OK, it seems there are a lot of creative people here, whether they get to do it as much as they would like right now or not. This is a sort of old-style salón where we can check out everyone's endeavors and exchange ideas and maybe even freely expand on thoughts.
So whatever creative thing or idea you would like to share, please give a link or write it or paste it here. Sciences, art, music, mathematics, philosophy, music reviews, poetry, prose, art, etc. ...as long as there's an idea of your own that is shared, it's all relevant.
I figure we can just be spontaneous and kind of wing it and maybe it'll provide some cool opportunities for discussion, at the very least we can find out more about each other's interests in the process. |

Apl, your thread is what this forum should be.
I don't have much time these days, and the only creative work I make is writing fatastic/realistic short stories - in French.
So I will raise a question : do you think that the world is a non-euclidian space?
PS : I was looking forward to seeing your contribution to the abstract picture + short story thread. Seeing how unsuccessful that thread is, I think that posting a intellectual/time demanding thread is just not for this forum. |

I am like probably 90% of this forum a struggling musician if anyone wants to hear some of my bands stuff let me know, or if you want to read lyrics, or see pictures. I have our newest single up on soulseek I'm not sure if we have it on our website yet though. Doubt many of you would enjoy it, but I might as well try to promote somewhere.

Thanks Mike, listening to the Wanderlust mp3 right now - I like it! Reminds me of a lot of local shows I used to go to in Louisville. Look forward to hearing more. Do you write the lyrics (care to post any directly here?)?
Monsieur, thank you. Won't you kindly paste one of your stories/thoughts here for us? I have read a few on your website. I don't know if they translated very well through the online translator (in fact, I'm sure they didn't) but I enjoyed them just the same.
edit: Monsieur, I completely forgot to give you my answer to your query regarding whether the world (we live in) is a non-euclidian space. My gut reaction is "Yes".
My goal answer is "Mu".
What do you think? |

Awww, shucks, nobody else biting yet? Doesn't have to be anything grand or even a complete thought - what have you been thinking about lately? Any project you've been wanting to get to? (seeing the movie "Coffee and Cigarettes" inspired me to go back and read more about Nicola Tesla.)
Do you ever have dreams where you hear a song you've never heard before, or ever tried to solve a problem while dreaming? Most of the time these days I forget my dream too soon to write it down. I need to get back in the habit of consciously trying to remember for a while.
OK then, I shall be forced to put some of my "poetry" on here, if you don't respond soon, and you don't want that, trust me. |

Here's a poem about Pollution. It's not by me, but I like it, mainly because of who wrote it. Anyone who knows where it's from gets a prize.
Pollution Pollution All around Sometimes up And sometimes down But always around. Pollution, are you coming to my town? Or am I coming to yours? We're on different buses, pollution But we're both using petrol
I take pictures sometimes too. I have a website, but I'm not telling you where it is...so there!

I'm thinking of getting a four track and going through my songs, maybe record some stuff with some friends. And I'm always trying to get back in to art. I don't know how to post pictures and put music online, so I can't really show/allow anyone to see/listen to my stuff. Because I'm not so knowledgable about that particular kinda stuff. Which is just as well, probably. How about giving the proposed 'Salon' it's very own forum? I'm sure there's a lotta FB fans who'd like to mix it up and inspire everyone. |

I really want to the expand on the 150-ish ideas for songs that I have written down. Unfortunately I am not gifted enough with my guitar to write a full song on my own.
I need to find my McCartney.

I write most of the lyrics, the lyrics page should be updated soon. I could post them, they're pretty god awful though. We're recording a full length right now, but it all completely DIY so we'll have to see how the quality is.

