Being British I am stereotypically obsessed with the weather. However, the days of moaning about gloomy grey pissy weather seem to be becoming more and more infrequent. We're not getting anything like the number of rainy days that we used to, winter temperatures are way higher than when I was a youth (granted that I lived in North Wales then) and we hardly get snow anymore. I'm fairly sure that our electronic temperature thingy that we have poking through our kitchen wall didn't get any lower than - 2 degrees C during last winter.
We even had our first BBQ of the year on the 24th April - it was 22 degrees C that day and the kids were in the paddling pool in the garden all day!
To cap it all we planted a couple of olive trees in our front garden in the summer of 2002. I half expected them to struggle through the first winter and then slowly die over an extended painful period. Bollocks to that though, they have thrived. We even had a few mature olives on each tree by Autumn 03. If that isn't an indication of weird hot house weather then I'm a monkey's uncle.
To quote Withnail, I think the 21st century is going to be very unusual (sic). I'm looking forward to seeing The Day after tomorrow at the pictures when it opens. I love disaster porn.

By 'eck, back when I were a lad, we 'ad proper winters then, me boy, let me tell you. 'Twould freeze brass monkeys, tha knaws.
Richard, don't tell me you're Welsh as well? The list piles up.
I think though, its all good. I love the hot weather, last summer was bliss. If this is global warming then maybe we should revoke the Kyoto agreement as well.
I'm just kidding obviously, but these are strange days we live in when you can grow olives in Lincoln. Richard, you have my address, feel free to send me some high quality extra-virgin.
Olive oil, obviously.

Hey Simon, you're welcome to some extra virgin but it would have to be transported in a pipette as we only harvested about 12 olives.
Just remember the gulf stream. I watched the Horizon programme again the other day. We have two alternatives for the UK.
No.1 scenario - South of France temperatures within the next 50 years.
No.2 scenario - the gulf stream shuts down and we turn into Alaska.
I think I would prefer option 1.

| I live in Wisconsin which is nice and cold in the winter. I think I have problems though, because every summer I wish I was in Alaska or Antarctica. (Probably has something to do with my car's a/c being broken.) Can't even begin to imagine how hot it is closer to the equator. I hate summer days, but love summer nights. |

I hate people (in general, not you specifically) from other countries who complain about the heat. Actually, I'll include Brits as well. Hot weather rules, it gives you an excuse to not do anything.
Believe me klikger, if you lived in the UK, you'd be glad of any chink of sunlight that breaks through. I'd so much rather option 1, because given our latitude we'd still get really long hot summer nights, as well as citrus-growing daytimes. All good.
I couldn't handle living somewhere where it got dark at like 6pm all year round, it would be depressing.

I have noticed the same changes Bedrock. Especialyl the drop in rainfall.
'The Day After Tomorrow' comes out on 28th May.
