oh my fucking god! that was the best gig i have ever been too. if i thought last night was good, tonite was on a totally different level.
they were clearlyu having the time of their lives, whereas last night they were obviously very nervous.
they played for 90mins, with 3 encores and it was just the most intense gig experience i have ever witnessed.
when they finally left the stage, the audience didn't even have the energy to clap to encourage another encore...we were all just so incredibly drained from the experience.
there was obviously various members of their families there tonite cause they kept on looking towards a section of the balcony and frank thanked the loverings for lending their shed to practice in all those years ago. and i have never heard frank tlak so much - it wasn't much, but he did mention how the best of was missing the 'hey' after singin said line.....i could see Jo cringing from my spot....
highlights were hay, which was just spellbounding and vamos once again which just went on and on, with joey unsuccessfully trying to light a cigarette while his guitar was sitting on the stand. oh, and the fuck up with the beginning of gouge away - where kim thought it was is she weird, but frank almost beginning to sing gouge away...they played is she weird in the end with gouge away straight after.
can't remember the setlist, bu they started with la la love you and ended with into the white....
oh my fucking god.

Yep, I'm with you on that one. How FB keeps up with Tame every night I'll never know. I liked the dropping the ball bearing through the pipe, that was kinda cool.

I don't know, for me the Wednesday show was better somehow. I was pissed off initially with the lack of Where Is My Minds and Levitate Mes but looking back it just felt like Wednesday was more of a cult thing, rather than a showcase for the new best of album. Choosing to start with something like Winterlong was something only the Pixies would do and the continuation into stuff like Gouge Away and then finishing with Into The White gave it a cooler feel than last night's. Oh, and the crowd was a bit better, more enthusiastic on Wednesday. Still, worth paying £50. |

I was so knackered last night. Security took my digital camera at the door, so I got no photos, annoyingly, although one of our group had a camera phone, as did most other people around our area.
I was watching the magic, but from near the back, so didn't see what he did, esp with the magnet, so what exactly happened? I did like the way he went off to 'She Blinded Me With Science' by Thomas Dolby!
Pixies wise... my first time seeing them and wow. I think I read too many reviews on here first though, and expected too much, and was disappointed for the first few songs - plus cause of my tinnitus I had earplugs in, so it cut out all the loudness, but it all clicked somewhere in the middle...
We were right in the middle of the slope, which meant we couldn't see a lot close up, but from there it seemed like the band weren't giggling and joking and stuff - like when they started one song, and Charles sang another, (I don't remember which any more, brain gone) and they just seemed to snap into the song and all correct themselves... they were tight, and fantastic.
I know I'll probably enjoy Saturday more cause I've got no expectations now, I've seen them so they can only be better.... I got so hyped up about it yesterday!!
I gave it 9/10 :)
and I laughed when FB said the "Hey" part :) |

It was great but I couldn't make out anything Black/Frank said.
My highlights were Levitate Me, Into the White - a great psychedelic ending to the show - and the joy of a girl in the queue when my friend gave her our spare ticket for nothing. |

Saw Pixies last night. They played for about an hour and 40. The first half hour was kinda weird. the band made one or two minor fuck ups and seemed generally nervous (apart from Kim who had a big smile on her face all night). The crowd didn't seem to care as about 2/3 of the crowd were pogoing like made. i was in our usual spot towards the back so just watched as I wanted to take it all in. black francis came in with the wrong song, the band seemed to relex and from then on it was great. now i've had a chance to see them properly I'm going to try and work my way towards the front at V so that I can get in the mosh pit
I was kinda sceptical to begin with, what with it being a blatant cash cow tour but they won me over and from what I hear they've written a couple of new tracks together. hopefully we'll see some more pixies material next year.
They played a similar set to the previous night which is listed on the NME website but we got Where Is My Mind amongst others. It was all in a different order as well. they opened up with La La Love You. Virtually everything was from C'Mon Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle. One from Bossanova (Velouria) and a couple of covers. Nothing as far as I can remember from Trompe Le Monde. No complaints from me there.
All in all I'd rate it 7/10 but I'm a stingy old git.

