Howdy.

I joined this place today. I'm a film student with nothing to do this term.. so er, I think I may spend a lot of my time here.

I'm also English, 5' 8", and a big Pixies/Catholics fan. Hello

Ok, my queston is as follows:

What kind of music do you guys listen to when Frank is off your Stereo?

Maybe this detracts from the whole point of this freakin' forum, but it'll help me put Frank in context - 'gainst other musical tastes..

The Pixies remain my all time favourite band, but other artists of interest are Tim Buckley, Frank Zappa, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Van M, Hendrix, Nilisson,Franz Ferdinand and Blink 182.

Nah, just kidding about Blink ;)

But you catch my drift.. post your musical inclination.

I usually divy my time between Alkaline Trio, Archers of Loaf, Crooked Fingers, Frank Black (and the Catholics), Misfits, Pixies, Radiohead, Rocket from the Crypt, They Might Be Giants and Travis. I listen to a lot of others too, just not as often as the fore mentioned.

My favorite band is TMBG, and I don't think I would have gotten into Frank without having liked them first. Other favorites, in alphabetical order, are Tori Amos, Belle and Sebastian, Blur, Camper Van Beethoven, Neko Case, Cracker, Ben Folds, Hypnotic Clambake, Tom Lehrer, the Magnetic Fields, the Minus Five, Moxy Früvous, the Posies, the Sugarplastic, XTC, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and the Young Fresh Fellows.

I exclusively listen to Beethoven.

It's our tradition to control, Like Erich Honecker and Helmut Kohl, From the Ukraine to the Rhône. Sweet home über alles, Lord, I'm coming home. So come on, Sugar Daddy, bring me home.

I'm with you all the way on TMBG. They're my other favorite. Not quite as much as Pixies, but if I decided to get another tattoo, in addition to my Pixies one, it'd be a TMBG tattoo, which is a strong possibility. I second the Camper Van Beethoven vote as well, but am surprised to not see Ween on your list. They're basically my top four bands right there. That and my band. I guess I find us in my stereo a bit, too. I'm critical in that respect. But yeah, that's what visits my disc changer when the Pixies aren't around.

Hello again, good to hear some responses... I didn't know where Frank 'sat' in terms of popular music. Not knowing anyone else personally who likes FB i wasn't sure how he was perceived these days.. country or Prog rock/alternative.. Now I see the latter is true.

Well I'm a northerner ;) (live in Leeds) but I'm currently studying down here in canterbury, Kent. For the weather :)

For those of you who felt utterly let down by the misleading title of this thread, here's a crap picture I made of a giant fire breathing camel terrorising Manhattan...

Now I'm off to write the screenplay :)

For ten thousand years he slept, his mind feeding on the nightmares of the weak. Now he has awakened. As the night turned crimson, the fire-blade shattered and his power died. Then, the slaughter began...

Crooked Fingers are killer. I have Red Devil Dawn and the Reservoir Songs EP. I think I actually like the RS EP more, and it's all covers... but awesome covers. From beginning to end, there's not a bad moment on that EP. Red Devil Dawn is great, too, but I don't like all the songs equally. But Eric Bachmann rules!

You really need the first two albums. RS is fantastic for covers, but Bachmann's originals are so ethereal and haunting. When I saw them last spring in Hoboken they covered Dylan (I'll Keep it with Mine), Van Morrison (Them - My Lonely Sad Eyes), Springsteen (Promised Land) and Echo and the Bunnymen (Bring on the Dancing Horse). Incredible. Bring ont he Snakes is my fav. YOu should check out some old Archers of Loaf too.
