Why do you guys have to fucking derail another thread with your stupid bullshit? Seriously? Make your own thread for your shit, it's getting old.

Ok so back to the topic at the masthead, similar to other posters I have found that when I get exhausted it usually means that I am sifting through the slag at the bottom of a single genre-heap, or have burned out my sources of information.

Just the other day I found three great blues singers that are not nearly respected enough in the American blues pantheon - Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, Big Jay McNeely, and Big Maybelle. Why do they all have "Big" in their name? Pure coincidence, I assure you.

Jason: If you want to try Cuban music, I highly recommend the Buena Vista Socail Club album as an introduction. Top notch.

In any case, divert yourself from your furrow. Sometimes the walls get so high you forget you're down in a rut, since you can't see anything else.

Thankyou Jim. That's what my comment was for too, although now I feel like I just added to it.

What the fuck is your problem Jim? Anyone else you would like to have a go at this month? And don't repeat what you just already put, there's more to this than that. A lot of people have stuck up for you lately so show some fucking respect.

Why do all the arguments on this forum usually invole you? Time to have a look at yourself I think. Long and hard. Most people like to come here and get along with others, despite what slightly annoying traits they may have. They don't start having a go about it. Your out of order. Simple as.

gee the immeasurable guilt of having a bit of a laugh is unbearable, oh the weight on my shoulders is crushing it really is....

Maybe it has annoyed you guys but it was just a bit of harmless funniness, and I was quite amused by it. I think both of you are just a mite fucking rude with your responses to be honest with you, I don't see the need to diverge from what was just banter to self righteous verbal abuse!

Can we hit a happy medium? If the banter starts to read like an instant messaging session, hang back and take it to IM or email. If you are bothered by it, post something on topic. Try to re-rail the thread. I have at times both been annoyed by and contributed to the ugly signal to noise ratio here, but still come here for the insight and information first, witty remarks second.

So on that note, Another technique I have used to reinvigorate my passion for music is to mine old tapes, cds, vinyl, etc. Sometimes I run across things that I forgot I loved and get totally ramped up about it, and things like it, for the next 6 months. Then I burn out again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Haha, I didn't try to be an asshole about it. I added the "bloody" for good fun and then felt that I added to the de-railment which is why I made my second comment. Didn't mean any harm. So I'm not sure what your "couldn't resist, could you?" comment was for. It was absolutely nothing personal despite what you think.

Ah, and now to post something on topic: I don't think I've ever grown old of music. Certain bands, yes. (ie: Weezer...I grew tired of them rather quickly.) But not "music" as a whole. I don't know what I'd do if I got sick of it...Because that's probably the most important thing in my life right now, to tell you the truth. If I'm not playing music I'm listening to it.

Hahaha, yeah, I know. I think it's just been the horrid amount of derailments and/or the huge amount of SPAM that has been getting to me. It's just so hard to have a serious conversation on this forum anymore. Anyone else notice that? Whenever a serious topic comes up it's quickly transformed into "harmless funniness". Haha, "transformed"...I make it seem like some type of genetic mutation. THE THREADS ARE TRANSFORMING! RUN! RUN!!

Again, the SPAM is annoying me like nothing else. "Try the new clear seal paint!" "We lay one horse per bet!" "Want your song on a record label?" "Check out my band. I'm not going to bother posting here but we need a larger fanbase...so..uh..here you go!"

Can you atleast understand our frustration and not take it as personal "fucking rudeness"?

I can understand yes. I just like to be silly. I'm a silly sausage. Or a "silly fucking sausage".

I just don't understand why Jim had to try and pick a fight about it. If he had a problem, he could have mailed me. I don't want to come here and fight.

I just wanna get along, I just wanna get along.

Anyway, I am listening to The Shins at the moment, so music just seems as great as ever to me right now.

I'm not tired of music at all, but I sometimes worry that I'm stuck in a musical rut, and only listening to the same few bands. I haven't really discovered any new (whether in the sense of "new to me" or "new to existence") bands as of late. I also don't really have the money to buy albums by a lot of different bands, though.

As for the nonsense, I'm generally for it. I'd say there are different types of nonsense, some being fun and some being more annoying, but I realize the difference can be subtle. I can see how it would be frustrating for a thread you really care about to get a lot of replies that have nothing to do with the subject, but my own take is that off-topic replies are better than NO replies (unless it gets to the point where they make the thread hard to read, but I don't think that's happened on this particular thread). Besides, if a thread is kept alive with nonsense, more people might notice it and add on-topic replies. That's less likely to happen if the thread has been inactive for a long time. It's not like someone posting something that doesn't relate to the topic means no one else can make on-topic replies. I agree with what SpudBoy says about "re-railing," as well as about not turning forum threads into chat sessions. To me, the important issue isn't whether something is on-topic or makes sense as much as whether more than one or two other people are going to be interested in reading it. I understand that the moderators don't necessarily agree with me, but that's just my take on the situation.

Hey, I didn't know so many of you would answer to my thread. Funny how you guys translated "tired of music" by "tired of life"...

Actually, I am not depressed at all, I was coming back from the beach when I posted that (I came back home only today), and had played tennis for 4 hours that day, so I was feeling really well. And it's not only the fact that I don't find "new stuff" that is weird, it's the fact that music doesn't play the same role in my life as before.

I guess I have to replace it in its context: since my childhood I had been really passionate about music (though I don't play any instruments). During high-school years, with a couple of friends, it was a way of distinguishing ourselves from the others, who didn't know who was David Byrne etc. At the age of 20, I realized I was almost exclusively with people who had more than 500 records in their collection, despising everyone, and I also realized that these friends were not that good after all. Today, I have many new friends who don't know shit about music, but who like litterature like me, or who share the same passion about the Nordic countries etc.

I am sorry to disappoint you people, but many of you are sometimes a little bit like these friends I used to have, and very often, music = name dropping. I'm not only talking about "indie" bands here. Come on, there is music outside this tiny world : I don't know much about jazz, but I think that the contribution of Bach, Mozart, Stockhausen or Mahler (name dropping again) is way more significant than that of Weezer (sorry HPM).

In fact, it's that attitude of compiling the records and finding obscure bands from the 60s or the hype bands from the 2000s that I can't stand anymore. The joy I once felt when listening to a new record is slowly going away.

Nietzsche (once my favorite philosopher) said that "without music, life would be an error". I am not that sure about it anymore...

i would say music is an even bigger part of my life now. i've always been a music fan. but now that i'm older and have a job, i can actually afford to go to concerts / buy cd's etc.. it's not as often that i'm completely swept away by a band (like, in my more impressionable late-teens etc..), but it's still just as big a part of my life. i'm constantly listening to music and most of my friends are pretty big musical people.

i've gone through periods of not liking any new music, but have found it's just one of those things... then you suddenly hear about a band, check out a few songs, and hey presto, you have a new fave band and about 10 albums you now need to own... plus new bands come out who are pretty darn good. admittedly the kind of bands i like seem to be getting harder to find, but they're still out there, making good shit. anyone who says music has been uninteresting or boring or lame for the last however long needs to get out there a bit more and try discovering some decent shit. or heck, if it's that bad, get out there and make some good shit yourself!

And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else, and I'm lonesome when you're around, and I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself, and I miss you when you're around.

I make good shit every time I sit on the can!

Seriously, I think it would be cool to be able to make my own music, but I have neither the skill nor the talent. Not that there aren't plenty of professional musicians out there who lack these things as well, but there's enough bad music without my contributing even more.
