ok poll time: how many of you already own/have CDs by jonny polonsky, the postal service and/or the jayhawks?

This rule takes out 50% of my current records. The other 50% are spanish bands/singers. So I have a problem. But don't worry, I'll find a way

brian - for me...none.
whore - thats fine.....remember to include anything you want. earlier this year when i went to a festival with a bunch of japanese peops, one gave us all this collection of japanese cd's and they're fabulous...the best song from the bunch is one called "homo" with the main lyric of 'fuck my ass' sung over and over again. very very amusing. pity, but it's not on my comp.

Can I join this to? I have lots of mix CDs, My problem is that they allways have a little FB or Pixies. You know how it is, it´s hard to listen a whole CD without them around! But I´ll find a way to make one without Frank!

goodie - rita, you're in too. i'll add you to the list tomorrow.
do people want to scrap the FB/pixies etc rule - i personally see including them as a little redundant since we probly have heard them all anyways, but it all depends....

Right! I´ll be aware to know how to do it! And, of course I would´t mind if there was some FB/pixies rare stuff in it! but I understand it could be more difficult to find something that we never heard.

i'm personally all for the no-fb/pixies rule because it really made me find good stuff that i thought no one else would know, or at least not know as well. if every mix has the BBC version of "Dead" on it, it somehow stops being about hearing new music and starts being about hearing the songs we all know and love (which we most likely own)

There should definitely be no Pixies/Catholics/Breeders/Amps/Martinis in my opinion. So are we gonna have a cut-off point? I don't want to have to sned to loads of people, could get expensive. If we are gonna leave it open for a while, to give more people a chance to join then we should only send to a few people each, rather than everyone. That could be decided by way of a draw.

ok - so no pixies/fb etc.
and you have a very good point there homer - if this does get too big, it becomes inpractical with regards to postage costs. i feel maybe we should close it off right now, with VoVat the last member and then go from there. as i said, if individuals don't want to send out cd's to every person speak up and we'll go from there.... i have burned 8 cd's and thats all i am doing, so i'm restricted to that - i think we now have ten people, so i guess i just have pick a name out of the hat of whom not to send too.
and of course, some people on the list may not actually end up making their mix cd and pull out. i say just make as many as you want and we can work out some random way of chosing recipients from there.
thoughts?

I don't want Pixies related stuff in it (except rare covers) 'cause we all know it so well. As my CD collection is full of well known bands, I'll try to make a non-singles compilation. 5 CD's will be my number.
P.S.: Glad to see you in, Rita!!! I was considering to send you a personal e-mail to report you about this thread. But then I saw your post in another topic and thought: She doesn't want to join us for some reason. Forget it.

ok, so we can choose who we send to? should we do some sort of system so i don't recieve 9 CD s and VoVat only receives 2 just because of the "randomness"?

The system would be set up so you received the same number cd’s that you sent. Hardly seems fair that someone only able/willing to send 4 cd’s gets 9.
Now, I have no idea what that system will be, but it’s kinda irrelevant until we know exactly how many cd’s everyone’s willing to send out. I ended up burning 10 of mine, so I can do everyone.
So you’re willing to do all 9 brian?. What about the rest of you?

I don´t know exactly but maybe only two, it´s really expensive to send CDs from Portugal to out of Europe, it´s about €3 only for the mail and packaging. But I´ll see what I can do...

I will probably do 5. I think we should do this every few months or so. That way we can send on new stuff that we have discovered. That would be a great way of spreading the word on new bands, as well as undiscovered older ones. This one can be a mix of all sorts.
So are we not allowed to put on songs that were singles? With some of my albums, I have no idea which songs were singles, and with others I am pretty confident that nobody will have heard the singles anyway, 'cos the band is so unkown. Are they allowed?

Singles are fine if it's unknown stuff. 5 CD's for me. Almost burned.

yeah - singles are fine....
once everyone has told me how many they're gunna burn, i'll add that to the list and then we can work out a system of determining who sends to who.
i've got Broken Face's and Obfuscatebywill's address. waiting for the rest.

i dunno SR. we had closed it off so it remained managable. i think if anyone drops out we can certainly include you, and i personally can swap with you cause i burned an extra copy.
i think the chances of someone coping out are fairly high, so you'll probly be in..
sound fair?

Don't cut it too close, though.
Sometimes my PC will refuse to burn a disc if it's too near 80 mins. The closest I've gotten is 79:42

OK, haven't been keeping up with this... so i can make a compilation for everyone in the uk, not sure i can afford to send any overseas... (i'm unemployed at mo!)
was thinking, is everyone just doing one mix cd and then making copies of it for everyone or are people tailor making them for people? would it be a good idea for people to post what kind of music they're into (just a listing of some fave bands excluding pixies related stuff) so people making cd's for them can see what to include and what not to? or is it a bit late for that? i'd like to tailor make mine for people.
And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else, and I'm lonesome when you're around, and I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself, and I miss you when you're around. |

Once you all have made your cds and swapped them you could post the tracklistings of your compilations in this thread? I'm extremely curious to see what ends up on your compilations.

The tracklisting I just made is pretty good, I think.
Problem is ...I think there are a couple of songs on it that most of us will be familiar with.
Um, is that a problem?
