Here's a review of WOM in Logo magazine. I very much respect this writer.
http://www.logo-magazine.com/albums/display.asp?AlbumID=3206

The Pixies. Where would rock be without them? Answer, as Spinal Tap might have it: nowhere. Maybe we’d be sitting round discussing how Metallica are still doing it ‘for the kids’ after so long, or whether Jet honestly deserve to be at number one for six months. Maybe the indie kids would still be sitting around waiting for J Mascis to get off his sofa and save rock. Think about it, most of what we now know as alternative rock has sprung from the stop-start, loud-quiet, scream-whisper blueprint of the Pixies, via a legion of imitators (some worthier than others), just wouldn’t exist. Nirvana, Jim, but not as we know them. It’s pretty well redundant to say that the Pixies were influential, or even to say that they were one of the most important bands of the eighties, if not ever. However, anybody that has only experienced wafts of their impact like second-hand smoke through a barrage of filters, will find something truly revolutionary here. The Pixies’ songs have an intense power of their own even after fifteen years of dilution, and ‘Wave Of Mutilation’ is as good a place to start as any. Kicking off with David Lovering’s Albini-powered drums on ‘Bone Machine’, this new compilation, while adding nothing new for existing fans, serves as an ideal introduction to the crazy world of Thompson, Deal and co. Vaguely chronological, it takes in some of the band’s finest moments, from ‘Caribou’ to ‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’ to ‘Planet Of Sound’, via the obvious-but-always-welcome ‘Debaser’ and less-obvious-but-just-as-stunning B-Side ‘Into The White’. The latter is up there with ‘Gigantic’ as Kim Deal’s greatest contribution to the world, even taking into account her Breeders work. So, nothing new for fans, but a great place to start an addiction - be warned, the price of one CD could end up costing more like the price of six.

The website is OK, but the printed mag (which this review should also appear in) is excellent. It started as a local rag for the South Coast but has become one of the best sources for new music info in the UK, which is pretty cool.

Benji if you read this, there's a review of Silver Mt Zion finally up, by yours truly, at www.noripcord.com

Who are you kidding in that review Cheeseman, doesn't the price of one CD usually end up costing more like the price of the entire Pixies, Frank Black, and Breeders catalogs? Cuz that's what happened to me. And now that I think about it, that new Martinis cd has a couple pretty good songs on it too. Great job on the review, the truth at last.

Hate to break this to you, but FB wrote Into The White... but I do agree on the awesomeness therein.

Alright alright. But Ms Deal sung it, and it is therefore a contribution to music of hers, right?

Watch it Dean, you're cruising...

I'll give you a hard time Dean... in the face!

Heh heh, its amazing how almost any sentence can be arranged to sound threatening just be adding those three words on the end.

Damn you and your caveats! I was all ready to prove you wrong by putting "... in the face!" at the end of a non-threatening sentence, but you had to go and say "almost any sentence". :)

See? Not threatening. Well, actually, on second thought... :)

Depends on who says it i guess. If its you, its less threatening than plain scary... in the face!

OK, that one doesn't work.

Alright, consider me sold. I will now stoop to utilizing it whensoever I cannot come up with a quip/witty rejoinder.

"Oh, you can have the ketchup... in the face!"

Incidentally, most of my travel destinations are only reachable via X-wing, too. We could car pool. You bring the X-wing, I'll pay for gas.

I generally just use my X-Wing for shorter journeys, for longer ones I sometimes take the Y or for special occasions the Imperial Shuttle thats just sitting in the garage.
Anyway, my R2 is broken at the moment, so its a bit touch and go.

I took hyperspace plotting in uni, so no worries about the R2. I wouldn't take the y on any long trips though, they're so slow. Better the opulence of an Imperial Shuttle. My uncle put a keg cooler in his, makes for some pretty short hops. If I ever get a shuttle, I'm going to have a jam space in there. And we can have a mobile recording studio and record 'on the road'.

And this has officially become the geekiest thread on FB.Net. <takes bow>

Heh heh, Live At The Budokan, Io.
I'm thinking about a TIE, but not sure whether to go for the fighter or bomber options. I hear the air-con is better on the bomber, but the traction control on the fighter is ace. When I start a family, of course, I plan to invest in something like a Death Star Mark II, plenty of room for things in there. I have long legs you see, I need the room. I hear the storage space is pretty good too.
