IMO, the White Stripes are to rock 'n' roll what the Power Rangers are to martial arts.

i don't know...

i've never seen them live, but there are some sonic moments of beauty on the recordings. mostly first record. second record takes artful sloppy to just sloppy, the exception being 7 nation army.

a different flavor of screaming on key.

you see no redemmable moments at all, tar tar?

also saw jw on letterman with loretta lynn. he was tasteful, if slightly out of tune.

warm wishes and fond regards,

betty

They have four albums Betty, of which Elephant (the one with 7 nation army) is the fourth.

I love them. I have seen them 3 times and I am gonna be seeing them again at Reading. He is VERY talented IMO. Great guitarist, great songwriter, great voice. Great.

Did you just want the chance to show off your hilarious simile, hmm Peter? ;)
I never liked them particularly, but neither do I dislike them. I saw them live at Ally Pally in London and they were pretty good, so I'm a bit more inclined towards them now. I don't own anything by them though, don't push it...

I like em' a lot but if I never hear Meg White sing again it'll be too soon, still a funny anology if applied to some other band though.

They rock, pure and simple. They're not extremely original...but who is, anyway? Rock as a form is a bastard child with no originality whatsoever.

I can usually kinda appreciate one song by them... maybe. If it's a good song and I'm in the mood for their style. But not a single song by them has really stuck out to me. The only songs I have any recollection of, after listening to them numerous times trying to grasp what the hype is, are ones that rip off other songs. Like "Fell In Love With A Girl" sounding like "Middle of the Road" by the Pretenders and another one having the same intro as "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana. Supposedly, a big hit they had recently sounds like a Cure song. And most of the other songs just sound like third-rate Zeppelin or Stones to me. And they seem to reuse a lot of the same riffs.

Most people whose opinion on music I consider who are big on the White Stripes dislike the Strokes, but the Strokes have one song that I really felt was a genuinely awesome song, "12:51". I thought that song was killer.

megs drumming makes me think of a 12 year old downsy kid running behind a marching band feverishly smashing cymbals together.

Everyone I know who like The White Stripes, likes The Strokes. Myself included.

The song who's intro sounds like the intro to Heart Shaped Box is 'I Can't Wait' and it's one of my favourites. Despite being a very average drummer, I love Megs drum part on that song.