YA CAN’T BE SO PROUD a phat phlow by TarTar
At age thirteen I had a brief malaise Bubbles circling my center in a halogen haze Curdled and dry was all that lied within While my external hummed; I had vibrant skin Tilted and lilting and borrowed for good The suds that wash the drugs straight out the hood With the slopes too steep to reap the lucrative snow Students, they know, and they grow, and they show And they balance the forces and culture the plague The vagueness of the past gives them ammo to grade Those who’ve come before them and fucked up real bad A red sweater nicely knitted, never finished, how sad
Can you get your head all the way around? Can you comprehend what’s comin’ down? Can you grab the sky and take a puff o’ cloud? I didn’t think so, ya can’t be so proud
Vengeful as a pun, like or as as like a simile Santa Clause is comin’ straight down your fuckin’ chimiley With a sack flung o’er his back and a belly full of jelly He’s gonna gank your furniture, your food, and your telly With my brow to the brim and the ball to the bat What you gonna do about a hit like that? I mean, this... shit!... it’s happenin’ right now Prisoner of War, P.O.W., pow! The sonorous aesthetics are non-linear and abstract It’s all about delivery, wizardry, chemistry, vocab and tact I figga the bigga the trigga the quicka the signature you’ll need Left-of-center is my life... my savior... my creed
(A geeky-voiced Music Snob interjects with this spoken word part): Creed? The phrase “left-of-center” and the word “Creed” should never be placed in the same sentence, unless words like “aren’t” or “exact opposite of” appear somewhere between “creed“ and “left-of-center”! Creed is abysmal music at it’s pinnacle.
Narrator: Hey, I‘m digs my left-of-center, and I hates Creed, but you’re a fuckin’ music snob, punk, and now you’re gonna die [gunshots]
Can you get your head all the way around? Can you comprehend what’s comin’ down? Can you grab the sky and take a puff o’ cloud? I didn’t think so... ya can’t be so proud

Hey WolfMan, I like you stuff, especially Wanderlust. The way your music page is divided between "rough" and "studio" provides a nice musical personality test. I went straight to the rough stuff.

Ok, I'll bite.
This is a eulogy of sorts I guess..
While i was alive There were storms and people Making do and not There was soft and hard Big and small and everything you have to work for.
I was a man while i was here if not so boastfully stated every day and there was everything i didn't understand and did and didn't want to There were things that stuck to me and things that wouldn't take
There were springtimes and winters and undefined days of no future and there were lovers at least they thought they were or tried to be. Something while you have to sleep and wake and shit and work and hate and there were sounds I thought were me.
and there was drunken Jazz psuedo sex dancing at 3am
and toilet worship agonizing pain of being alive my vomit on my clothes proves i exist.
A million starts and twice as many stops and no care and no being of what you are.
and there were queers and freaks with beautiful lives ahead with no fear and talented bums and teachers. and month-long acid freaks afraid to make it all real and getinline and just about a million players with big, young eyes and "yeah, man - i can'really do it that well yet..." and songs that rattled the fucking windows and real blues with no sound.
I walked through it all with my heart for sale (cause that's the only thing they want but they don't want to buy if you're selling) and just wanting a little strength a little proof that i am something.
and i walked through it all right out the back door into the desert which is where i was headed anyway.
I'll dream about this tonight with my boring television mind and i'll wake knowing i'm stupid and weak and stil have to be.
I want every day to be like fire and all of my insides worked out so hard they shine from overuse and everyone to hear just a few of my words and make me king of myself
and one good lover - a queen that makes me worthy.

The rough stuff is probably better sound quality anyways, the studio stuff was done by some guy that had no idea what he was doing. The rough stuff is all DIY stuff we're recording ourselves so that's what the full length will most likely sound like.

TarTar wow! and KimStanley, wow!
Brackish -my soundcard is hating me. Next reboot, I'm listening to your songs (looks like they're back again -I tried a while ago, last time you posted that link).
For the people that write lyrics, can you explain how you happened to write them? Did you have music first? Did you start with a feeling, a topic on your mind, or just play with free association? |

My lyrics tend to be on the side of abstract...it may start out with a subject, and then deviate to settle into some sort of mental pattern. In the following song lyrics, the first half was written when I was 17, and the second half was written when I was 27.
WYSIWYG
Show me a six and I'll show you my name Show me a nine and I'll show you again Confusion blisters the soles of your feet Happiness tells them to retreat Clutter and chaos is why time flew I guess that's why I'm an allegory to you
Contagious
Simple semantics carry all of the weight Better to broadcast in the middle of night What you see, is what you get Give it a home and we'll lay it to rest I've read it somewhere and I've seen in your eyes The elements here contain no surprise
Contagious
1. I am a fsh with no i's. 2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different. 3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb. |

Blast, I forgot it was in my profile. There goes the mystery . I think I mentioned them to Mike (homer) in the last thread about art, which is probably when you last saw them. By the way, I happened upon your pictures earlier. Marvellous stuff! I especially love those lighthouse pictures, they're fantastic. Where is that place?

