Hi, i attended the first 2 brixton gigs - 2nd june was amazing but the 3rd was absolutely mind blowing!!! anyway, i have the first 2 netburns and whilst they are amazing souvenirs and this is no way a dig at the disclive team, i just think that the crowd noise is too distant and doesnt capture how absolutely everybody sang every word. i know its impossible to capture the full atmosphere on cd but i just think that the crowd sounds a little flat. Does anyone agree? will the same source be used for the actual shipped discs? cheers... |

I don't want to hear that crowd singing every word. I was there on the 4th, and for the most part, the crowd's singing was awful.

I agree with you chrissybaby. The crowd just a little bit louder would be nice, especially to hear 'Your bone's gotta little machine' kind of moments. Having said that I do think the Net Burn quality of the 3rd (the only one I bought apart from Minneapolis) is very high. One thing I'm not sure about though is my Netburn does not include No. 13 Baby - same for anybody else?

Ziggy i dont mean that i wanted an audience recording vibe, where you can hear someone asking their mate for a cigarette or a random pissed up bloke screaming "TAAAAAAMMMMMEEEEE" - i just thought that the atmosphere could have been better reflected by turning the crowd up a notch. as sprite alluded to it was amazing to hear 4000 people singing "you are the son of a motherf**ker!!!" in unison. Im so grateful to have a soundboard recording though so im not really complaining, just merely wondering.... |

First off, I think you'll find that when you are listening to the pressed CDs versus the NetBurns, you may have a bit more fidelity on the audience since there is a wider range of audio presented (NetBurns being 128k AAC or MP3 files, versus full on quality of the pressed CDs).
Secondly, I'll pass your comments on to Eric and the rest of our audio crew. I think it's a very difficult balance to strike; you don't want a karaoke CD of audience sing along, but you do want to get goosebumps when you here the crowd's appreciation after a solo or a vocal... we do our best to try to strike the right balance with every recording.

I got the 04/06 netburn, and think the balance was pretty spot on. Their is something curiously uplifting about hearing 4000 people shout, and knowing that you are in there somewhere having the time of your life. On the other hand, hearing the audience of the band is probably the most annoying thing ever (anyone else want to throttle the audience on the "Dream is Over" bootleg?)

I have the 4/06 one too. And I was there, and hearing 'Where is My Mind' hollered out of tune was not good. However, the CD barely shows it, which is good. You still hear the applause and cheers.

looks like im probably in the minority here then :-) either way as i said before its not a complaint!!! ive listened to my 2 netburns everyday since the gigs in my car on the way to work at full volume... great memories of great shows... ive had the dream is over boot for years now, i got it from a dodgy record fair in birmingham (in the days before downloads) and i love it, but same as you say 'the thing' i wouldnt want the same individual crowd noise on the disclives. more importantly, why anybody would be chatting to their mates at a pixies gig is beyond me.... |

Well, I agree with you Chrissybaby. The crowd sounds a little too distant for my liking on the Brixton Saturday netburn, though I wouldn't want the sound of the band to compete with the audience. But I'll reserve judgment until I get the CD.

I've got the netburn from the Thurs, and it really doesn't convey the passion and ear-melting volume of the audience at all. I was particularly looking forward to hearing the "oooooh oooooh"s during 'Where Is My Mind' as the audience seemed spot-on at the time - it was goosepimple-inducling and haunting.
Obviously there's a balance to be struck, but since most people who bought these CDs will have been at the concert, the balance will probably need to be skewed slightly more toward crowd noise than would usually be necessary. Like the previous post says, it's great to listen to the sound of thousands of people having the time of their lives and know that your voice is in there somewhere!
Also, Kim's questions to the crowd seem to go pretty much unanswered on the netburn - not how it really was I assure you. |

Also, does anyone know whether we're getting a double CD with all the encores? I should hope so, but you never know there may have been some small print saying "You will only receive n songs regardless of how long the gig goes on for". |

Of course you will receive the entire concert. No fine print.

Jake, as someone else said previously, if all customer service was as good as yours, I'd have to give up swearing. Rock on! |