I think Into The White is possibly the finest closing song I've ever heard, and certainly one of the best uses of strobes. In fact, I thought the lighting was cool all around. It started with a very sparse white background, and then the big round lights over the stage came out for WOM (Surf). Cool. Reminded me of Motorhead's Bomber, bizarrely. The strobing in Tame was mental as well, seriously ace. But Into The White man. Into The White...

Last night a dream came true for me.... I arrived at Brixton about 8:30pm with seating tickets, and after a fruitless attempt at trying to get people to lend me their standing ticket (so that I could go through to the standing area and acquire four tickets from people who were already in), managed to bribe security with 15 quid.
Man, I couldn't have asked for more. Starting off with the quieter songs (La La Love You, Here Comes Your Man etc etc) and then ripping into the more rocking tunes. They all looked really happy, especially Kim who practically grinned her way through the set. The crowd got well into it as well, and I have to say that was one of the best crowds I have experienced.
I was quite drunk by the end of it.... I shouted out 'Frank Black.net' a couple of times in an attempt to meet a few people (I was very drunk by this time) from the forum, but it didn't work.
I really think that last night was one of the best gigs I have ever been to, they did a great job, and for what it's worth I really hope that they stay together and record a new album. Man I'm still blown away by the brilliance of the Pixies!
Did anyone see Errol (I presume it was Errol) standing to the side of the stage, he was a slightly smaller Frank Black with hair... in fact they look almost identical.
10/10.... they could have played for another 4 hours and I would have cheered them on for more. Id there anyway of getting hold of the gig on cd??

I'm new to the forum, but had to join in the fun - last night was just awesome! I've seen FB 4 times, but this was something else!
From the moment Dave Lovering came onstage grinning like a lunatic in his white coat there was no question that this was going to be special. The atmosphere in the crowd was superb; after about 30 minutes of havinng my internal organs re-arranged 3 rows back between Kim and Frank we retreated to the edge of the moshpit, where my glasses got knocked off and pretty much destroyed. It was worth it though
Personal higlights were Gouge Away (sounding *so* mean!) and U-Mass as the first encore. Jumping around crashing into total strangers while yelling "It's Educational" at the top of your voice just does something to you, especially for a teacher on half-term holiday.
Just going out to get some blank CDs...
P.S. I'm not sure that all was quite what it seemed in Dave's magic act. As one of my friends pointed out, why didn't the metorite fly off its little stand onto the magnet? I feel it may have had slightly more to do with the "isolation plate"...Hmmm |

All I can do is echo the above. I saw them twice in their heyday but I think last night surpassed it. Three encores!! We know how Frank believes encores should only be given if the audience 'asks' hard enough. Well done the crowd - didnt seem to be much surfing but I could be wrong.
Highlights for me: U-Mass, Is she weird, Bone Machine, Monkey gone to Heaven and a song I longed for but never heard all those years ago No. 13 Baby |

there was a fair bit of crowd-surfing last night, though possibly less than the previous evening
word of advice to anyone considering it - brixton has a very low tolerance policy (hence the signs either side of the stage) and crowd-surfers run the risk of being banished upstairs or ejected from the venue altogether ... so best to leave it 'til the encore |

I have to say that I feel a little robbed now from the previous night's set. The crowd stayed for about 15 minutes and screamed for more but they only did one encore.
I want my money back!!!
Just kidding.
Seriously though, despite the superior setlist, I would never swap the opening night of their return to the UK for ANY other night, no matter how good the setlist/support/mood of the band etc.

thursday night was fucking brilliant. daves magic show was great!
i was right at the front and the security's faces during joey's vamos noise fest was brilliant. "what the hells this??!"
also, i'm guessing from how he looked and descriptions of him on here that it was franks brother i could see at the side of the stage? and on the wednesday night, i think i could see kelley deal at the side. unless i was just hallucinating.
