I was just listening to some of the 243 mp3s by the pixies/frank black and just noticed some strings on "Monkey Gone to Heaven."
Are these real instruments? (violin, viola, cello) or are they keyboards? I also wonder what other songs have real strings.
That would be super neat if someone arranged the Pixies on strings, piano, etc. Jazz it up with some major sevenths and maybe a 13th. You know, that NPR-worthy sh*t. You figure there would be a hint of classical maturity if the Pixies stayed with it for another 5 years.

They're real strings; credited on the Doolittle sleevenotes. Two violins and two cellos. |

One of the violin players, Karen Karlsrud, played on one of Ricki Martin's albums. I only know that because I have no life. There. I said it. |

Uh-oh... I didn't even know there were strings on Monkey Gone To Heaven. Or maybe I knew it but didn't remember it. I haven't listened to that song in ages.

Ah. That's very apt of you. I had no idea. What kind of RickY fan am I?!!!! Well, he can't be that bad if he shared a violin player with the Pixies. Right? Wrong. |
