I travelled from the UK for this show and it was fantastic - I've been going to gigs since I was 15 (nearly 30 years - jeez!) and this was right up there believe me.

I have to say that the venue itself and the acoustics of 'Le Zenith' were great - much better than most of the sheds and converted cinemas we have over here. The sound quality was great.

The atmosphere was excellent and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves - there was a lot of chat between Kim and Frank throughout.

I don't know if they did the same at Brixton or elsewhere but at the end of the set (Vamos) they just stood for about 2-3 minutes while all hell was breaking loose waving and and watching the crowd.

Then instead of going off seemed to have a quick chat and played 'Into The White' before finally leaving the stage and coming back again for the 3 song final encore.

It was bloody hot mind - Kim even mentioned it during the show - afterwards most of the guys in the Gents were throwing bottles and cups of water over their heads to cool down.

As for Mogwai - a boring meandering dirge I'm afraid - and the 'French team to beat the English for us Scots' routine was a bit pointless!

Il paraît que sur la set-list, les pixies avaient prévu de faire encore un rappel avec "planet of sound".
j'ai eu aussi cette impression qu'ils allaient faire un 3ème rappel d'où les sifflets et les mécontentements à la fin.

I quickly saw the setlist ... and "Planet" was planned at the end ... let's hope we'll have it next monday (and lots of different songs).
I thought we would get another encore, cos it looked like the roadies were preparing instruments.
But the crowd was so exhausted that there was just a little less applauses, noise, shouts ... and they put on the lights, and the "it's finished, you can go home now" music followed.
Then, it sounded like there was an increase of the noise and applauses but it didn't end like at the Bataclan this year, when Frank Black came back to sing "Caribou" a cappella (voice only, no music ! GREAT !).

Hello,

What's the band's/Le Zenith's policy on photography? I'm going to the show on monday next week, and am thinking of bringing my DSLR along for some pictures.. (sometimes venues allow compact cameras, but not "bigger" ones, so it'd be good to know!)

Just back to Canada after a week in Paris and the absolute highlight - THE PIXIES! The show absolutely rocked, although, as many, I was disappointed that they didn't come back for another encore. I think the crowd was totally into it at the end, I think the band just couldn't go anymore - it was so damn hot. The crowd was cheering like mad right up until they turned the lights on. And for those interested in the set list - don't forget Kim's awesome rendition of "In Heaven" in the encore.

Thanks so much Pierre for hooking us up with tickets - it was amazing we will be ETERNALLY grateful.

Has anyone heard anything like Frank's scream coming out of a human being?

P.S. No offence but the beer was piss (and it was hot by the end too!). Ah well it staved off the edge of the heat and got us drunk. Who am I to complain?

Hello Everyone.

The Pixies The Pixies The Pixies The Pixies The Pixies The Pixies.
THAT was the best musical concert I've ever seen in my life. Bar None. You must go and see them if they play near you and you'll not be disappointed, I promise. Some bands lose their edge after the dreaded reforming but this one didn't at all. Incredible.
Aye, we were fine too. No' Bad. The Pixies

I was really dissapointed with the sound in the venue so surprised to find many of you praising it - gimme Brioxton academy any day!

highlights for me were the awesome trilogy of u-mass, gigantic & velouria

biggest surprise was in heaven not being followed by wave (uk surf)

c'est tres chaud - indeed Kim, indeed.

this is why events unerve me

Great gig and too short.
A friend of mine said this was really great but the songs sounded too much like the albums.
But that's the best compliment i ever heard for a band which had 12 years break !
Anyway it was damn hot but like everyone here i was a little bit disappointed about the ending.
I'm so glad that they still have the best sound ever !
So now, where's the new album ?

A few questions to the guys who has been to the show: How late did you start qeueing? I'd like to be near the front. If I cannot get to the front where is the best place to be? The seated area any good? Do the security guys allow digital cameras?

If you arrive at 4pm you will get a very good spot. (no need to come earlier)
5pm a good one.
Either you get to the 1st row in front or you go to the 1st row of seats (which is said to be an ok spot) !
the moshing pit is WILD (ie: unbearable!!!)

If you hide it a little, you will enter with a camera.

Offerw,

If the heat is as oppressive as it was on Monday I can recommend the front seats. The sound there is pretty good and you get a decent view although it is a bit far back.

Thanks Holiday Son and Swedish. I'll be there early (between 4 and 5PM), I'll be wearing a blue Pixies shirt (Trompe lettering) from the Brixton show. I'll be looking out for forum members.

Offerw, I suppose you found this t-shirt at the Brixton show ...?
In Paris, 3 kinds of t-shirts were available :
-- a brown one with on the front a big yellow round with "PIXIES" written in brown in it, and in the back another round with "PIXIES" and "sell out" written and the dates of the european tour round the round (I wonder if someone will be able to understand me !!! :)).
-- another brown one (lighter) with "PIXIES" on the front and nothing on the back
-- the last one is black with "PIXIES" on the front and "sell out" and the european dates on the back (in lines, but I'm not sure)

I took the first one but I'd like to find a sober one only with the "P" of Pixies in the Trompe le monde lettering ...

Nono, the shirt I picked up was not an official T-shirt. I bought it after the show from a guy displaying on the pavement. I've seen a few fans with shirts only with the "P", they weren't on sale that night though. Mine has Pixies written out in full. Maybe there'll be some other shirts on Monday after the show...........

I also saw those fans with the "P".
We'll see on monday.

Last monday, I went to the Zénith at 6:15 PM and I've been able to take a place in the 3rd row, nearly in front of the drums. But it can be more difficult this time, I don't know.
As for me, I think I'll be more calm that time, in the back.
(I say that now but as soon as I'll hear the first notes, it's may be stronger than me .. :)).

Hi folks,
Me & 2 friends are planning on going to paris on Monday to see the pixies, without tickets. What do you reckon our chances are of finding tickets before the show, and at what price?
We've never been to "le Zenith", anything we should know? Are there different types of tickets or just one general admission.

Could be possible.
Last monday, lots of people were selling tickets. You'll find tickets ... but plan to bring extra cash.
I heard a guy talking of 50 euros (real price is 33 euros) ... it can be more expensive.
I don't know where you come from, but as soon as you are in Paris, take the metro number 5 and stop at Porte de Pantin.
You can have a look at a thread called "French members - 2nd Zenith concert June 14th" for more details ...
I think there's only one kind of ticket.
On mine, it's written "Placement libre", meaning (if you're not french) that you can take place wherever you want.

Good luck, guys.

Hi,
last week i arrived about 17 pm but decided to enter after 18.30 and reached first rows without any difficulty. and i don't think it will be more difficult for the 2nd show.

the same for tickets... last week it was easy to buy some not too expensive. so, i don't see why it would be more difficult for the 2nd show...

anyway, i've got 1 place too many. if someone is interested, i will be ther at fb.net tomorrow at 12am (french hour) and in front of the zénith about 18h30 or 19h. so if any fb.net's member is interested, he will have priority... so let me know...

see you there guys...

Hi Nono,

Monkey.
