Its ironic, I know, but talk about a 2005-2006 Pixies tour doesnt leave much room for a Catholics tour....I also think that the two-track magic of the Catholics will grow in popularity with age.

....and rather than start a new thread, I have another worry. Firstly, the Pixies reunion confirmed what I had worried about, that if they reunited, I would not be able to see them in the intimate venues I was used to seeing FB&Cs in [I am still quite pissed that I have to see them in an arena of 7000 people and have to fight with kids to get in a reasonable vantage point]. What I am now worrying about is when the Catholics do eventually get back on the road, will they be playing in bigger venues also?
(I mean there are a lot of fair-weather fans out there)

Exactly what I thought yesterday when seeing the Pixies in a 4500 people arena with a shitty sound. I don't think the Catholics woud play bigger venues - and I can't wait for Frank to come back to Paris in a small theatre.

True, sad but true. Gives you that "yeah, but I liked them when they were small" feeling. Imagine how REM fans must feel!

I haven't seen the Catholics yet, only FB solo last year. And I'm sorry to say, that seeing the Pixies in Brixton last Friday paled by comparison. Bad sound and fair weather fans. I don't sound snobbish, do I?

I don't think you're going to be seeing the Catholics in large venues, just my opinion, but the Pixies were around 12 years ago and had a large following when FB went solo, and not many followed him, so I don't see why they would now...

That said, I would hate it if that were to happen now even as I'd love that FB's finally getting the deserved attention. So torn...

I didn't find the sound that bad. It was much worse at Elysée-Montmartre.

But I didn't like that much the people who were there. A bunch of highschool kids that didn't know much about music. And they were pretty violent (I was in the front at the beginning, then had to go back because the guys in the front obviously weren't there for the music).

Frank's audience is much nicer. More like me.

Btw, this show (I was too young to see the Pixies before) made me realize that the Pixies should remain in the past. I mean, the other members seemed to be really kind (especially Dave who seems to be a genuinely nice person), but you must say that everything was gravitating around Frank. Frank was the star. Simply, the Pixies were directed towards a younger and wider audience, and Frank's solo/Catholic work is more mature and more complex.

Now we're all waiting for Honeycomb!

And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

saw the catholics in an awfull venue in october in birmingham, they shut down half of the academy and shoved FB and the catholics in a corner because they didn't sell enough tickets, yet FB with the pixies sells out in minutes.... seems odd to me!

Bizarre...I saw the Catholics last year at the London Astoria and the sound was shit AND it was a big ugly venue stuffed full of people. Conversely, the Brixton Academy gig (I was there on the saturday) felt intimate (even though there were 5,000 there) and had brilliant sound quality.

I have tickets to see the Pixies in October and can't wait BUT I still want to see The Catholics in concert some time also. I'm not sure how large a venue the Pixies will be in (I'm fairly close though--Row 11) but tomorrow I might get tickets for a venue in KC that holds only 1800.

I haven't seen the Catholics yet, but I wonder if they would fit in a large arena. It seems wrong to me...

I try not to freak out about stuff but I am haunted by the question "When will the Catholics get back together?" Ditto the question, "How can we live in a universe where the long-awaited Pixies reunion might mean no more intimate Catholics shows?" When I start to freak like this I am reminded of that Don DeLillo quote about the mind racing at 3 in the morning like a lonely hunter.

One question FB should ask himself:

"How could I stop playing with a guy as fantastic as Rich Gilbert?"

All our Catholics problems would be solved.

1. I am a fsh with no i's.
2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.
3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.

I think all the Catholics are fucking awesome - Rich Gilbert is just the most blatant about it.

Haha! Can we turn this thread into another Rick vs. Lyle war? Cause I'm glad to be getting my Lyle back next year. Now all I need is some McDave and everything will be crackers.

Would Frank tour Honeycomb with the Catholics, seeing that it's had no Catholics input?
It's like he's starting another chapter in the life of FB. He's done this before.

Sorry to speculate, but it's going to be interesting and fun to see what's going to happen.
Can't wait for another FB tour.

I saw some FBC shows where they were obviously tired and toasted, and other shows that were nothing short of "Right On". When they're in the zone people dance with delight and Frank seems happy too. A few of the greats, like Zappa, Neil Young, and FB, mix up the bands. I think it keeps them fresh and fosters new ideas. Foremost they are Composers who perform. Both Neil and Frank like to pop into clubs and do sets. I hope to see FBC again someday and I do crazy mad look forward to more DVD releases!

Was looking through the King Holds Court archives to see if I had missed anything, came across this question to Frank from dayanara;

_____________________________________________________________________
2.) any plans with the catholics?

hmmm...boxed set. don't know if that involved more recording or not.
_____________________________________________________________________

Does that mean more recording is to be done with the Catholics?
Or am I reading too much into this?

It means that at the time he didn't know how the reunion money was gonna look and he wanted to perhaps cash in on some Catholics dollars? Who knows (but Frank)? Catholics-related business is on the back burner these days.

I love the way you love the Catholics.
I wish they'd reform just for you.

Do you have a favourite Catholic record, or song, Kathryn?

That, my friend, is a Sophie's Choice-type question, and one I cannot even begin to ponder.

I do, as some of you here may know, have a favorite Catholic:

Just after I posted I realised how stupid the question was. I mean, there's a song for every mood.
So instead:

What song suits your mood this evening?

I saw the Pixies rock it in a little club with Pere Ubu in 1991, and it was jam-packed with crazy kids then too, including myself, so who knows...
I've never seen The Catholics live, but I caught Frank with another band sometime between "Teenager" and "Cult Of Ray," and they were insane! They played a little under 2 hours with almost no breaks between songs, and I didn't recognize ANY of the songs. Frank was a complete sweaty mess by the end of it, as was everyone in the audience.
As for the Pixies reunion: I'm glad they played on Austin City Limits, because the show in my town sold out so fast it's the only way I'll get to see 'em this time around.
