Considering how attractive the ladies on this forum are and then Kathryn swims a mile a day. I'm sure she has a nice physique.

No waterproof watch. American units of measurement. Hehehe, excuses?

Boys, boys, boys! You are nothing if not charming, all of you.

While you were writing this silliness, I was swimming -- outdoors
under black skies, post-hurricane, in c-c-c-cold water that felt like little knives stabbing my, um, physique. Two laps before I finished, the lifeguard threw me out (I was the only one crazy enough to be in the pool) because lightning hit nearby.

Are you guys serious about a timed swim? I'm game. No excuses accepted; no watches neeed. Not that I'll win or anything.

It was very cold water. There was no moonlight. It was afternoon.
After the hurricane.

Floop, man, you must see plenty of lovely swimmer ladies
out there in Venice, Ca., am I right?

So... when are we doing this all-over-the-world timed swim, gentlemen?

where did you live in So Cal?

i don't have access to a pool, so i'll have to go in the ocean and estimate how far i'm swimming.

my time for the 200 (yard) freestyle in high school is 1 min 48 sec . but i don't think i could do that now

there are lots of nice pools down here too, trust me. Southern California is filled with beautiful Olympic sized pools. i'm just not a member at any of them.

this is inspiration for me to look into it. i've been feeling the urge to swim lately. maybe UCLA has some kind of program for non-school people.

do you really want to swim in a public pool that, in Spanish, literally means "the bathrooms"?

Yes, Darwin, it is a beautiful pool. I loved swimming there at night with the ocean feet away. Best of both worlds. And I love how swimmers remember their favorite pools.

The full name's Los Banos Del Mar, sorta like the waters
by the sea. Not toilets but baths. Don't knock it, Floop. Drive up the PCH and go there, babe!

Awaiting a date for the big swim ....

you must be refering to Velvet Lounge..

yeah, i've seen Frank a zillion times in LA. an unhealthy number of times actually.

as for Ventura post- Pixies disbanding, are you talking about Frank Black shows, with just he and Joey? or Pixies songs? because as far as my Frank studies tell me, i don't remember any solo shows with just he and Joey, post- Pixies.

but there were the pre break-up solo shows at McCabes (Joey special-guesting) which i am blessed to have seen.

whatchu talkin' bout kathryn? http://frankblack.net/gigography/

Kathryn, I'm sure you'll kick my butt. It sounds if you're a dedicated swimmer. Floop your time is impressive, very fast. You must've been very good at waterpolo.

My fastest time at the open water mile was 24min 14s. I've never timed myself in a pool but I should be able to go faster. I'll check my time sometime during the next two weeks. I'm just waiting for warmer weather so I can go to the olympic pool. At the moment I'm still using the 25m indoor pool.

Olympic highlights last night: Thorpe taking gold in the 200 freestyle ahead of Van den Hoogenband and "I'm going to win eight golds" Phelps. Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe taking silver in the 100m bacstroke. Zimbabwe!

Japan and the USA were fighting for gold in the mens team event. The Japanese gymnasts doing incredible routines and execute them perfectly at the end to take gold.

The weather and scenery in Santa Barbara can't be beat.

I saw Frank Black shows in two places in Santa Barbara (a basically solo show at Rocks and two Catholics shows at the Velvet Jones).

renamed place in sb down by the water. john doe played 666 with the band. fun!

it was off of state, i think on lower santa barbara street?
the original coach house was in, like, san juan capistrano and they opened a second one in sb and it closed pretty quickly. if memory serves, which it often does not.

off to the pool!

We have to agree on the size of the pool, should be an Olympic 50m pool (how much is that, in miles?)

I know I will lose, I only swim once a week, as I work on weekends.

Physical activity and competition are outdated?

I guess not, although I'm not really a fan of either one. It sort of seems like the Olympics are a twentieth-century kind of thing, though. Besides, they're kind of nationalistic. Not that nationalism isn't still rampant, but do we really WANT it to be?

Monsieur is oh so right: we must agree on pool size. I say,
let's go for Olympic length.

And what do you do for work, anyway, M., that you work weekends?

Yep, Olympic length it'll have to be. If we're going to do the mile it will be 32 lengths (32 x 50m).

I don't mind who goes the fastest, just so long this will make me get to the pool more often.

Last night I watched the women's gymnastic team competition. Some of the girls look like they're only 7 years old. Tiny. The routines they have to do on the apparatus are frightening. A few ended up on their mugs. In the end Romania won the gold from the USA.

In the pool Phelps won two golds.

The girl gymnasts have to be that -- girls. They were tiny and seemed very young, Wilhelm, because it's all over once puberty
hits and (ouch!) their breasts slam on the parallel bars. I speak from experience.

And, no, I wouldn't be surprised if you outswam me.

One of the Americans this year is around 27 years old and the anoerixic (sp?) Russian with the bad attitude is pretty old (old being in her 20s).

Darwin I've noticed the mean Russian girl. She sulked and stomped around whenever she didn't agree with her marks and she puts on this sickly fake smile when her teammates does well.

There is one female US gymnast being sponsored by Pamela Anderson. It migh even be the older one. Poor thing.

I've been watching...i get sucked in evrey morning as i eat my breakfast. =)

I'm very interestedin the cycling, and of course esp. track racing (velodrome.)

Cool to see Canadian Lori-Anne Muenzer get 7th and top her best time, AUS got the Gold - woot! Three riders at our track ride the same bike as the woman who got the world record this morning.

I didn't get to watch the men's Kilo, but holy shit they're getting close to that minute mark....0.011 seconds off.

Imagine averaging 60kmph for a full kilometer....eeek..

don't those gymnast girls take hormone suppressants to stop puberty ever hitting, soe of them are so thin it'd be pretty much biologiclly impossible for them to menstruate, all in the name of sport.. which is supposed to be a healthy past time I thought.. anyway, back to my cell work..
