Am I ready for a break or what!!
We're off to Northumberland this weekend for a week long stay. Hopefully the view out of our beach side cottage should be like this:
Any tips on what to do, other than the usual dodge the tide Holy Island trip? I've heard that Cragside is pretty good. I think we may catch the train from Berwick to Edinburgh as well.

Nice picture BB, but I suspect it's a fake. Well, maybe the castle and the beach are English, but I'm pretty sure the sea and the sky are French. ;)

On June 19th I'm going for a 4 weeks trip to Mexico, and I can't wait. We're planning to visit Baja California
via Mazatlan
and I think I'm gonna like it.

they're definitely fakes. Everyone knows that it is permanently drizzly and foggy in Baja California. Better take your umbrella Denis.

OK I admit it! The first photo was taken near Inverness, Scotland, and the second one is the Port of Liverpool.

Scotland has the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen (OK, I haven't been to many countries, but still...). Trouble is, most of the time, it just looked like this:

I think that one is GORGEOUS! I love dramatic weather, and Scotland is the best for that.
Anyway, hopefully you all will have sun on your journeys. Consider me jealous!

Hey Barney - is that Dunstanburgh Castle? I went on a trip to Northumberland with some friends from Germany while I was studying in Sunderland -it was amazing, though not nearly as sunny as in that pic - but I think it was in the late fall. Holy Island was beautiful and spooky -we wandered around in the ruins of an old chapel, up the hill beside it, and watched the sunset. There was no artificial light anywhere on the island -beautiful place to take pictures.
I am pretty sure that this area was the same place where we found the Cafe/Pub carved into the face of the cliffs. That was the best pub I have ever been to. They had a parrot, but this was in 1994 -no idea who runs it now, but it was really friendly and fun as hell. There is a view of the rock formations out in the water, with all the tunnels worn into them from the surf. Some interesting people tend to collect at the top of the cliff, with self-made instruments and large wind-driven kinetic sculptures.
I took a lot of pictures of Dunstanburgh Castle (wasn't that where Polanski filmed his version of "Macbeth"?), but hardly anything turned out. If only I had had a digital camera!
edit: oh yeah, one of my friends found it was quite fun to photograph the cows - there was a cattle farm on the land below the castle - and after getting a close-up of one, she was chased a good distance back to the car.
