I was in H&M at the weekend shopping for 1920's style clothes for my trip on the steam train and a song came on that I've heard a few times but I have no idea what it is or who it's by..
I was in two minds whether or not to post this on here because chances are it's going to be a famous song by a seminal artist and some sassy soul will mock me for it.
I don't care.
Mock away, just what is this song? I don't remember much of the lyrics, it's a man singing about (what sounds like) some sort of walk in the after life or maybe a dream, he's walking along and it's all wierd, and there's a scary demon and he asks god to help him and then remembers he doesn't believe and carries on... I think as I walk along/alone (?) is part of the "chorus" the guys talky/singing for the best part of it, I thought it was lou reed and then for some reason I thought it was the flaming lips, but it sounds a lot like U2's "Where the streets have no name" or I think it does because I keep singing U2 which is not cool, not cool at all...
So can anyone help me? Keep your mockery to a minimum please people, I'm delicate today.
I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

hmm...the lyrical content sounds like something out of a Johnny Cash song.
but as far as I know, he doesn't have anything that sounds remotely like "Where the streets have no name"
so I basically haven't gotten you anywhere! sorry Tre |

no it's cool, it might not actually sound like U2, It might just be that I am a little off in the head at the moment, I know the speaky voice I didn't think sounded too much like Johnny Cash, and the singy voice had a wayney flamy sound to it, but I might be off there too, see how hard this is, listening to damned songs in stored that get stupid U2 stuck in my head damnit.

Oh god, I liked this song when I heard it, I don't think it's U2, I hope in fact it isn't because bono is now in fact bonkers in the nut

It may be lost forever. There are songs I've heard (have in my head)that I have never been able to find...I'm thinking most of them were either one hit wonders or quasi-local groups.
Listening to 'public' radio can cause this...obscurity followed by obscurity followed by not enough time to find artist.
Good luck. I'd like to know the artist as well...
...and the crowd goes MILD... |

I found all sorts of semi-related things, but nothing had "demon" and "walk alon(e/g)" and "believe"...there were some close songs, like Iron Maiden and DMX and even Metallica, but I'm sure you would have mentioned if it was metal or rap!
Give me a smile...and aren't you having fun? |

I think it was a demon, it could have been a devil, it's bugging me to shit, it was definately not metal or rap

This looks somewhat close to what you described:
Rascal Flatts-I'm Moving On
I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons Finally content with a past I regret I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness For once I'm at peace with myself I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long I'm movin' on
I've lived in this place and I know all the faces Each one is different but they're always the same They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it They'll never allow me to change But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong I'm movin' on
(Chorus) I'm movin' on At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone There comes a time in everyone's life When all you can see are the years passing by And I have made up my mind that those days are gone
I sold what I could and I packed what I couldn't Stopped to fill up on my way out of town I've loved I should but lived like I shouldn't I had to lose everything to find out Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on I'm movin' on |

I used to have everything from October, to Wide Awake in America to Rattle and Hum on this ancient recording method known as "tape".
I also had a VERY cool bootleg "tape" (can I say that?) from Dublin's Crow Park during the Unforgettable Fire tour. It was made from the crowd and was amazing. This tape introduced me to Pixies, as I elucidated here - : http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=61&whichpage=7

You can give me your Victrola. I can always use another, so I can have two 78s playing at the same time - now that's cutting edge! |

CHEMICAL BROTHERS AND FLAMING LIPS:
As I walked along, the supposed golden path, I was confronted, by mysterious spectres. they pointed to the graveyard, over and yonder hill.
I paused in cosmic reflection, confused and wondering, of how I came to die.
Hmmm.. I was confused. For if I was dead, how and why, did I die?
But I composed myself. And decided I should face it
But I stood paralyzed, on the supposed golden path, and I was confronted, by powerful demon force.
They said it was the devil, and when he spoke, his words flowed like glowing lava from the mouth of a volcano. And I said: Help me lord! I found myself in some kind of Hell! But I did not believe in him, heaven and hell, world in opposites, kind of reality.
And I gained control of myself, and I decided to press on.
And as I walked along, the supposed golden path, I was trembling with fear, oh the lions and wizards yet to come. I seen in the distance, silver mountains rising high in the clouds and a voice from above did whisper, some shining answer from the moon.
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
(As I walked along) Please forgive me, (As I walked along) I never meant to hurt you. (As I walked along) (As I walked along)
(As I walked along) Please forgive me, (As I walked along) I never meant to hurt you. (As I walked along)
Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.
It's been bloody bugging me for MONTHS
