I am sorry but if you find that film hilarious then you are a geeky, nerdy goofball who will laugh at anything.

Quite amusing in parts but so far from hilarious. Not once did I REALLY laugh.

Oh well each geeky nerdy goofball to their own.

Does anyone remember a really trashy straight to video end of the world shocker called Kingdom of the Spiders starring the king of the tight top William Shatner, or did i dream it?

Holy Crappy Moley; I've never heard of it, but I want to find out!

And your post reminded me of something else I need to post. I'll go see to that . . .

anyone ever seen Bad Boy Bubby (I think it was called) one of the most jaw dropping films I have ever seen, truely yurk, it was great.

My housemate bought "The reanimator" on DVD, I think we'll be watching that tonight, tre's on a Lovecraft vibe at the moment

Realmeanmotorscutor, don't know if SOTD is on DVD in the US yet. I know it is still in theatres in Minnesota. I think it has only been in theatres here for a few weeks.

28 days was cool too.

I saw Shaun last night in theaters. I must say, I came in expecting a really stupid film, but was pleasantly surprised by several clever and funny scenes. It also worked well as a zombie movie.

Then, if you haven't already, you need to see DAGON. It's a recent Lovecraft adapatation from the same director who made RE-ANIMATOR.

DAGON is a really fun fast-paced movie, with a great strange ending. Also it has one of the ghastliest gore scenes I've witnessed in a recent movie. I won't spoil it, but I winced and I hardly EVER wince at anything in movies anymore.

I was chatting to two girls at work today and they said they watched Shaun Of The Dead over the weekend. They hated it. I loved them (even though I don't actually hate it, I just don't think it's anywhere near as funny as you are all saying)

I went movie shopping today and actually found Shaun of the Dead. I didn't think it was popular enough to have a bootleg here.

So, I'll watch it tonight and be back with my thoughts, assuming of course that I'm not suspended for calling Ebb bad names. I can just see that happening; why has no one banned him yet?

Ok, just watched it. I liked it a lot, but I don't see how some people think it works well as a comedy and a zombie movie. There were a couple of part in the beginning when I could see how that could have been possible, but it was never a solid zombie movie. I think to be a good zombie movie, the film has to take itself seriously, even if it ends up being funny. Still, it was a great little spoof and I enjoyed it throughout. Goodnight.

I thought it did take itself fairly seriously, I mean he shot his mum in the head (I thought that was brilliant, I liked the way the frame shifted there) and David flipping his nut (I have a huge crush on Dylan Moran, so this problably adds to my bias with this film) I thought it was less of a comedy than a zombie movie, at the start it was mostly funny "can I get any of you cunts, a drink" and the pissed zombie girl and fat zombie men were funny, but as the film goes on it gts more serious, especially when they get to the winchester (poor eddie) Maybe my zombie bias has blinkered me a little though...

Have you sen Brain Dead? now thats what I call zombie/comedy!

Tre, I'm with you on all counts (Romero flicks, Brain Dead), it's almost creepy :)

Did you watch "Re-Animator" then? What did you think? I saw it when it came out and thought it was good fun. I second the "Dagon" recommendation too, I saw this one recently and was pleasantly surprised.

There's also a movie named "Necronomicon", it's a three-parter (with 3 different directors) if I remember well. Christophe Gans did one... but the best part were the link scenes with Jeffrey Combs made up to look like HPL. Although I must say the Brian Yuzna sketch actually managed to freak me out for some reason.

As for Fulci films, the one that really made an impression on me at the time was "L'Aldila" ("The Beyond" for you English types). Don't know what I would think of it if I saw it now though. When I saw "Day of the Dead" again a couple of years ago, I was appalled that I once enjoyed it. Crap acting! Hideous filming! Basic plot!

About "Day of the Dead"... There's that scene where one guy is litterally ripped in two by the zombies, and they start grabbing his spilled guts while he howls... They made the entrails with lots of different bits and bobs they got from butchers. Look at it closely if you have it (I don't, but I have that scene in a Clive Barker hosted documentary that I taped aeons ago!): I'd swear one of the living dead takes a whole chicken carcass out of that guy's thorax. Please tell me I'm not completely nuts. Thank you.

