http://www.planetaryinvestments.com/
yeah, I thought it was some kind of horrid joke. But it looks like they are seriously trying to do this....sell land on THE MOON!
Do shameless profiteers know no bounds??? this is ridiculous. I got a huge kick out this part:
Your rights as a landowner include mineral rights. Many people ask if they can charge others if they land a spacecraft on their property. The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 clearly states the Moon and other celestial bodies are the heritage of all mankind for the purposes of exploration. So, NASA can land on or traverse across your property as long as they are exploring. However, if someone wants to build or drill for minerals on your property, that is quite a different issue.
There is nothing more Symbolic and Romantic on Earth one can give to a loved one. When you buy Lunar Property, you can look into the night sky and say, “I own a piece of that”.
So...let's translate this. You "own" the land but NASA can traverse it as they please. But, in the unlikely event that NASA decides to drill for minerals on your land, then you're safe as can be! After all, what cements one's status in society more than owning land on the moon! Furthermore, we are led to believe that there is something Symbolic and Romantic about the shameless profiteers and corporate fuckos with dollar signs in their eyes trying to sell you something they pretty much don't have ANY right to.
Let's start taking care of OUR planet before we start worrying about securing dominion over ANOTHER planetary body, for chrissake!

I would like to buy some property on Mars though. A nice acreage with a view of the Olympus Mons. Maybe Frank can be my neighbour?

I'm already ahead of the game. I'm building an ice-fishing cabin on Deimos. You're all invited.

Actually some time ago there was a seminar or something on space ownership. It was a UE funded thing. There was a debate on who has the owner rights to all sorts of extarterrestrial objects. The main question was: "Is the lunar surface property of the US since they are the only to have touched it?" and the debate continued on all space related property issues.

When I was looking for my property (which ultimately resulted in my purchase on Deimos), I considered asteroid land. Whatever you do, don't bother buying anything on Ceres. Since it's the biggest asteroid it's naturally too well known. Everyone and their brother will be there. Consider Vesta or Pallas. Both are a steal and relatively unknown, although the orbital eccentricity of Pallas could potentially present problems when planning a return to Earth. |

I just staked claim to the Kuiper belt. Yup, it's official. So get ready to pay a fee if you're leaving the solar system. I'm setting up toll booths there as we speak.

You know what you can do with your tollbooths! I don't need 'em. I've got everything I need on Deimos. |
