American Laundromat Records (ALR) www.americanlaundromatrecords.com has announced plans to produce and distribute a compilation CD called TRANSISTOR, featuring eight up-and-coming bands each contributing two songs to the record. National release date is October 15, 2004, and advance pre-sale copies will be available on September 1, 2004.

TRANSISTOR is the first in a series of records to showcase bands and recording artists ALR likes. Only eight bands were chosen from over 150 demo submissions. See below for a list of bands and the songs they are contributing to TRANSISTOR.

Artists from TRANSISTOR and ALR will be performing at two separate record release parties in September and October to celebrate the release of the compilation. Shows will take place on Long Island and in NYC. The first show is Saturday, September 25th at ‘Village Pub South’, a well-regarded rock club in Amityville, New York (Long Island) that supports and promotes independent artists. The second show takes place at the ultra-hip ‘Pianos’ in NYC, voted one of NYC’s best clubs three years in a row. Bands will be coming in from Boston, Chicago, NYC, Virginia, Oklahoma City, and locally to support and perform at the release parties of TRANSISTOR.

Rheingold Beer www.rheingoldbeer.com will be co-sponsoring the events. Rheingold Beer is New York’s oldest beer and has recently made a comeback as a hip NYC brewery and the beer of choice for New York’s “people-in-the-know”. ALR founder and president Joseph Spadaro said… “Rheingold Beer has been very supportive of the independent music scene, and with their new branding, youthful management and commitment to quality, we wanted to work exclusively with them for our record release parties.”

American Laundromat Records has assembled an exciting team to promote TRANSISTOR. BlueGhost Publicity Co. (Some Girls, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) will be handling U.S. promotions, while ALR and AAM (Wilco, Beth Orton, Stereolab, The Shins) promote TRANSISTOR to college radio stations in the U.S. and Canada. Film & Television licensing is being handled by former Virgin Records executive; Maryann Melchior (Speakerphone, LTD.), who will also be handling press promotion in the U.K.

TRANSISTOR will be sold through select record stores in the USA, direct from American Laundromat Records mail order, and will be available at shows, including several Northeast dates when The Bennies (a punk-influenced pop trio contributing two songs to TRANSISTOR) open shows for The Pixies later this year. American Laundromat Records is working with ‘ToneVENDOR’, an independent record distributor based out of Sacramento, California for international distribution.

The bands and their songs on TRANSISTOR are:

9-Fifty (Chicago, IL)
Heads Up/Face Down
Take Away

AM (Brooklyn, NY)
InTheCity (NYC)
Sex N Drugs

The Atomic Hep Cats (Huntington, NY)
La Cervezas Y Las Pistolas
A Westerberg Song

The Bennies (Northampton, MA)
First There Was Love
Seriola Dorsalis

The Lovable Rogues (Bethpage, NY)
Pictures of You & Me
Such a Pretty Girl

The Modifiers (Boston, MA)

American Laundromat Records is a New York based record label devoted to independent American power-pop, garage folk-punk, and edgy singer-songwriters. Founded in 2004, American Laundromat Records is fast becoming a well-regarded indie label with an ever-growing, and impressive roster of artists.

Well, longtime FB buddies the Bennies are on there, and he posted in the off-topic section.

But honestly, Baltimore13, couldn't you have, you know, made it sound a little bit less like a press release? Like, hey, FB fans, Pixies openers the Bennies are going to be featured on a compilation CD, blah blah... ?

It sounds so corporate that seeing the word "punk" in there almost made me snort my Rheingold beer. If I had been drinking that. Which I never do. I guess I'm not "in the know".

(BTW, what on Earth is "garage folk punk"? A freaky experiment based on locking punks up in their garage with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica?)
