BC
My name's Aaron Her's is Betty Our boy is a Charlie, So the neighbours sing "hooray for ABC" ABC forever, each endeavour that I do, I do to keep together A+B+C
BC, Betty, Betty, get back here BC, Charlie, Charlie, get back here You're conveniently forgetting our little wedding So much for our ABC Say hello to instability
Everyone we know is shifting to, is shifting fro, With the exception of we 3, we're ABC Aaron, Betty, Charlie, here today and here tomorrow, I can hear them sing "Here, here" for ABC BC, Betty, Betty, get back here BC, Charlie, Charlie, get back here Three was never crowded, our little house did House three handsomely BC, Betty, Betty, get back here BC, Charlie, Charlie, get back here You're conveniently forgetting our little wedding, Our honeymoon beside the sea
You just cannot believe in ABC If you can't believe in ABC, You can't believe, you can't believe, you can't believe, you can't believe Rumours spread like tumours, Too too fast and too too true Oh, Betty, Charlie, Betty, Charlie don't you leave BC, that takes care of ABC BC, that takes care of ABC Once the fixture of the ages, the Yellow Pages start with baby's needs
BC, back to swinging in the trees BC, back to crawling on my knees Aarons here without a Betty Without a Charlie So much for our ABC So much for our stability So much for our stability So much for our A+B+C |

A rather inane comic strip.

Isn't the creator of "BC" (the comic strip) a conservative or something?

To answer my own question, I'm somewhat divided. I can see why people prefer secular names for the two ages, so as not to alienate those of other religions. On the other hand, there's no denying that our years really DO date from when Jesus Christ was (allegedly) born, so, if they truly wanted to be non-religious, wouldn't they come up with a different calendar entirely? On the other hand, a shift like that would be really confusing. So...I don't know really know. I guess I'm fine with either one.

I have no idea. All I know is that I vehemently hate it.
Ok, maybe vehemently hate is too strong a characterization...
mmm... nah!

I'm a big fan of... the Pigpen. As in the character, from Peanuts.
Okay, not really. Don't dislike him, but not a big fan. Hmmm... which cartoons did I like when I used to read them daily? I liked a lot of them, but many were inconsistent. I probably didn't get a lot of them at the time. I remember Frank and Ernest being pretty unique. And of course Calvin and Hobbes. Far Side. Doonesbury. Curtis had it's moments. Garfield. Hell, even Blondie had some good ones. There's one more and I can't think of the name of it, or any of the characters. I remember For Better Or Worse. That was okay. Jeez... there's one I can't think of. It had a man, his wife, and their daughter, who always wore a hat. They were kind of depressing. I want to say Dengar but I know that's not it. Not Hagar the Horrible. Oh well.

Yes, the creator of the BC comic strip is a far-right conservative. He also is a devout christian and has no qualms about devoting strips to various scripture quoting (although usually in the context of a particular topic), or moral parables per his own agenda (unless it involves the cavegirl with the hooters - then it's ok to have the guys drool and such). Evil stuff for the funny pages, and not very forgiving, cheek turning, or un-judgement-passing. Like most organized political groups and religions that espouse such values. Besides, how can the guy with the pegleg quote the new testament if the setting is before the time of Jesus? I smell a rat.
I use BC and AD, because one reference point is as good as another as long as there is common understanding.

I use an entirely different system actually.
BBF, DBF and NFB.
BBF is Before Black Francis. That would make 1987 the year 00. some might say it should be 01, but I disagree... others might say that the Pixies were playing in 1985, but as far as I know Charles Thompson didn't begin using the pseudonym Black Francis until 1987.
DBF would be During Black Francis, from what we know as 1987 to the very end of 1992. Since the Pixies broke up so early in 1993, I figure that what we know as 1993 falls into the
NFB, Now Frank Black. This was from what we know as 1993 to 2004 when the Pixies officially began touring. Now... I don't know what the hell to call it. A continuation of the DBF years, which ended at the year 05 going into the year 06.
