Hello,
I'm just back from the concert. I had a great time and I was really surprised to see that many people. The "ambiance" was really friendly and I feel like Kim, Frank, Joey & David enjoyed it too. Just the end was kind of strange. Everybody thought that they would come back after leaving the stage. After a few minutes they finally turned on the lights. Then you leave with a strange feeling. I was also amazed by the tshirts, they look really good.
I hope that everyone had a great time like me,
JM |

Sorry, I don't have the setlist, I just remember the beginning. 1./Bone Machine 2./Crackity Jones 3./River Euphrates Then I'm not sure of the order: Hey, Cactus, I bleed, Tame, Debaser, Gouge Away, Caribou, Where is my mind, Monkey gone to heaven, WAve of mutilation, Gigantic, No 13 baby, Velouria, Here comes your man, Holiday song, Ed is dead, Isla de encanta, Into the white, Broken face, In heaven... I might forget some songs.
Good night,
JM

Yeah that was great, very punchy, I almost died in the crowd behind... They also played Mr Grieves.. I was a bit disappointed with Mogwai they kinda made people sleep and the sound was really bad when there was saturation all you could hear was noise... |

Same for Mogwai. Was not really looking to see them and when I entered the hall, it was f*cking dark, couldn't see where I was going. There was already a lot of people. So I went out for beers! |

Mogwai lead guitarist said he wished France football team to beat England. Actually, Mogwai are scottish, so I don't think they support Beckam and his friends ...

They also played Something against you and Broken Face. Lots of things to tell but I don't remember 'em all. Frank's brother was there (I guess it was him) and he looks a lot like Brian Wilson. What did Joey played at the end of Vamos' solo? They didn't leave the stage for the first encore (Into the white) which was kinda cool and Frank asked that the light stayed on. The second and last encore was: Gouge, Debaser and Tame. I've never seen an encore that loud from the audience, that was kind of a shock they didn't come back after Tame because the audiance was wild (even a little too much sometimes during the show...)
Highlights: Mr Grieves, In Heaven, ... Too bad they didn't play Blown Away.
That's all for tonight |

the bad stuff: I found the sound was disapointing especially for mogwai, but also when frank and joey were strumming like mad all I could hear was noise! they made some songs sound too "punchy", too loud... i bleed was weird like jmdick I though the pixies left in a weird kind of way : they just put their guitars down and walked away...and that was it! also they weren't very talkative... they didn't play many songs from bossanova or trompe le monde...
the good: there were lots of people, i could see the stage very well! frank "sang" incredibly well ! the guys from mogwai were cool, they joked and said some words in french.
overall it was a good concert and would have been awesome if the sound had been a bit better. |

First thought : that was awesome. I was in the third row at the beginning of the show. But then it was a real war to keep one's position !!! It was so hot that it was sometimes hard to breath. Broken face almost sent me to the cemetery ... I gave up after Something against you and began to go down into the crowd, about 10 meters from stage. Pixies haven't lost their energy while they were accumulating weight increase and losing their hair ... Too bad they didn't come back after the second encore cos people were very excited.

It was so hot and the show was so punchy that I'm exhausted right now (never been so tired after a show). I had to spin my t-shirt dry with my hands because I sweated so much !!! Now I'm gonna take a refreshing shower (I will try not to sing Pixies songs too loud, otherwise I'll have problems with my neighbours ...). I don't know for you but I'm always very excited after a concert. It will be some time before I can sleep, so I don't think I'll be very concentrated on my work tomorrow ...

Last thing before the shower : the french radio OUI FM (102.3 in Paris) said today that there would be cd's of the tonight show available 20 minutes after the concert, for 20 euros. I personally was sceptic cos I've ordered shows on Disclive.com. Disclive made this for the 15 first shows after the reunion in Canada and USA, but they never said they would do the same for the european tour. We asked in le Zénith and it looks like the information was wrong. Too bad cos I think some people (including me) were disappointed not to be able to go home with the cd of the show. Does someone have any information about that ?

28 songs ! 1 hour and a half ! The less we can say is that they did the job. En français, je dirais qu'ils ne se sont pas foutus de notre gueule.

Did someone notice the adhesive on the guitar of Mogwai lead guitarist ? "Don't mess with Texas". I like that kind of sense of humour (at least 25th degree !!!).

"Don't mess with Texas" is the Texas anti-littering bumpersticker. I agree it does take on other meanings these days, but then it was a poor choice of phrase from the start.
Thanks for the reports. |

The problem comes from my home pc because it's ok at my work. Whatever, good job ! I saw a few photographers during the show ... were you on the first row ?

You're welcome, Erebus.
Thanks for this precision ... I had actually already heard of it, but, funny, I only focused on the "other meaning" as you say ... This slogan sounds very nationalistic (or state-istic) and authoritarian, not particularly welcoming.

Bravo ŕ toi ! Tel le roseau qui plie mais ne rompt pas, tu as fait front dans la tempęte. As I said before, I was in the 3rd row and the crazy crowd ate me after a dozen of songs ... poor me ...

but of course Stuart (Mogwai guitarist) means it to be taken as anti-bush.....his hatred of GWB is wellknown to those who are fans of Mogwai.

I didn't like that line about the French national team (which I support) beating England . OK, he's Scottish, so what? They play music without words, and the only thing he had to say was this? I can think about many smarter things to say.
I like Mogwai, nevertheless.

Hey everyone / salut ŕ tous
I was at the front row and found that the lighting was very poor. I went to many shows in smaller venues and it is the first time that I notice this. I was standing more or less in front of Kim and most of the time I could barely see Joey because of this poor lighting... On top of that, the pics I took which are usually good (check the photo gallery) were a bit foggy and colorless...Did anyone have the same feeling ?
From a musical point of view, I really enjoyed the long long outro when they played Vamos. Joey did a long guitar solo including a part of the "Where is my mind?" riff into it !! I also appreciated to see that Frank and Kim looked so close, talking and joking around during the songs.
I am sure the show was taped because I was asked at the end by a pro-taper if I was interested in a recording. I will let you know if I get a grip on it...

HI
I was seated at the fifth row for mogwai then stood up like everybody, almost in the middle, sound was ok, not disapointed by the setlist, I loved them all and was aware that they'll only play Surfer/pilgim/doolittle songs, but I would have liked to hear subbacultcha or hang wire.
The audience was very excited so that's why I think people were a bit tired when they should have asked for a third encore.
Shame on the Zenith for the commercials before the show, I went there for the strokes and it did not happen.
Now I wait for Frank going back solo, and play show with ONLY FB songs (honeycomb, honeycomb, honeycomb!) |
