Are you a member of any other forums? Do you post there regularly? Do you have any other online activities - mailing lists, online games etc, that involve people that you don't know otherwise than from the web?

I must say I was a little sceptical about all that virtual community stuff. I still am. Although we have some very interesting discussions here, and it is very interesting to see how some people that are so different from me live, I must admit I find all that anonymous chatting a little creepy.

Im an active member of the mclusky board. Its ok not really much goes on but when the singer is an active member to, it makes it a little more interesting. I've never been on a board quite like this one though. Bond.....Good Bond

I'm not a regular on any other forum, but have been on a Red Sox (baseball) mailing list for about 13 years. I know some of the people on there, but for the past 5 or so years I have mainly lurked there. Curt Schilling (big time pitcher) is a semi-regular on the mailing list, so that's neat.

No other forums anymore. I used to be on a comic book forum, but I don't think I ever posted there. There was the Year of the Rabbit (a good but unsuccessful band) forum, but the band broke up and there was never ANYTHING remotely interesting going on on that board.

The first one I ever tried was BadDealings.com, a forum where people would go to bitch about products and services. (Mostly computers.) It was right after I got my computer and I was trying to get info.

Take me, break me, tell me a good one and maybe I'll cry

I don't really partake in any other online communities...I used to go through phases where I'd move from one community to another...#kurdt_cobain on Undernet (IRC), #uo and Ultima Online, the emulation scene, games...I still talk to people that I've befriended from those communities (I still talk to a friend whom I've known since I believe December 96 or so...have a few friends from around 97...).

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

I used to be on the digital hell and analogue heaven mailing lists (electronic music gear heads). Still a member of the fairly sporadic Laurie Anderson club on yahoo. I'm on Warp Records, Metropolis Records, Cooking Vinyl, Alternative Tentacles (Jello Biafra's label), www.epicurious.com (recipes), and some other mailing lists, and am a member of the Big Black forum (dead). Some others I know I've forgotten.

This place is far above all others that I have seen. Fugazi's forum (through Delphi) is AWFUL. But that is because the navigation is disgusting. The members seem cool for the most part.

Other than that, chat with my siblings and some others onm chat clients. No longer chat in IRC since I moved to Mac Panther. Need a new client I guess...

I was an IRC junkie for years and years, met many people offline and made a lot of great friends there. Usenet for a while, bulletin boards pre-internet, musical forums (mostly the making kind, rather than fansites). Also I have been involved in various technology forums over the years. This is the first fansite I have been around, and I am not active in any others of note at the moment - this one sucks up all my spare cycles. Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp. All gone.

i used to go to the radiohead msg board until it became lame.

this is the only forum i visit lately, though i sometimes go to yahoo's buddhist chat rooms when its late and i'm antsy. i'm not buddhist, but have studied enough to appreciate a little. there is actually very little buddhist talk, a couple of pure nut jobs, and generally interesting people. sometimes.

this place is becoming a nice habit when i get home from work.

:)

warm wishes and fond regards,

Fb.net is all that's left for me now. I used to participate in the Ween forum on EZboard, but it sucks there now.

I come here because, while there may not be a surplus of women, all the women here are super foxy. Awwww yeah! And there's nothing that boosts my spirits quite like interacting with nice looking ladies, even if it's on the internet. It's even better to talk to ladies over the internet than in real life, cuz on the internet, they can't slap me.

Being the massive Throwing Muses fan that I am I post on Throwing Music Online. Furthermore I have interests in The Beatles, Pixies (obvious), 4AD in general and a few other things as well. I post on several forums related to the topics mentioned.

But I also have a social life... :)

I'm subscribed to several e-mail lists, mostly for bands I like (They Might Be Giants, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, and Frank), as well as two Oz lists. I also read the alt.music.weird-al and alt.tv.simpsons newsgroups when there's something significant going on, and the alt.music.tmbg group pretty regularly. As far as web-based boards go, the only ones I read regularly are this and a Futurama one, but I occasionally look at and post to other ones. I generally prefer e-mail to web-based boards, because of convenience issues, but this board tends to be pretty easy to read. The fact that it tells me which messages I haven't read yet helps, although this feature malfunctions at times.

My favorite online forum was actually an off-topic offshoot of a TMBG mailing list. There used to be a LOT of traffic on there back in the day, but it's since decreased dramatically. I met several cool people on that list, including my girlfriend.

i'm signed up for about 20 yahoogroups.. but i don't really keep up with more than a few. and i've got about 10 forum/message boards bookmarked.. checking some several times a day, and some maybe a couple times a week, if that. in regards to online communities close to my heart, i'd rank fb.net somewhere in the middle.
i also kinda tried the Friendster & MySpace thing.. but haven't had much luck. maybe met one cool cyberfriend on MySpace, but that's it.

I would imagine it's generally easier to meet people on forums based on interests than on sites designed specifically to meet people. I have a Friendster account, but nobody has ever contacted me on there. I tend to be socially awkward, and I'm not a fan of meeting people for its own sake. On the other hand, I tend to post a lot to forums where I know something about the subject (as I'm sure my post count here makes obvious), and sometimes I can meet people through discussions on such forums. Besides, that way I'll know that I have at least one interest in common with these other people.

Most of my list mail goes to a separate e-mail account, which I generally only read when I'm really bored. I'm subscribed to my favorite lists through my main address, though.

i spent a lot of time on the toadies forum for the past 4 or so years, but it just recently shut down. thus, i spend a lot more time here in this fine general chat forum.

i cruise around a few weezer boards (that have very little to do with weezer) here and there, under the name Fritz the midget.

well, they released a second album in 2001, Hell Below, Stars Above, broke up soon after, released a live album some months later, and now their forum is dead. todd, the lead singer/ songwriter, is practicing writing shitty songs with his new band the Burden Brothers. how he has fallen.

anyway, pick up their second album. it's fantastic.

I post at a few other boards:

City TV- City is a local TV station based in Toronto (where I used to live).

aperfectcircle.org- I've known the webmaster of this site for a few years now, though only online. When he created his first site (oiad.net) I was there and just followed him over when he bought aperfectcircle.org. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the band, but the boards are entertaining.

Yahooka.com- I've been on this site for almost 5 years now, I started off as a regular poster but somehow ended up becoming a discussion board admin. Yahooka bills itself as the "guide to marijuana on the internet".

I also ocassionally post at the boards at Cannabis Culture (a Canadian pro-marijuana magazine).

I don't know why people think being part of an online community is "wierd" or "creepy" or somehow "not real life"....online communities are like microcosms of human culture, and just because you can talk to people that you've never met, doesn't make them any less real now does it? That's like saying once you get off the phone with someone they don't exist. Meh, I'm starting to ramble....

If you're getting cotton mouth, my mind is like an ocean...
