I can't remember. I'm so ashamed.

My was Bone Machine... and then one after one from Surfer Rosa. In 88, after i'd read a quick note about Surfer Rosa in a music magazine, the guy wrote that he found it very weird, songs about fetishes, lesbians, cactus... so i bought it.

I'm not sure, but I think it was Debaser, after a friend had taped "Doolittle" for me. I think it was 1991.

Sigh... the first Pixies song I ever heard was Where Is My Mind? while watching Fight Club. I was blown away by it. I was like, "Dude that song rules." I'd fast-foward to the end of the movie just to listen to the credits. I later read the credits to find out who did the song, and the rest is misery, for my friends that is because all I listened to from then on was Pixies. Then a long came Frank...
In my defense... I'm just sayin'
Same, except I downloaded the song after I heard it on Fight Club, and listened to it on repeat 50 times. Then I bought Surfer Rosa the next day.

I got into them when I saw "Monkey gone to Heaven" on 120 minutes. But I'm pretty sure I must have heard "Where is my mind?" and "Gigantic" earlier. |

It was either Debaser or Gouge Away; and for Frank Black, Los Angeles.

I listened to Surfer Rosa, start to finish. My friend Brent heard them first on CBC, bought the album and then played it for me. I was like "what the fuck is this!??". I really did't like what I heard at first. Many years later, I listen to all my Pixies stuff at least once a week. Seeing them live was the ultimate for me. I have seen Frank solo now 3 times. Ran in to him in a hotel lobby after a show once. That was cool. He has signed my copy of Surfer Rosa. I also treasure a pick from Kim now. |

I know it was Where is My Mind. I was 16 and stoned for the second or third time (hash)with a couple of my best friends (one of whom died a year later. It was 1990. Augh! Maudlin memories resurging! Damn you Frank Black Forum! |

I wish I was that lucky, to ran into him in someplace! I´m sure I wouldn´t say nothing, but I wonder how would that be...

i got the surfer rosa/ come on pilgrim album off my uncle so i thought bone machine was the first song i'd heard but then broken face came on and i recognised it from somewhere. Then i was watching Jackass and the one wher they put one of them in a body cast was on and broken face was playing over it.

my friend gave me bossanova to listen to but i didn't realise that the 10 second intro thing was stuck on, on the discman i was listening to it on. So only listened to the first 10 seconds of each of the song and i thought "WOAH! this is a short album"
the first full song i listened to was debaser.

I think that's when my older brother bought Surfer Rosa, but I was very young (7 years old), but the first song I really remember was Debaser, I was finding this music "dangerous" at the time |

In 1989 a musically trustworthy friend told me not to start with either of the first two, since my ears would not know what to do with them at first. So the same day I walked over to the Wherehouse Music store across the street from my school, bought Doolittle on TAPE (no CDs man) and listened to it in my walkman on the bus home. Back before SHUFFLE and skipping tracks and all that, it's pretty obvious that the first Pixies song I heard was "Debaser." Quite the baptism. It's like I lived Frank's "I Heard Ramona Sing" experience with HIS freaking music.
My first Pixies CDs were the "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone To Heaven" singles--the only Pixies CD the store had. I didn't even own a CD player. A friend of mine did, though, and I saw that there were non-album tracks on there. So I had at least two Pixies CDs before I had anything to play them on. Apparently I was hooked.
And then I bought the next two complete with the big old cardboard fancy packaging that CDs used to sport. I cut em up and made posters and decorated Trapper Keepers with 'em. Too bad I hadn't any foresight at the time. Those would be treasures for sure.

"Planet of Sound" was the first Pixies song I ever heard. "Death to the Pixies" was playing on a drinking buddy's car stereo one night when we went out to grab a pint, and I got into the car when "Planet of Sound" had just started. |

me and my friend were at a local music shop in '99 looking through the clearance bins. I only had enough money for a clearance CD.
Well they had "Doolittle" for 3.99 and so I thought I'd pick it up since Kurt Cobain always went on and on about the Pixies. But I knew that he had liked the "Surfer Rosa" album, but they didn't have that there.
So the first song I heard was Debaser, and like many of you, I was like "What the fuck is this?"
And now I am obsessed with the Pixies but moreso Frank Black in general, especially Black Letter Days.