Why thank you very kindly, mislead - I very much enjoy your photography too. I'm sorry if I spoiled the mystery for you (I can edit my post to remove the info if you like).
The lighthouse is the (I think) tallest all-brick lighthouse in the nation, Cape Hatteras lighthouse, in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. They actually had to move it down the bank, because erosion, and the resulting watery sand, was causing it to flood and sink. http://www.nps.gov/caha/livecam.htm
The view from the window photo on my site, titled "From Space", is looking out towards the 90 degree point of the Cape, which is easily visible from Shuttle orbit. |

Great topic idea, Jensy. Almost wonder if it would be more handy with the various arts seperated, but let's see how if goes. I look forward to going home so I can dedicate some time to really lookign at the stuff here. Looking at/listening to/reading art at work doesn't really give it a fair shake, so...

I noticed you put music reviews, and that's the only creative thing I do anymore... This is my review of M83's last album, which (fairly obviously from my review) was my favourite of last year. I think this may be a little pretentious, but it defeats the object of a music review if no-ones going to read it. This one didn't end up getting published, so I might as well put it up here.
M83 Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
There are certain records that are best appreciated played loud staring into a brooding late summer twilight, letting oneself be enveloped in the vastness of the sound and sky. If that sounds a tad pretentious, consider Suede’s ‘Still Life’; The Cure’s Disintegration; or most pertinently My Bloody Valentine’s epic Loveless. The all-encompassing grandeur and scope of the sound wraps the listener in a swirling wall of sound and leaves him with a sense of having experienced the music rather than just heard it. The new release from French duo M83 can be added to that illustrious company: this is a truly breath-taking listen. The field of electronic/rock crossover is perilous and fraught: many have attempted it but the number of successful examples is very limited. M83 aim for combining avant-garde electronica with MBV-esque slabs of pure noise, and succeed in creating what is, to these ears, the first truly great effort in the genre. Supplementing a Loveless-style arsenal of feedback, dischord and guitar noise with an innovative, creative approach to electronic technology, M83 create true soundscapes: hypnotic, whirling, grainy analogue synthesisers compete for space with hugely distorted banks of guitars, all the while complementing rather than interfering with another. ‘On A White Lake, Near A Green Mountain’ is the perfect symbiosis, a coming together of disparate elements into a cohesive whole, transforming a rippling stream into white noise before injecting a mass of synths and an ambient beat to forge an eerie yet fulfilling morass of atmospheric howls, only to fade out in a hail of blistering, howling guitar wails. The following track is titled ‘Noise’, and could be a watchword for the entire album. The melodic synthesis of ‘Be Wild’ is punctuated by unnatural electronic skitters bringing to mind the nerve-shredding tension you felt watching ‘Alien’ for the first time. ‘In Church’ introduces an apocalyptic, sepulchral sumptuousness straight out of Final Fantasy, but the beautiful collision of ecclesiastical and electronic only tells half the story of this record: witness the awesome ‘0078h’ to hear M83 ‘rocking out’. As a drilling guitar line pierces your eardrums, a cut-up, ethereal female vocal melody leaves you disorientated and breathless. This record cannot be recommended highly enough. M83 are the first band to create a credible electronic rock album that lives up to its promise, and in creating this epic have set out a template that others will imitate for years to come. So far ahead of its time that it leaves the zeitgeist trailing in its dust and stretching to catch up, this monumental release will leave you terrified, exhausted and hypnotised, but ultimately aching for more. Lie on your back and stare at the stars while you listen to this record and you find yourself believing once more in the power of music to inspire and uplift.
Kind regards, Dr. Simon Specialist In Broken Hearts |

