They're both newer bands Rita, they get played on woxy pretty regularly.

And as for what's great about The '89 Cubs, never question the host, Denis.

i've been in bands with some pretty terrible names over the years

when i was in jr. high i was in a band that was first named psychlone and then became twisted fate (our one and only gig it was mistyped as twisted fat)

then in high school i was in a band called specimens performing avant-garde music (S.P.A.M.). then our bass player quit and we became a trio known as Hand Full of Noodles (there was actually a good story behind it). i was in a one-off primus cover band called Tunmunga Harmony, which means fugitive grandmother in Korean. my last high school band had a fucking great name though, the Fun Ghouls. say it aloud. but we weren't allowed to play my high school with that name, so someone called us the Superdudes and that stuck.

my solo project for years was called Gringo Starr. i liked it, no one else ever did.

in college i was in one band, The School Band as we were known. this name split people as to whether it was good or not.

my solo project now is called The Library. i don't know if i like that or not anymore. maybe i'll just use my name

i suck at naming bands/being in bands with good names

Twisted Fat is great name, and kicks the crap out of Twisted Fate (then again, Twisted Fat was an ass in high school, and beat up most of the other band names).

I really like the name the Library. You could go on tour with the Books!

I always thought The No-Marks would be a good name for a band, if you're looking. You're welcome to it, but expect a credit and maybe a picture on the album sleeve.

Broken Face you are wrong. These names are fantastic! Except maybe The School Band which is a bit plain and Superdudes which is plain awful.

My current favourite band name is Alabama Thunderpussy.

And Gringo Starr is a genius name.

Supporting The Wedding Present last night was a dutch band called Persil. I am not sure about people outside of the UK, but to us Brits, that's a brand of washing detergent, making it possibly the worst band name I have heard in a long time.

my favourite is And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.

"persil" is French for parsley FYI. That doesn't make it a better band name. Was it the same band who did a great cover of Isla de Encanta on that crazy Pixies tribute album?
We did some kind of gig last week and there was a band during the night called Sinequanone, which also happens to be a (crappy) brand of clothes. That's about the lamest band name I've heard. Plus they were doing RHCP covers.

It was once on the Debaser fansite (http://dag.wieers.com/debaser/), but I'm not sure they still have the mp3 files. It was a tribute called "Death To The Pixies - We're Better", the one which had the insane dutch cover of Where Is My Mind. Seems I can't access the site from work but you might want to try it yourself.

Sinequanone is pretty bad, but I still believe Haiku D'Etat must be the worst band name ever.

The best name has to be, obviously, Jedi Rollers.

http://dag.wieers.com/debaser/albums/deathto3.php No MP3s there :(

Try to pronounce this one:
Tręs Tristes Tigres, even for a portuguese speaker is difficult!
And it's a funny name too, 3 sad tigers

Speedy, I've listened to those UNPRONOUNCABLE "Chk Chk Chk", and I liked them, they are better to listen than to try to say their name...it makes me remember something.

I bought their album "Louden Up Now", but I returned it. I didn't like it. Repeating "Like I give a fuck" over and over didn't really do it for me. I like the "Me and Guliani" EP though.
