Will I ever be able to see Frank Black and the Catholics live? Once I really started getting into them, the Pixies came back. I love the Pixies...but I like FB&TC's a lot more. The Pixies are back...but now I want to see Frank Black & Catholics...not Pixies. I saw the Pixies in Spokane....their warm-up tour thing.
Now I crave the fat bald man and his third quartet. LOL.

I do believe there are many, who echo your thoughts.
As for myself...
Missed out on the Pixes, missed out on Frank, missed out on Frank & the Catholics...these three Pixies shows in November better damn well blow my hair back (as I'm sure they will)... I guess I may be just a little slow on the uptake.

You certainly will be able to see Frank Black live, and I really hope you'll see the Catholics with him, but I doubt it'll happen. I really, really hope they'll reform though. I'll take the Catholics over the (reformed) Pixies any day.

I think that the fact that he will be releasing Catholics b-sides tends to prove that the Catholics won't come back together.
I must admit that, thouh I liked the Catholics a lot, it is a good thing if Frank challenges himself by changing the line up etc, if it makes him more creative. |

Dunno - The Catholics and The Pixies are very much moments in time - a reformed Catholics would be the same in a way to a reformed Pixies - harking back to something - not moving forward (still amazing though).

I'm sure everyone on this forum likes the Pixies, but many of us have had a moment of excitement when a new FB and the C's album came out. And bought it at the day of release. If I speak for myself every time I buy a new Catholics album I just know it's good and I won't get disappointed. If you follow each step The man takes you develop a bond with his musical directions. You grow along with his musical development.
I've seen the Pixies 3 times this 'reunion' tour and listened to 19 DiscLive recordings. Right now, I've kind of had it with these Surfer Rosa and Doolittle songs and I prefer a new post-SMYT above a post-TLM record.
And another thing: Frank Black and the Catholics are not as big as the Pixies. When the Pixies will release their new album they'll probably go on tour for a year and a half, while a FB and the C's tour is much shorter. The longer a tour is, the longer we have to wait for new releases. Which kinda sucks.
But with 4 albums waiting for its release we shouldn't complain I guess...
I'm bored with the valleys and bored by the peaks. So I bought a ticket to the Pixies |

What sense does that make? A lot of bands come out with B-side compilations without breaking up.
Is Frank done with the Catholics? Maybe, but I've heard no evidence that this is the case, and doesn't it seem like that kind of thing would be announced? I'm sure Frank won't be touring with the Catholics for a while, but, if he enjoyed playing with them, why would he drop them entirely?

The last song on the last Catholics album was called "Manitoba".
The word Man-i-toba sounds just like "Man, it's over" (or "man-it's-ovah!", said with a kind of Brooklyn accent). Obviously Frank was trying to tell us something. You don't do something that blatant without a message. |

Maybe the catholics will do a farewell tour?
I was really looking forward to seeing the catholics after the Pixies are done with their reunion.
So Im headed for the stereo store, to get a white noise maker, and turn it up to ten. |

Yeah. I think Frank Black was a lot more creative once he went solo. He was a lot mellower to, and I liked it more. Like....All My Ghosts. The first song on Frank Black & The Catholics. That is so great.
I want to see them play...oh so badly...haha

Actually I am always initially disappointed... every album. And then they grow and I like them a lot. With most bands it is the other way around. |

http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000610770 Quote from article: "[Black's last solo release was 2003's "Show Me Your Tears," recorded with longtime backing band the Catholics. Asked if he's interested in resuming that collaboration at some point, he said, "Yeah, I suppose. I haven't even thought about it."]" With all tremendous respect due to the man himself, selfishly speaking I suppose I wish he'd think about it.
