I was wondering if anyone knew what songs Kim brought to the Pixies and were rejected. Im guessing that the majority of the songs on Pod were attempted Pixies songs, just because it is the Breeders first album, but I don't know. Has anyone ever heard for sure or have their own take on the whole thing.

Some Pod songs would be fucking amazing Pixies songs. Don't know what's the reason to reject it. Francis ego, perhaps?

i never really thought of it as like, her actually showing the band some of her songs, either by playing demos of her own she'd recorded or on the guitar. i always thought it was like, she didn't even feel she had the freedom to do that and that any little ideas in frank's songs she had were dismissed, or something.

Isn't there a quote from frank somewhere saying that kim did bring some songs into practice but the other band members just sorta looked at each other

ya some Pod songs would be great Pixies songs, but they are also great Breeders songs. Kim could write songs for my band any day. Kim call me.

The Breeders pre-dated the Pixies originally, so I would think most of the Pod or Safari songs were written as Breeders songs by design..

Its just like pavement, granted Kanneberg (is that his name?) did write enough songs for pavement but malkmus was the predominant writer. 3 songs were rejected by pavement so he used them for all this sounds gas. Those 3 songs are fuckin great (all ended up being singles) they stick out like a sore thumb on a pretty average album. So my point is.......

I know it's not a common opinion amongst Pavement fans, but I feel like Spiral Stairs ended up writing some of the best Pavement songs. Date W/ Ikea, Hit the Plane Down, Your Time to Change, Painted Soldiers, Preston School of Industry. Those songs are all great. And Kennell District and Western Homes are pretty good, though I think Kennell District would have benefited from a different approach to recording because it could've sounded a lot better. I don't think Spiral has the same amount of craftsmanship as Malkmus as a songwriter, but I think he's damn good. Falling Away from his Preston School of Industry band is catchy as hell. He can write a good song.
