I honestly cannot remember - wish I could though! All I remember is being obsessed from the beginning. I was stuck on a farm in South Africa with no chance of seeing them live. Was probably about 15 at the time and used to tape their stuff off the radio. If someone had told me then I'd be seeing them live for my 30th birthday I'd have freaked!
Was probably something off Come on Pilgrim. |

Debaser - I went to listen to Doolittle in a record store after reading a rave NME review.
Surfer Rosa, it warms my heart to see a fellow SA Frank Black fan here. Welcome! You must've taped the Pixies song from one of Barney Simon's shows huh?

I downloaded a .wav clip of Gigantic per suggestion from a friend (I loved Nirvana, he loved Nirvana, he recommended them. It had to have been around 96 or 97 or so...downloaded it from the AOL Download Library. I still have the clip.
When I picked up Surfer Rosa, I expected an all girl 80s alt. rock band. I remember thinking at the beginning of Bone Machine, "Who the hell is this guy? He sounds like David Byrne."
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

Sigh... the first Pixies song I ever heard was Where Is My Mind? while watching Fight Club. I was blown away by it. I was like, "Dude that song rules." I'd fast-foward to the end of the movie just to listen to the credits. I later read the credits to find out who did the song, and the rest is misery, for my friends that is because all I listened to from then on was Pixies. Then a long came Frank...
In my defense... I'm just sayin' |

i think the first pixies song i heard was the purple tape version of broken face that was the first song on 'pixies', which i'd just randomly bought as i'd heard good things about them (and kim deal being in the band as i was into the breeders a lot at the time). despite the title being 'broken face', at the start of the song i was thinking "what the fuck is he saying? he's got a brooky in feece?" hehe

Can't remember the specific track... Something off Doolittle as it was playing instore at a record shop 1989. I recall Kim Deal's voice - mesmerising - maybe it was I BLEED or HCYM?????????????????

Was a FB fan first because of his work with TMBG - I wanted to check out these Pixies since I had all of FBs album to that point & I thought Bossanova had a cool looking cover. A week later I bought the rest of the Pixies catalog. |

Dead and Broken Face was the two first, can't remember which one was first.
On a cd store on the net I saw that someone who had bought a Green Day cd I was going to buy also had bought a The Pixies cd. I loved that name and downloaded those two songs.

I really don't know. I remember listening to a clip of "Planet Of Sound" on Amazon and not liking it very much. (The song did grow on me, but it's still not one of my favorites.) I think I heard at least one Pixies song in its entirety (POSSIBLY "Gigantic," but I could be wrong; I seem to recall Kim singing lead, though) before buying any of their albums. The first Pixies song that I KNOW I heard in its entirety was "Debaser," after I bought Doolittle.

Too damn right - Sunday nights were a must before being shipped of to boarding school for the week! Stuck in the UK for my sins at the moment, but yes it amused the hell out of me to see another Saffer on the site.
I seem to remember Barney Simon playing some really good Pixies bootlegs - now if only I could remember what the hell they were! |

The first Pixies song I ever heard was 'U-Mass'. It was part of a mixed tape my older sister gave me a long time ago. (1991?)
By the time the song was over, I had become a Pixies fan. My sister had most of the albums on cassette so it didn't take long before I had immersed myself in Pixies goodness.
I think 'Holiday Song' was also on there so that would be my second!
(The tape also included selections from The Breeders, Tackhead, Fugazi, The Wedding Present, The Sugarcubes, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ministry, The Cure, REM and Led Zeppelin! =) |

Debaser in the local underage disco. Man was that an eye-opener if you'll excuse the pun.
Those first few chords still give me a rush. |

debaser. my uncle sent me a tape-to-tape dub of it doolittle when I was at summer camp he was so excited to hear something that essential sounding in 1989, so I heard the album in my bunk on my walkman one afternoon. That was cool. I remember my first thought -- "gee, they start a lot of the songs out with the bassline first..." I was hooked after two listens.

My first Pixiesong was Bone Machine. The first one in Surfer Rosa. In the summer of 1991, my friends given me the best present for my birthday: Pixies Surfer Rosa.
I was expecting the Godfathers third record, but it seems it was so expensive... so they found Surfer Rosa cheap and bought it to me. First time I listen to it I said: what the hell is this fucking shit??? And look at me now: my opinion is that my friends gave me the best present in all my life. The opinion of my friends is not like that, because they say I am quite bored talking all the time about Pixies songs, records, and from last december, talking about the rumour... Pixies come back again????? Now I see it was true. I could see it in Madrid 50 minutes concert...
