I have a strange feeling that "In Heaven" with Kim on vocals was recored for a new pixies LP (if they did record one.) It would seem strange, I know, but the song was never properly done. I also think that the way they are playing it now is SO different that they didn't just pull it out from nowwhere.
Thanks -heile |

good points, also Kim doesn't do enough lead vocals. i would have thought (with being in the Breeders n all) that she would play a bigger part IF a new album is done.

Yeah but I doubt they would release a new album with a song that had previously recorded on it.

That's what they did with Trompe le Monde...Subbacultcha had already been recorded with Distance = Rate Times Time as the bridge. They changed it dramatically (made D=RxT it's own song) and re-recorded it...

Same with Bossanova, wasn't Down To The Well on the Poiple Tapes?

With the Black Francis version recorded and released... I'd be ok with that.. but what about "In Heaven" bookending the cd.. like Black Rider.. two different versions.

It would be great. But, there's a problem with it. In my car (the only place where I can hear Pixies and Frank Black), my CD-Player turns to the first track when the record ends. And, you know, it's a little bit annoying to hear the same song two times closer in time.

I think the real clue is in how much new guitar work they seem to be sneaking into the live sets now. In Heaven is radically different, but they are doing other stuff, subtle changes to riffs in Cactus, Gigantic and River Euphrates, there is a freshness in the way the are approaching the old material that suggests there is alot of creative thought going on, not just a bang through the old setlists....

Yeah but this is a little different. After all this time I think people would expect completely new stuff, not re-recorded versions of old songs (as good as they might be). I could be wrong but I would be surprised if they did this and I'm not sure it would be the right move. Completely new material I say. I wanna hear where they are at as a band right now. I say release In Heaven as a b-side (my my, I am getting ahead of myself here).

Maybe there is just a bunch of old shelved Pixies songs no one knows about. In the Errol thread it was mentioned FB had 6 albums worth of unreleased/unfinished songs. Maybe there are some Pixies songs grouped in with that. I wonder what brand new songs would sound like? Probally not like SR or Doolittle or TLM, but would they be a mix of SMYT and Title TK? Who knows. Who would buy this album. Sure the old Pixies and FB fans would and maybe even some people just getting into the Pixies would pick'em up. But I don't think you would have a lot of new Pixies fans then going out and getting the new FB release. Look at the contrast in SR and SMYT. That is a big difference. I can't see people who are just discovering Bone Machine turning around and jamming out to New House Of The Pope. Am I wrong? |

"Vamos" was released on both COR and SR, but I don't think that's exactly the same thing, either.
