ow...i know all of us here got a "wow, people dont dig that?" but damn. a bit too much cheese for some? its a nice 'going back home' tribute, or at least me and a few friends dig on it for that reason...love the song structure, too. |

the SONG itself, Cult of Ray is one of Frank best, I think. It in the tradition of other greats like Freedom Rock, Robert Onion, and Massif Central as being just a sold balls-out rock song, but of course with FB's subtle genius coloring it throughout. The rest of COR is good and definitely brings me back to the summer of 96 when I was desperate for a follow up to TOTY, and spun COR fanatically. I still like and and I find that 'you ain't me' and other obscure tracks from it pop into my head more often than many of his other albums.

is this supposed to be a best-of list overall, or a best-of list in terms of the ROCKIN songs that will grab a neophyte by the balls and won't let go? Frank has more than one mood, y'know?

I detect bias towards the last album. Let's face it - "The Snake" is a shitty song, and deserves to be at the bottom. And "Coastline" at #8?? Please! It's fine, but basically a wisp of a song. Both "Horrible Day" and "When Will Happiness Find Me Again?" are vastly superior.
"Speedy Marie" "Superabound" and "Robert Onion" are better than "Los Angeles." And I love both "You're Such a Wire" and "Creature Crawling", both in the bottom ten. Get your heads out of your asses people! |

The Snake is NOT a shitty song. Its a must-repeat for me almost every time through. It has that already-ending riff sound (you know, it like, instantly resolves) and the lyrics are some of his best recently, if you listen to the implications of the chinese astrology on his relationship to whomever he's talking about (wife). And I just laa-aughed when you begged and you pleaded!!
Sorry, but it is no where NEAR shitty.