I actually was gonna say Deal at first but then I realised I don't need a bass player 'cos my mate plays the bass. We have had a few practice sessions, but can't really develop on what I have produced so far. We really need another guitar player, one who has played for longer than I and is therefore better than I.
I guess a Deal crossed with a McCartney would be perfect 'cos I would like it to be a female guitar player who can provide vocals too. I love the way male and female vocals work together. A big reason why I love the Pixies I guess.
The only problem with this of course is that I am a bit wary of advertising for a guitar player whilst I am so goddam average on the guitar. I would feel embarrassed when they come for their first rehersal. They'd be like "What the hell have I gotten myself into here?"
Good ideas are not enough.

offerw, thank you very much (for the kind kind words, and the inspiration)! That artist's work is very inspiring, escpecially the fact that he is a contemporary. My heart felt like it was going to burst. It's hard for so many years to not being able to get to the presses, chemicals, facilities, etc. that I need for printmaking. This will help to renew my efforts. Thank you!
As far as having a creative bone in your body, I need to probably clarify that this thread was meant for people to be able to not only share tangible creative endeavors, but also what kinds of things we have been thinking or dreaming about, what random revelations have you had that you would like to tell others about?
Have you been trying to come up with an invention, or been curious about the way something works? In "Coffee and Cigarettes" Jack and Meg White are sitting in a coffee shop. Jack has brought along, in a red wagon, a Tesla coil that he built. It leads to discussing Tesla's theory that the Earth is a giant conductor of acoustic energies. That's something to wax philosophical on. Basically, I'm wanting to encourage the kind of wandering, wondering, conversation that results from too many cups of coffee late at night with good friends in a coffee house. |

Okees... well it is kind of neat that there are a lot of creative types on this board. And have listened to and read many of your endeavors. Overall, fb.net message board is getting my vote for favorite board right now. Lots of interesting characters around and what seems to be some good folks. Which is nice. And somewhat refreshing.
So, I guess I'll add my link in. I'm a painter. This is my web site:

Has anyone seen that exhibition of photographs taken of nature from a birds-eye view? I saw it in Warsaw, it was recently outside London's Natural History museum and now it is in Birmingham (according to Tre).
It's fantastic stuff, I suppose you can't go wrong with shots of nature, but these are especially wonderful. Be sure to check them out if they are ever in a town/city near you. I forget the name of the photographer I'm afraid.

Im always dubious about sharing the stuff I do. I dont really draw verymuch anymore, I used to alot, but most of my drawings I wouldnt show anyone.
I have three or four books full of poetry and things like that...again most of it is a little too personal to share with any one.
I have hundreds of band reviews, essays, stories and scripts though. maybe when i get time I can put them on here.
Great stuff from everyone so far!
Mike - why dont you kidnap Bumble and drag him in to your band!

Hey thanks so much everybody for keeping this thread alive. It's very cool to get to see more of everyone. Really enjoying it, but also hoping for more conversation. I figure that'll easily sort itself in time. :)
Tre, (or HPM), any idea what that show is titled? I'd be interested in seeing examples of the work online if you have the artist's name or anything to go by. It sounds like a great topic. Reminds me of the amazing and beautiful shots from bird's eye view in "Winged Migration". |

Here's another rap, but this is from memory.
There is something in the air out east That feeds the brain with a stain of electrified grease And manipulates the earnings of the people in the places So the fossils are accused of leaving lump-dump traces A foreward based nation of thirsty, rabid Muppets On sebatacle to indulge in toilet-bound crumpets A song sung so straight from a land's long lost love I'm here to say to all... Welcome to the club
Ruled over empires, rolled bread and buttered buns Turned everything dark by spitting on the sun Cereals that are dampened by catsup and gin Fetch the meaning of life out a' bargain bin Gutenberg rests on the press, sniffing ink Feeling good cuz Garbo lost her gun-safe key down the sink Crucifying cigarettes for playing too much dub But they're still all welcome... Welcome to the club
Okay, the last four lines or so were part of the original and they got changed later, but it was the only copy I could find for reference since I had trouble remembering the second part. But eh... oh well.
Do I look like a beautiful blonde with big tits and an ass that tastes like French vanilla ice cream? |
