I will never forget Saturday night ever. Being a few steps away from Frank when Head On blasted off was one of the moments of my life. The crowd! Mayhem! The setlist incredible. Benji mentioned in Thursday's thread they should close with Vamos, spot on.It was unbelievable, Joey had so much fun. It was over far too soon. Thank god I've Paris to look forward to.

v. important question. On Saturday night, a large horn shaped thing appeared attached to Dave's drumkit. What was it for?
I meant to ask this before now... we all just remembered here. I don't remember it being used either... unless I missed something.. it wasn't there the other nights (according to Steve here who went on all four nights)
was it not there other nights? i assumed it was something to do with the live recordings? but obviously not if it's not normally there, very odd!

all the horn will be for is to get a better sound for the cymbals. seems a pretty damn wierd method, but there must have been a reason.

i want to be back there right now. wow. kim's 'ooo-oooh's in where is my mind were gorgeous, i couldn't stop staring at her, in heaven was brilliant too, and i'd been hoping they'd play dead and mr grieves so they were great :D

seems weird, cause none of the other nights (and looking at last nights pics from Paris) didn't have them.... and the actual recordings of the show don't seem too different either... ah well! |

I had assumed until now (as I only went to the one show) that it was part of the stage set. I thought it was a huge megaphone and seemed to remember such an item featuring in a cover design somewhere along the line. I think I must have made this up in my head on Saturday as I stood and looked at it.
But if it wasn't that then it does seem odd indeed.
I wonder if Frank caught this mornings celestial phenomenon, the Transit of Venus? To make up for missing Halley's Comet, maybe? My pinhole device wasn't up to much and I had to make do with pics on the web. |

it was definitely only there on saturday ... I kinda assumed it was something to do with disclive - recording ambient/crowd noises or summin' (it had a microphone pointing into the horn) ... then the pixies came on and I forgot all about it |

if it had a microphone, than its to do with the disc live recording only. It must have turned out (on the previous nights recordings) that the overhead microphones weren't picking up the sound properly.....

The horn seems to be at the wrong angle / place for the cymbals. If the cymbals weren't coming through very well in the mix on the other nights, the sound engineers would have just used better quality or different mics. I would have thought the horn was to do with the ambient mic'ing of the crowd. Disclive had two AKG 414's (I think) by the mixing desk and a few others scattered about.

they also had 2 Dynamic mics next to the mixing desk as well (Sm58's?) I know the 'horn' seems in a wierd place, but the only real detectable sound at that position would be the cymbals. Unless Dave was meant to stand up and shout things into it...........

For what it's worth, the horn had nothing to do with DiscLive. |

well do you know anything about it~??????
it seems a very weird piece of kit, and if it had a mic in it it obvoisly had some purpose other than a prop......

(thanks to Vicky at TMO for those pics!)
Do you or anyone else have pictures of the Saturday night gig, I would love to see some if anyone took a digital camera in. I didn't take anything because I thought it would get conficated but I saw loads of people taking cameras in no problem.

I want to apologise to all the Badly Drawn Boy fans for caling Damon Gough names on here before. He seemed a genuinely nice guy and a good musician.
