Yeah, what do you think about us? Not Jacques Chirac, but the French, the people who invented the human rights, the Concorde, the high-speed train, the Camembert, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The nation that liberated half of Europe with Napoleon, that courageously fought the nazis for at least a week, that gave birth to Baudelaire and Serge Gainsbourg, and adopted Beckett and Kundera...

Pretty nice guys, ha?

I agree with you, BLT, our beer sucks!

I had a debate with a friend of mine yesterday, and the conclusion was that the best country for beer is definitely Belgium.

i agree with you Adnan, Beligan beer is probably the ultimate.

i actually don't hate the french by the way. i've had some rude encounters with Parisians, but i forgive them. i think you should add Jacques Dutronc to your list of "why French are cool"

I must quote the film Killing Zoe. Unfortunately, I only have the script for reference, but it's pretty close to what's said in the film. This takes place in France. Eric is the head bank robber, and his accomplices and him have plenty of customers/hostages sitting around while they're trying to get things together during the robbery. One of the hostages decides to speak up.

MALE TOURIST
(holding up his passport)
This is insane! I am a U.S. citizen!
You must let me go!

Eric looks at him.

MALE TOURIST
I'm an American! American! I'm just
here exchanging dollars. If it wasn't
for my country you'd all be speaking
German!

Eric is tired of this outburst, he shoots him.

Hahahaha, great scene. An American tries to say that France owes America, and Eric's just like, "Whatever."

Yeah, we're like that, in France. Tell us we owe you something, and we'll shoot you. It's the fucking Far West here.

And in Killing Zoe, there is the beautiful Julie Delpy, who unfortunately lives in LA now.

Limited experience. I am reserving judgement until further exposure, and until then basically sticking with the brand recognition of all the really bad stereotypes. Present company excluded (well, some of you).

Its wicked to hate that many people at once.

And that play Wicked about the wicked witch of the west, is pretty good. Yeah, I like some broadway plays. Avenue Q was cool. De la Guarda was zany. Problem with it? Fuck off.

The french are ok. There's a diner on broadway that I like cause they actually put the fruit inside your pancakes instead of just pouring preserves on top. The waitress is an exremely cute french woman. Early twenties. Short blond hair. Delightful accent. She looks a little like julie delpy

warm....warmer.....disco!

Close but no cigar. I think you must be referring to Kronenbourg 1664. Not a bad beer at all. And you get to play silly games on thier website:

Ahem...didn't we have a piece of the concorde action?? I'm sure we designed the landing gear or the tail fin or something. I think the tail fin alone cost £500 million.

I was pretty much tongue-in-cheek when talking about the French "superiority", Barney. I think that the Concorde (RIP) is as much welsh as it is french

1667 is a French beer, I don't like it that much. The only French beer i like is Fischer, from Alsace. Actually, I'm currently drinking it.

1667? I guess you mean 1664...

Although I prefer (red) wine by far, I must say Alsacians produce some excellent beers. Meteor is my fave, but I also love traditional beers like the bière de Noël and the bière de Mars. Know them, Ad?

Beer-drinking people here need to taste Jenlain, Trois-Monts, Goudale or Pietra (Corsican beer, so YES it counts as French), to name but a few. That should put some on the path to Light and Truth as far as beer is concerned.
And I'm with my pal Frog (thanks for the wishes man, that was mucho appreciated!) on the biere de Noel and biere de mars. They're usually very nice.
The Irish also count among my favourite people, beer-wise. And I must say the Kiwis are not bad at all. (And they also make good wine, Frog! You'd love it there!)

Yeah, the 1664, I copied the name floop wrote without noticing the mistake (people call it "la seize").

La bière de Noël is very good, but you cannot really say it's a brand. I like Fischer very much, as well as Guiness, and of course Kriek and Delirium Tremens.

Chimay

a fine, fine Belgian beer!

I love the French, but there is too much dog shit on the streets of Paris, people! Then again, having lived in Athens for six years I became quite accustomed to grimy streets.

Serge Gainsbourg left us alot of songs, a few films, a novel, and Charlotte.
I love them all. Especially love "Je t'aime moi non plus(film)", "Marilou sous la neige (song)".
His album "L'homme a tete de chou" is so cool, I think. Do you think so too?

You could leave Kundera at home. And you deserve being bombed for inventing such a horror as the Camembert. But you did some good stuff too. My girlfroend and........ Well i'm sure you did something else that deserves mentioning.

I must say that i hate the French language. I studied French for 6 years at school and i'm traumatized, maybe because my prof was a frustrated dwarve(though it may sound strange it's true, she was 90cm tall).

The French are conservative, cynical, egocentric and grumpy. But I don't know why, I'm quite happy to live here. Well, generally.

As I always say, France is my wife and America is my mistress. When I feel tired and weary, when I need peace, space, warmth, enthusiasm and inspiration, I fly to the US, where I usually resurrect in 4 to 6 weeks. Then I'm willing to enjoy France again.

Life is so simple when you know what you need and where you can find it.
