since i'm sick of conventional stuff my musical tastes have recently started to take a turn into the bizzare. I've just discovered the Butthole Surfers. "Kunts" from Locust Abortion Technician is the funniest thing I have ever heard. I laugh everytime I hear it. And "the Shah Sleeps in Lee Hravey's Grave" is the best example of concerted dementia. I recommed them to anyone looking for something different. But be warned, it's not so much music as anti-music. Some is just complete fuckin mayhem.
Do you have any music to recommed that challenges the norm? |

Hmmm, I think I said it wrong. I'm not talking about comedy. I meant something awkard where the concept comes across as funny or unusual. For example Velvet Undergroung - White Light/White Heat - The Gift was "funny" but cruel at the same time. I don't want stuff that tries to be funny but something that's done with a straight face yet the results are strange, hence amusement (or bemusement).
There is a Frank Zappa song where he says "I've been fucked up by so many legal bills/ That my asshole is the size of Beverly Hills". The music is solid but the lyrics are off-centre. Does anyone know the name of it? |

The mclusky promoing bandwagon rollson - Mclusky great band with some cool tongue in cheek lyrics sound similarish to the pixies.
Examples
"My love is bigger than your love/sing it/my dad is bigger than your dad,hes got eight cars and a house in ireland"
"All of your friends are cunts, your mother is a ballpointpen thief"
"Shes a beacon for pissed ships/she sits by your cornflakes/and waits for the gravy train/token skinheads"
"Cos I only wanna video or photograph of that time you knocked my sister over/yeah your hearts gone the color of coca cola"
And on and on
I May've Joined The Cult Of Frank If I Knew What The Balls Was Going On.

I will, I will, I will. Upon my fellow fb.net member recommendations, I checked out Modest Mouse and I like what I have heard so far. Love the new single, 'Float On'.

Dead Milkmen are hilarious, and for that matter, King Missile...but they're more outright funny, rather than funny-weird, because bugs and dark thoughts are crawling across your brain pan, at the corner of Creepy Street and Lake Shore Drive .
I guess maybe Devo and The Residents would apply? now that I've had my lunch...

Somebody gave us King Missile tickets as a wedding present in 1991. Now that was a good gift.

Weird Al's one of the best, well his older stuff anyway which is actually really well done. IE> Biggest ball of twine in Minnesota, theme from rocky 8, girls just wanna have lunch. Some of the songs are entirely of his own creation too i think. |

That's funny, IceCream, I just said the other day that I should set-up Zaireeka again. I listened to it a few times when it was released in it's full octaphonic sound and really liked it. I had friends bring their boom boxes over and we'd have a listening party. Very cool, with sounds coming from all over the place. Quite tuneful in places, too. I'd heard they we re-releasing it in a stereo mix.

Caroliner. Their "singer" channels his songs from the ghost of a singing bull that was alive in the 1800s. Go here for pictures and sound samples: http://www.freedom-from.com/caroliner and you can buy their stuff at www.subterranean.org They're really fuckin awesome. |

I really wish I could like Spike Jones as much as I did when I was a kid.
Now it just comes across as stale/dated.

I remember playing Linger Fickin' Good for my friends when I was 13. I mean, a girl saying "Who's your favorite cock?" and a guy saying "motherfucker" over and over was fruggin' dangerous then.

That's Rocky XIII, or 13, actually. Not to be confused with Rocky VII: Adrian's Revenge.
quote: Some of the songs are entirely of his own creation too i think.
Actually, MOST of the songs on his albums are basically original. Some of these originals parody certain musicians or styles (one of my personal favorites is "Dog Eat Dog," a Talking Heads take-off), but the tunes are original. He is, and probably always will be, best known for his direct song parodies, though.
I might recommend Camper Van Beethoven as a weird and kind of funny band, but I don't know that they're exactly the kind of thing broken part is looking for.

listening to the Johnny Cash DEATH album becomes unintentionally funny after a while. song after song about people dying.. enjoyed that on my recent roadtrip.
has anyone heard the classic punk band The Crucifux? those guys were funny.
listening to some of Brian Wilson's later fucked up stuff can be quite funny. "Vegetables" is a personal favorite. not to mention Wesly Willis (RIP) and Syd Barrett. basically anyone who is schizophrenic is a good formula for funny. |

Generation X is sorta funny. (Unintentional?)
Shel Silverstein is friggin' great. (Wrote A Boy Named Sue and a bunch of Dr. Hook songs. His ancient live album, I'm So Good I Don't Have To Brag, is hilarious.)

Stereo Mix would be great. I normally listen to music at night, alone, on headphones - maybe it could come out on vinyl too. And yes, those songs are very tuneful; I agree. Thirty Five Thousand Feet of Despair is one of Coyne's all-time best songs, I think. Actually, song-wise, it's probably the Lips' best albums. 8 amazing songs. Not a single bad song on there...basically any random song could be my favorite on the album. |
