What's wrong with them???!!!
I went out on Saturday night,
its been a long time but what the hell?

I heard Billie-Jean at 3 different places,
not to mention a plethora of other '80s crap.
They choose the cheesiest stuff from the era.
(This is on our Whyte ave too which is not supposed to be like that
but now its ruined, ruined I tell you).
I don't even know where to go out anymore.

And the duds people are wearing....
It makes me feel old, and alot of that crap wasnt' cool the first time around...

Would I be cool if I broke out my neon pink "Choose Life" shirt and matching banana clip???

please god may the banana clip never be revived! NEVER!

Yup, the clothes suck, yup, the music's crap, even when I go to the alternative nights I'm garunteed a blast of bloody linkin park and blink shiteeighttwo

I tried to set up an alternative over twentyones night in the city I live, somewhere for grown ups to listen to proper music and dress proper and not have to worry about 15 year old band-aid-for-skirt-yellow-heels-airwalk-trainers-boxers-showing-tony-and-guy-mullet-elbow-you-out-the-way-dance-like-a-ponce-heavy-eyeliner-dragged-out-the-edges-sons-of-bitches

but then I figured it might be an all girls club

You're kidding right? Girls generally have worse taste in music than men.

I know I know, I moped all night.
Especially about how our "Whyte Ave" is ruined.
It used to be all "mom & pop", hippy, good music, buskers etc.
And now its all Starbucks & Chapters...

I walked into one pub where I'd knew they'd play something good.
Turns out he had not one but two Ace of Bass CDs.
Trade in that '80s crap for some '90s crap...

But one really interesting thing happened.
While I was complaining about the lack of "mom & pop ness"
a Vietnamese gentleman from the greek donair place agreed.
We went on talking and after he went on to tell me the most incredible story about taking a 5 by 30 foot boat out of Vietnam and how they were turned away in so many countries til they got here. He said there was a 30% survival rate on that boat.
Kinda makes you not take things for granted....

Not all the ones I know. Far, far from it. A few do, but most don't.

I am not gonna get into this, but trust me........I'm right.

That's why I LOVE the ones that do.

I'm feeling old now that the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is on Nick at Nite.

The 80's are rather blurry for me, though. I mean, sure, I was alive during all of the 80's (birthday is August 6, 1980), but I wasn't so busy worrying about trends and music and all that. I was mostly concerned with Curious George, Richard Scary, Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers and Star Wars for the first half of the 80's, and towards the latter half of the decade it was Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and in 1989, video games.

What I remember about music and trends in the 80's is what I see in movies like Pretty in Pink, the Breakfast Club, Back the Future (I did see part II in theatres in 1989), Ferris Bueller's Day Off, insert many other super-80's movies. I have to experience the 80's through movies made at that time.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

That´s just unfair, you can´t generalize just like that! omen just have much more to do/work than man do...so they don´t have enough time to the forum!

Where the hell did the time go? I remember a time when you'd hear people telling you how lame and unfortunate the 80's were...and now all you see are those stupid sweaters with the collar cut off, ugly flourescent skirts, skinny ties and Quiet Riot playing in the background. What the freak man. There were a couple great things that came from the 80's but too bad people don't focus on the good stuff.

I enjoy sweeping generalizations. Unfortunately, it paints a glum picture for a young man looking for an interesting and stimulating young woman. You should be proud to be one of the rare ones, Rita. :)

Hey Carolyn, have you been inside the new Stoli's? That place used to be kinda cool. Now it's just wack. Nice building though, the one they rebuilt after it burned down. I like how there's a Starbucks, Timothy's, and Second Cup on the corners. Or is the Timothy's gone?

Nope I haven't been there, and I believe the Timothy's is still there.
There used to be this cool pub fairly close to there called the Basement. Yeah they tore it down and put up a parking lot.

Are you saying you've been here and never bought me lunch?!

Been there? I'm there like 4 or 5 times a year. My sister lives there. We've been over this. I'm not fond of you, and don't ever plan on buying you lunch or dinner or anything remotely resembling food. That said, please come to our show in January. ;) (And I NEVER use smiley faces, so you KNOW I'm really quite fond of you).

Am I going to be the odd one out here? I kind of like the trendy version of the 80's look, specially on girls. Asymmetrical haircuts and the like.
I blame Old Street.

Yes, Carolyn, and I expect ridiculous amounts panty throwing. Ridiculous.

Some of the 80s revival is pleasant, as it seems to be mixed with a bit of the early 80s punk asthetic. I could do with seeing less of sweat bands on everyone's wrist. Unless you're in the midst on a tennis match, it looks quite silly.
