, Tommy, Bizarro (maybe Seamonsters) |

they have reformed, line up to be confirmed, wedding present owned my life between 87-92, then they cut their hair and I stopped loving them.

I got George Best+ a while back, but it never made much impression on me - it always came across like a punkier Smiths for some reason. I've liked Gedge's side projects though - Cinerama are pretty cool, and I enjoyed the Ukrainians' Smiths covers album.
So, I finally got my X-Wing |

I have bagged a free ticket for tonight's gig in Manchester. Just downloaded about ten songs to familarise myself with them. I am impressed, looking forward to it.

but it isnt the wedding present though. It's the clash with the cut the crap line up minus Paul Simonon, it live at max's kansas city VU line up minus Sterling Morrison. The classic weddoes line up for me was either George Best line up or Bizarro line up, anything else is just cinerama with a different name.

They weren't that great anyway. They sound better on record to me. Maybe they just chose the wrong songs. Not bad, but not great.

isn't that disappointing? when a band is great on record and can't produce live. i heard the cars were like that. i was sorely disappointed by supergrass when i saw them, charlatans UK the second time too.
the opposite is true also, i saw sponge open for someone, ended up buying their album and was kinda upset, i think the latter is better though 'cause you can blame it on (over)production. being great live is mandatory, everybody has off-nights, but i think the consistently awful live bands fade away rather quick.

I think perhaps it was just as much to do with the songs they chose. Listening to the ones I have again, it seems to me they chose more boring songs to play
