i've just re-listened to syd barrett songs, and i can't help but feel there are some similiarities to frank's TOTY-period. especially songs like "baby lemonade" would fit perfectly on this record. the structure, the chord changes, the obscure but poignant lyrics, the beat and guitar strumming...yeah, "baby lemonade" would merge fine with "abstract plain". or take "octopus" and "gigolo aunt" - the more i think about it, i would love to hear frank perform some syd songs...
on the other hand, i'm glad that frank didn't turn crazy like good old syd..

i think Frank covering a Syd song would be way cool. i suppose there are some similarities there, but i think their sensibilities are way different. if anything, i think Franks Pixies songs are more similar, in terms of stream of consciousness lyrics and odd vocal melodies. a la later Brian Wilson stuff.
i bet Frank is a fan of Syd

I think it would be cool if Frank would smear raw eggs in his hair like Syd. But he'd have to grow hair for this to be effective.

Nah, he could do it on his bald head; feeling that might put him in the mood to do Syd songs.

Syd Barrett smeared raw eggs in his hair? Never ever heard about that. Care to elaborate?

Just a story I heard a long time ago-- I can't even remember where or when. Something about someone who found Syd's house and knocked on his door. Syd answered the door with something smeared in his hair. |

Thanks for this topic... I am dusting off my old Syd stuff after 10+ years.
Last I heard... he was living with his mum and helped in the garden. Yes Baby Lemonaid would be wonderful. I also really like Rats and from if PF days See Emily Play. |

ah, here comes Syd now...
He'd have about as good a time with the eggs as Frank. |

Funny thing is, Syd's music is odd because he was losing his mind; Frank's perfectly insane ;) |
