In honour of Benji's CD Swap-o-rama, and because I didn't get in on it in time, I figured I'd start my own. That is, we each take turns burning a mix CD of our favourite stuff (as in Benji's thread, no FB/Pixies/Breeders/Amps/Martinis) and sending it out to the other people on the list. The list is limited to the first 10 to sign up - and all 10 must agree to send out their 10 discs no matter what. If people from across the pond really want to participate, I'm OK with it if others are.
One difference is that instead of all of us sending at once and receiving 10 within the space of a few days, we will randomly choose an order and send out CDs every two weeks. That way, once we get started, you'll get a new mix in your mailbox every two weeks and have some time to digest.
So, to recap/clarify, as was requested: Once we have ten people in, I will put the names in a hat and draw out the order in which the mix CDs are sent. So, say I draw myself first, that means that I will be the first person to mail out a mix CD to every other person on the list.
Then, two weeks later, the next person will send theirs out, and then the next.
The CDs should be of your favourite tracks from your favourite bands, not including FB/Pixies/Breeders/other related bands. They should have as much musical goodness as you can squeeze onto them, from as many or as few artists as you like. They should come with a tracklist and be labelled with your name on them (Floop Presents: The Orange Years). Nothing fancy, sharpe will do fine.
We will start the mailouts Oct 1, and mail a new CD on the 1st and 15th of every month. Again, to EVERY PERSON on the list until we've gone through the list. I'd say keep the tracklists secret until it arrives in the mailbox, that way it's exciting to get the next disc.
That's all...
Shipping Order 1) PsychicTwin (Mailout: Oct 1) 2) Thomas (Oct 7) 3) King Philbert (Oct 14) 4) Cult of Frank (Oct 21) 5) Crispy Water (Nov 1) 6) King of Siam (Nov 7) 7) Ramona (Nov 14) 8) Obfuscate By Will (Nov 21) 9) Floop (Dec 1) 10) Broken Face (Dec 7) 11) Apl4Eris (Dec 14)

You bet, should be fun.
Favorites: 1) PsychicTwin 1. Hater - "Down Undershoe" (this sounds very much like Rodan, Shellac, Shipping News, Dianogah, or June of 44) 2. Butthole Surfers - "Some Dispute Over T-Shirt Sales" (HM) Spoon - "This Book is a Movie" (I like this instrumental much better than the other Spoon track with vocals - reminds me a lot of Tortoise, Dianogah, Papa M (Dave Pajo), Seluah, and Tarantel)
2) Thomas 1. Joy Division - "Exercise One" 2. Suicidal Tendencies - "Possessed"
3) kingphilbert 1. Eric Bachmann - "A Diamond is the Devil's Eye" (Really beautiful song, don't like his singing voice, but I like this) 2. The Misfits - "Some Kind of Hate"
4) Cult of Frank 1. Asterid - "Pinstripe Gin" (love the beginning keyboard sound. Vocals remind me of something it's driving me nuts trying to place) 2. No Birds - "Heavy Metal Will Never Die" (Reminds me of Rachel's Band)
5) Crispy Water 1. Evergreen - "Klark Kent" (of course! ;)) 2. Stellakis Perpiniadhis - "Marjorie, On the Sly" (Love this)
6) King of Siam 1. My Morning Jacket - "One Big Holiday" 2. Elliot Smith - "Waltz #2 (XO)"
7) Ramona 1. Liz Phair - "Stratford-On-Guy" (A wonderful song. It felt autobiographical on many occasions.) 2. The Smiths - "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" (Oh what memories! This song really gets to me, and makes me really miss my old college friend.)
8) Obfuscate by Will 1. Devo - "Auto Modown" 2. Iggy and the Stooges - "Gimmie Some Skin"
9) floop 1. Dios - "Everyday" 2. Calexico - "Minas De Cobre"
10) Broken Face 1. Frank Zappa - "St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast" 2. The Fire Theft - "Rubber Bands"
Not Favorites: 1) PsychicTwin 1. Jefferson Airplane - "Lather" 2. Gist -"Observationalist"

OK, so everybody send me an email with your full mailing address and then I'll compile it into one big list and mail it back to everyone:

Of course, there's no 'the' and dlot is really 'dot' and come is really com, but these spam bots are getting smart.

This might take longer but how about using my ring idea. I'll try to explain it with just four people and you'll get the idea for 10 people.
1) Cult of Frank 2) Broken Face 3) ObfuscateByWill 4) Apl4eris
COF mails a mix to BF. BF mails a mix to OBW. OBW mails a mix to Apl4. Apl4 mails a mix to COF. Hence a ring. When a persons mix gets to the next location you burn a copy of it for yourself and send off the original to the next person until you have 9 cd mixes. In the above example COF's origianl will end up with Apl4.
Also if you look at it you will always send a cd to the same person in the ring and you will recieve a cd from the same person in the ring.
If someone works out the location legistics for each person involved we might be able to figure out the best way to set the ring.

Alright, Ramona is the last. This way everyone has to send out 10 mixes and gets 10 mixes. Works for me.
As far as the ring goes, not a bad idea, but for myself, I'd rather make one trip to the post office then 10. Plus, this way the people at the end all get tracklists with their CDs, etc. So no ring, but it's a good idea even if it'd be a little slow.
So, here's the order avec le date, courtesty a random number generator:
1) PsychicTwin (Mailout: Oct 1) 2) Thomas (Oct 7) 3) Apl4Eris (Oct 14) 4) Cult of Frank (Oct 21) 5) Crispy Water (Nov 1) 6) King of Siam (Nov 7) 7) Ramona (Nov 14) 8) Obfuscate By Will (Nov 21) 9) Floop (Dec 1) 10) Broken Face (Dec 7) 11) King Philbert (Dec 14)
We should get that last CD right around Christmas time/the end of the year. So start getting your tracks together, and if you haven't yet, please mail me your street address so that I can get a list out to everyone and we can get the ball rolling.

Oct. 1st it is
This is exciting...
I need to start thinking about the proper combination of songs to give you all an idea of the convoluted, beautiful little musical realm that is food for my soul and brain
Can't wait to hear everyone's mixes. btw, i'm moving into a new place after Oct. 29th, so i sent Dean both my current address and the subsequent one. |

Nah, mail it out on the dates listed. This gives me time to get everyone's addresses, Alex time to put together his mix and so on. Receive dates will depend on how close you are to the person in question. I imagine Crispy and I will be the last to get most of these CDs but the first to get each others' since there's a border involved.

Woo! Thanks for all the votes of confidence! I feel so special.
Dean, if you want to send me the addresses, I could format some labels for people. But that would mean they would have to have WORD or some such thing. I don't know if that would be helpful or not. You can think about it.
PS. I think my CD is going to be called "An Ovary Wails". I'm very excited about it.

Not really, we just wouldn't have sent to everyone. Anyway, that doesn't explain why people didn't join the first one.

I just wasn't paying attention to General Chat and when I saw the first one it was already closed.
So I am position 11, Dec 14. I get to send you all yours right after my birthday and recieve all yours leading up to it. Excellent. Since I have a lot of time I really need to put togehter something real good for you for an xmas gift.
