I've been listening to a very interesting compilation album, on the Autres Directions In Music label, entitled 'The Noise & The City'. Its composed entirely of field recordings taken by various electronic artists in the cities where they live, and processed to come up with a piece of music reminiscent of the city in question and in the style of the artist. Its fascinating and beautiful so far. If you're interested, its freely downloadable, plus loads of info, from here: http://autresdirections.net/inmusic/moulin008/moulin008.html

From the aforementioned "Rock Art + the X-Ray Style," which can almost always be heard on repeat in the Kathryn home, "Diggin' the new." Sample lyric:
"Crashing head-on into the future it won't even leave a dent just walk in like you own it remember, it ain't set in cement
you gotta live in this world, live in this world go diggin' the new........"
Rest in peace, Joe!

Some band called Smoosh. This is funny, they are only 12 and 9. Two sisters, one plays drums, the other sings and plays keyboards. They have supported Pearl Jam and Jimmy Eat World and have had bands such as Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab and Cat Power come to see their shows. If they really do write their own stuff then they are certainly very talented for that age. It's amazing really. I have downloaded most of their album, and it's just fascinating to hear people this age produce listenable music. |
