I've just finished a song and I have done a rough mix of it, but my ears are now completely shot! If any of you kind souls can go here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adrian.scott1/ and listen to 'The Dream Makers' (It's the middle song) and give me your opinions of it.
BTW All of the samples used are taken from the original Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory film.

Not too shabby but it's a little too "one to one" for my tastes. In other words, I feel like the guitar fill you're playing during the verse should be doing something different than merely following the chord structure. I like the bends at the very beginning and middle sections, though. The recording itself seems well-done. Good guitar sounds. The drums are rather unemotional, which can't be helped with drum machines. Give SmartLoops or Drums on Demand a listen. The dialogue samples are well-used. "Stop, don't...come back!" Good one.
Now that I've slammed your stuff, you get a chance to do the same (link in sig).

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen. I know what you mean about the 'one on one' thing. The original song (written about 10 years ago) used a sampled guitar bend played forward and then in reverse, but now we have a guitarist who plays what the sampled guitar used to do. We thought about changing it, but we like repetitive things. As for the drums, I can get great results using the Alesis SR-16 or the Alesis DM5 along with Cubase SX. So why do they sound so crap? I hear you ask! 'Cos that was the way it was written' I reply sheepishly.
I'll be sure to pop over and have a listen to your stuff, once I get back from the pub.

the nme would more likely go on about some bullshit about the 'scene' the band is from, who they're mates with, what they look like (their 'image'), who they sound like (normally pixies or strokes or someone) and so on...

It kind of reminds me of Velvety at times.
I like the Wonka samples. They fit in nicely. The "We are the music makers" part is trippy. Also I dig the rhythm guitar sound.

Thanks, I really enjoyed using the samples from that film! Especially the ridiculously long 'argument' one. As for the guitar, I used a Fender Telecaster custom 72 RI through a Fender hot rod deluxe amp (mic'ed with a SM58). If anyone is interested; the song was recorded and mixed using Cubase SX via an Edirol da 2496 audio I/O box.

Hey I have a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212. I really want a Telecaster too. Hard to find left handed ones though.

Are left handed Tele's really that hard to find? I'm surprised. A mate recently told that the owner of Crane's music shop in Cardiff is left handed, so he often has a wide range of left handed guitars in stock for people like yourself. Though every time I go there it's full of Gibson's.  It might be worth giving them a ring. Also have you tried www.fendershop.com ? They do some left handed MIM Tele's for £302 plus £20 or so for shipping.
I personally love Tele's too, in fact I have 3 One Tokai Breezysound 'Tele' with 2 single coil pick ups. One Fender Custom 72 RI Tele with 1 single coil pick up (bridge) and 1 wide range humbucker (neck). Last but not least, I have a special edition custom Telecaster FMT HH with 2 coil tapped humbuckers. They all sound different from each other. I also have a Jaguar, which as you probably know, sounds nothing like a Tele, but just as nice in its own way.

I liked your Wonka Song a lot. Weird for my taste, but I played it 3 times b/c it was good.

Cool, thanks. It's the only song we've done in that style. We don't usually use samples, or write many instrumental pieces. But it's nice for a change.
