2001: a space odyssey

amazing.

The Wickerman, Clockwork Orange, Taxi Driver. Sprited Away was pretty good but i saw it too recently for it to be a favourite.

I think the best film ever made is The Godfather, but my favourite is the Blues Brothers.

you've never seen lawrence of arabia? well judging on your tastes you probably would think it's "just ok" anyway.

my point is that the quality of movies, like the quality of music or the quality of anything, is not purely subjective. there are objective criteria you can examine.

should that be all that's considered when choosing a favourite? obviously no, personal taste has to play a major part as well. but it should be obvious that "mary kate & ashley olsen visit the louvre" is not a valid choice.

this thread is funny becaues the shawshank redemption is kind of a litmus test for whether someone really appreciates movies or just kind of observes them.

Living In (fucking) Oblivion

(You know, the topic is "favorite movie" of all time...

Last I checked, movie is singular, therefore, all replies should have one movie title... but whatever, it's not my Poll you're ruining)

There are so many great movies, but my fancy today is with Slapshot, because someone "finally" tells Capt. Janeway, "You're #*@%ed. And by the way, you'd better get a man in your life..."

I'll stake my reputation on this - David Leans' Great Expectations (1946) with John Mills - the most absolutely perfect film ever made to date. Make sure you don't get another version by mistake.

Angela loves Arnie, so thats her main reason.
we own almost all of Arnies movies up to and including terminator 2 after which he goes shit - about 9 in all.

We also own all the Alien movies, which she opened my eyes open too as well….

Hey benji. Yeah, I noticed that. A true friend wouldn't have posted in the last 4 weeks... Who can you trust nowadays.

My trip was great, thanks. Amazing landscapes, great beaches, extremely hot weather and cool margaritas. I'll post pictures.

Well I used to love Arnie as a kid, and I rented this movie for this reason. However, the predator stole the show completely. It's the reason why Predator 2 is my second favourite movie ever, and why Alien Vs Predator may well just beat them both.

Not the greatest movie of all time, but my favourite in the sense that I can watch it time and time again.

Did I say "Footloose"?

1. I am a fsh with no i's.
2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.
3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.

Okay, did I say "Teenwolf"? I'm thinking "Teenwolf" and "Footloose" are pretty much tied.

1. I am a fsh with no i's.
2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.
3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.

This is near impossible for me, so I will just put in some guidelines for my choice and get on with it. Going on the arbitrary basis of fairly contemporary (1987), all-around satisfying movie that

1. I bought
and
2. watched many times over
3. to renew my lust for life,
and
4. to hear beautifully-spoken monologues and poetry in German
and
5. watch great performances and hear songs from Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson and Nick Cave and the BadSeeds (among others)
and
6. One of the most lovingly acted movies ever -it's as if everyone stepped into another dimension to produce this thing

"Wings of Desire" (or "Der Himmel über Berlin") http://www.wim-wenders.com/movies/movies_spec/wingsofdesire/wingsofdesire.htm

NOT to be confused with that utter bullshit by the same name that came out later. "Angels ...something something or other". Grrr!

Copied from my post on the Worst Movie thread:

My favorite movie (watched over 200 times) is Death Wish 3. So incredibly bad in every way a movie could be bad. It's a sublime pleasure for anyone who enjoys bad movies. Out now on DVD! See www.jabootu.com/deathwish3.htm for a very good breakdown of the film.

I'm the guy from wonderland...& you will never understand...