I have seen Brain Dead, though I think it's called The Dead Alive here in the states. That's a hilarious movie; the first time I saw it my dad and I almost couldn't control our bladders.

Shaun of the Dead did get more serious, though mostly sad. I thought the ending, with the tv montage, was brilliant and gave the movie a more serious tone; a firmer grounding in reality, if you will.

I think it does happen in both, I saw day of the dead a long, long time ago and wasn't impressed so my memory is a touch fuzzy, Romero likes the people in two gut spilling action (hence the Davs being ripped in two and having his guts spilled action in Shaun of The Dead)

Bain Dead is sheer GENIUS I may watch it again tonight and follow it up with Bad Taste, I saw it first when I was really young (my dad tried to protect me from zombie movie horror at first when I was a little girl, one night I came downstairs and he was watching evil dead, I climbed onto the sofa and he kept trying to block the view from me, but I climbed over him and went eeewww, he gave up on me after that) and was most delighted by the lawnmower scene, and the priest "I kick arse for the lord" lovely. ha ha I love that film.

I did watch the reanimator and loved it, absolutely loved it, dirty headless corpsey perv action, I've not heard of the necromonicon (film) but I've read a whole pile of lovecraft books (I discovered a sci fi bookshop in Sheffield and picked up a sexy copy of the transition of lovecraft the other day, marvelous cover, I'll do a search for it in a minute) but I'll keep an eye out for both those movies, I adore Coombs, he's almost as cool as Bruce Campbell in tre's eyes.

I bought and watched Eraserhead yesterday, that was one of the strangest films I've seen, I really enjoyed it though. AAaah too many films too little time!!!

And Mikey, have I ever mentioned that you aren't too big to go over my knee hmmm?

Definitely "Day of the Dead", it's in the underground military compound, the army brute being ripped apart. Although it might happen in "Dawn of the Dead" too, I have very hazy memories of that one.

Thats actually a fairly common misnomer, you almost never see a zombie going for brain, usually muscly/fatty parts of the body, arms and legs or straight for the entrails

man o man, how did i miss this topic?!?!?!?!

Brain Dead is an absolutely brilliant movie - watched it in the weekend for the first time in about a decade and i was almost pissing my pants the entire time - it is truly a classic - everyone should watch it.
I had forgotten how good it was and was suprised how much better it was than Evil Dead, which i absolutely love as well.
I am ashamed to say that i never took nearly as much attention to the film even tho Mr Jackson is a fellow kiwi - but i think i am mature enough to fully appreciate his early movies now....can't wait to rediscover them all over again.

And, Bad Boy Bubby is my wife's favourite move Tre.
she made me watch it with her like a week after we started going out, and it certainly made me realise how absolutely sick she is....
one of the most disturbing films i have ever seen, with the cat scene is the most disturbing thing i have ever seen in a film by far.

You thought the cat was more disturbing than the bubby and his mum in bed scene? actually the whole film is a distrbance, it'd be hard for me to pick, If bubby ever toured though I'd go see him, heh heh heh. I've also decided your wife is an absolute dude (as in very cool, I'm not suggesting she's a bloke), I really struggle to find anyone who has ever seen bad boy bubby, people tend to look at me funny when I try to describe it to them too, funny that.

Peter Jackson has already hit God-like status in my world though, a lot of people only think of him as that guy who did 'lord of the rings' and forget the early films. I'm struggling to find 'Meet the Feebles' on DVD at the moment, I know it exists damn it. After I bought 'Bad Taste' I think I watched it every day for near on a month and it *never* got stale, s-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-gh

If this gets derailed into a "Peter Jackson appreciation" thread, I'm there.

I went to see "Bad Taste" when it came out back in '87. That makes me special I think.

I must confess I haven't seen "Meet The Feebles", though. It must be the only PJ movie I haven't seen, along with "Forgotten Silver", which is apparently too Kiwi-oriented to have been released anywhere.

And I love LOTR!
