So anyway, there's this Russian download site called allofmp3.com which charges 1 penny per mb of mp3 downloads, so $10 for 1gb. I read a few different reviews on this site and they all agree that the site is completely legit and legal and has had no customer complaints. I guess that Russian copyright laws are much different than the USA's, so it is not in conflict with the RIAA. In fact it's been open since 2001 and there have been no attempts to shut it down at all. Our prices are cheap because of the exchange rate between dollars and rubles. (For Russians, each song is priced comparably to iTunes songs for us.)
Yesterday I used Paypal, which it conveniently accepts, to deposit $10 in an account with this site. And I have received over 10 CD's worth of music as of right now. They all sound great, in fact you have your choice of 5 different file types (WMA, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, etc.) with your choice of bitrate that they encode for you nearly instantaneously. I am really excited about this site, and you should definitely check it out. Sorry in advance to my PC friends who have problems with exploiting the system. :) |

i personally hate the idea of buying mp3's. cds and vinyl records yes but not downloads.

Me too. I love buying records and I will continue to do so 'til they make them no more.
Nice of you to inform anyone else who may be interested though. Seems like a good deal for those who are so inlined.

| Thanks. :) I will continue to buy CD's too, especially those from musicians who I feel extra-inclined to give my hard-earned cash too (see Frank Black, Radiohead, etc). |
