ok.
no, not a complete suprise in the way you're thinking.
it'll be a suprise in the fact that you won't know the tracklisting before the cd arrives in your mailbox.
include a tracklisting with the cd you send out, but just don't post it here beforehand.
we decided to do it like that so people couldn't go and download some tracks before recieving their cd - hence ruining the suprise.
does that make sense?

and i think i'm sorted now, i'm unemployed at the mo, so if i can have those addresses of the people i'm sending to, i can get down the post office this week when i've got all this free time!

ok - i'll change the list tomorrow which should hoefully be the complete and final one.
then tomorrow night i'll send out all the addresses that i have - still waiting for a couple, and then we can go from there.
i've got all mine burned, and once we've confirmed everything, i'll send mine out hopefully friday or saturday.
to give an example of postage costs - i sent a cd from london to amsterdam yesterday and it costed me £0.57
so hopefully we can keep this reasonably cheap.
glad it all seems to be working out well.
cannae wait to hear all the cd's.

Kinda anxious. Normally, when I make mixes for folks they are american. I can throw a bunch of "european" stuff on there are skate by w/o any problems.

Same for me. So, I've made my choice based in three rules (No, i'm not a big Isaac Asimov fan), in this order:
- Be honest with myself, putting in some of the most important artists in my life, even when they aren't "cooler" musicians.
- Try to do not choose well known songs. Or at least, songs you haven't heard before or payed enough attention.
- Try to adjust it to your musical tastes.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll crucify me for my compilation.

Whoopie! First one sent (Homer it's on it's way to you) complete with my bodged together cd liners. Costing 42p for UK postage (slimline jewelcase in padded envelope) which ain't half bad.
I'd like to apologise in advance to everyone who will be receiving them from me - I've just stuck the tracks that I'm currently madly in love with and it's a mix that I listen to while walking to work. Wakes me up, makes me smile, shake my ass (and occasionally laugh out loud) and revs me up for each day of potential hell. |

Very cool that you guys got this going, I was not expecting it to happen. Good work!
I almost wish I'd joined now. Maybe I'll try to start another one.
One thing... are you all creating mixes and sending at once or are you taking turns sending? I think I'd do it so that every two weeks someone is sending one out. That way it gives adequate time to absorb each CD. That's if it was me. I was also thinking of doing a North America-only one, but then I might miss some good stuff from the other side of the pond.

No, thats not how we organised it. everyone sends out all at the same time.
the drip fed way would have been probably better, but i was concious of keeping people interested in it long enough so that everyone kept to their end of the bargain - the longer it's drawn out, the less likely everyones going to stay involved i thought.
but yes, it will be music overlead getting a whole bunch of cd's all within such a short amount of time, but nothing all us musical masters can't cope with.
