no doubt you all know the band franz ferdinand
well, i bought the cd ("frans ferdinand") and ive been listening to it for alot....and i've decided they are like the pixies...not just in instrumation and sound (not to obvious) but in image aswell...
im not going to add why i think they are similar, i'll wait for your suggestions first and see if i think the same.....

Well. The Pixies aren't the first band I thought of when I first heard Franz Ferdinand. Or the second, actually. I actually thought they were 'the Fall' on hearing Darts of Pleasure. |

i thought the Strokes first time I heard Take Me Out (thus by connection Television and Richard Hell), but more than anything they rip off Talking Heads.
In a good way, I might add.

i don't see any similarities really, franz ferdinand are quite dull in my opinion.

When I want to listen to Gang of Four, I'll put on "Entertainment" instead of Franz Ferdinand.

They are quite flash in the pan I admit, and I very much doubt they'll be revered in a few years (unless their next releases astound us), but I enjoy them. I'd rather them on the radio than the usual sludge.
I'm not too keen on the way they've milked their album for singles, though.

They remind me of the Cure. (I may be alone on that one, though.)
The singer sounds exactly like someone else. 80's band. I can't remember who!

I disagree with the image thing - physically anyway. The whole thing that impounded the mystery of the pixies for me years ago, when information and photos on your favourite band was harder to get than it is now, is how normal all the pixies looked! No rock band paraphernalia, no weird clothes, hairdos etc... In contrast to their music which was so extraordinary.. FF try doing that whole retro thing, using a manufactured image as part of their act... so I disagree with the image comparison.

they remind me of a lot of early 80's new wave groups, not the pixies.

i got the franz ferdinand cd and gave it a chance for about 2 weeks. it hasn't been in my cd player since then.
i don't think they suck or anything, but for me they're unnotable and overrated.
i actually think they sound kind of like Blur

Not the Pixies. Saw them in Barcelona and they look like the Dandy Warhols. Physically.

They just sound like Orange Juice (Edwyn Collins' old band) to me. 'Take Me Out''s quite good fun though....

I think franz ferdinand are great - but some of their B sides (love and destroy, shopping for blood and dont start) are even better than their album tracks. In my humble opinion of course!

Franz Ferdinand appears to me as a nice mix of the Strokes and Interpol, but I fail to see any connection with the Pixies...

Franz Ferdinand remind me of early Simple Minds. Especially the way that the guitarist could be Charlie Burchill's kid, the way he plays his guitar and stomps around on stage... |

I don't hear any similarities between FF and the Pixies. There's something about FF that I don't like, but I can't work out what it is exactly. They have all the right ingredients, but their music just doesn't work for me. They are the music equivalent of the itch that you can't scratch.
Maybe it's the vocal delivery.

Yeah, Barry, I love Shopping For Blood. How did that not get on the album!? I guess they needed one solid song to carry the singles.

I like Franz Ferdinand (and will like them more if I don't have to hear them on the radio for a couple of months), but they don't sound like anything close to the Pixies in my opinion. |

I'd have to agree with that. Maybe not rip off, but if the TH rocked a little harder...

Yeah it's just a little of the guitar work that reminds me of the Pixies, nothing else. In no way do they remind me of Interpol, The Strokes or The Dandy Warhols though.
And yeah, I am bored of them now. Can't wait for Interpol's new album though.

odd, as i'd say they sound like strokes and interpol, really can't see any pixies relation, apart from the guitar thing, which basically most 'indie-rock' bands have done ever since the 90's...

not much of an FF fan, especially when i heard their single and the use of the word matinee (sorry if i spell wrong). think i count it at the end of every sentence in the chorus. genius boys! the press and celebs(?) over here just couldnt get enough of them. to me its just another band Radio 1 adopts then the rest of the country follows in over hypin. but i cant blame them for ridin the wave. more power to them. image: pixies? me thinks more of a Scottish Hives. but hey, my opinion is just that, sorry if i offended any Franz fans. For fucks sake...i like the Beatles! shoot me down with your quotes! |

they are quite overrated, though not half-bad. their sound is very Talking Heads-ish I could see the Pixies similarity, but it is very fleeting |

Franz Ferdinand are a decent band. Tell her Tonight sounds like an evil hybrid of Low era Bowie and Electric Six!

I like the F Ferdinand album, I think that it's just a good album, and certainly better than than most of the rock albums that comes out since two or three years, but do not think they're like the Pixies!
The Pixies don't have any image, they just don't care of these things! Look at Kim or Frank on the last tour!
Franz are very fashionable, they look like a mix between 60's bands like the Beatles or the Zombies (for the haircut and the way they play on stage) and 80's bands like Talking Heads. |

I totally agree Cassandra. I like FF and I´ve listen a lot their album this summer but I wouldn´t compare them to the Pixies. Not in any way! For me the Pixies are so unique that I can´t choose a band that could have something in common with them. They really don´t care with image, because there are some that pretend they don´t care...and their attitude on stage it´s another thing that it´s different from the others... I guess that´s why we like them so much!!!
