The oldschool alt rock album to relive this summer or what? I am sorry but I fucking love that album. It is so great and it has an amazingly modern sound considering when it was recorded. Let me know what you think, including your faves off Bossanova.

Bossanova is my alltime favourite album
I love the surf guitars
I love the production
I love the vocals
I love the theramin
I love everything about it
and
I hate the way the Gouge Documentary on the DVD
handeled this superb album

I got rid of all my Pixies CDs a long time ago. If I were to ever buy one back it would be Bossanova.
On a side note, I remember getting into The Fastbacks just because in the Spin Alternative Record Guide (published in 1995 or so) Kurt Bloch put Bossanova at # 1 in his top 10 list. |

of the songs
every song ending sounds like they put a lot
of thought in it (not saying they did)
it sounds so smart
no simple endings just great endings
even if it ends with a bang
it's a great bang

| I think my next little roadtrip this summer will have to be kicked off by rolling down the windows and cranking up Bossanova. I wish I had this album with me when I was cruising up and down the Pacific Highway (is that what it's called) this last fall. And yeah, I find it hard to believe that any of the Pixies albums were recorded any earlier than a week ago. All of it is so unbelievably relavent and doesn't feel like the 80's/early 90's at all. It's like, rather than recent bands ripping of the Pixies and doing a shitty job, recent bands have made shitty songs and the Pixies said "we can do it better than that." Bossanova is a prime example. *Hold on, starting up the album...* Nobody had made anything like it before or afterward. It's fucking brilliant. They're all brilliant. Thanks for inspiring me to play the album right now. |

I love this album too! And Trompe le Monde as well!! I will post this everywhere as necessary in the event that Frnck Blck pops up and reads some posts here... I love the old stuff too, but really hope the add some of the later stuff in their setlists this fall.

I'm more of a Frank solo/Frank with Catholics fan, though I like the Pixies, too.
For me, the Pixies records are like the Beatles. I enjoy them all, but I've heard all those albums over and over again to the point where I don't really feel I need to put them on again. That's just me, though. Maybe if those vinyl reissues ever happen I'll get those. Vinyl I tend to keep.
I lied about getting rid of them all, actually. I did keep the 'At the BBC' CD and I have the Minneapolis Disclive thing. |

4 words: ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! The "All I am" parts, especially "All I am, are all my thoughts" just get me. Very moving, in a "Monkey Gone to Heaven" kind of way. I also love "Cecilla Ann", "Rock Music", "ANA", "Dig for Fire", and "Havalina" is a beautiful and brilliant end to the record. It takes a few listens, but you'll love it.
p.s. I also like "The Happening", but I prefer "The Thing". If anything, I think they should've made them 2 seperate songs. (Oh wait, they did. But not on the album.)

GOD I JUST CAN'T GET OVER BLOWN AWAY FOR ALL YOU WHO DROPPED IT, whoah sorry for all the caps...
Anyway, I really like the comment about the album sounding smart and full of thought. That is a great thing, especially when there is a spark as awesome as those four to begin with, when you actually get more thought and production yu get such a clean, cool sound. I am really dismayed to see the lack of representation of Bossanova on the tour, but I do understand why. Not my preference, If I had it my way Gigantic would be stricken from the record, and I love Kim!!! Plus less rep of Bossanova just goes to show how much more of a truly underground and much more understood only by the true fans the album is!

For the longest time, Bossanova was my favorite Pixies album. I think it's my favorite album again...even though there are songs I don't care for on it (Allison, Dig For Fire), overall it's just an amazing album.
The first three tracks just kick you in the balls...Rock Music is fucking amazing. Some of Frank's off the cuff, meaningless lyrics really grab me, such as "I'm already gone." All Over The World is an epic in the same vein as Motorway...the ending is probably one of the most poignant moments on any Pixies album (much like the end of Sad Punk, cascading rock bliss with melodic, guitar-driven beauty). Blown Away is one of the best tracks on the album; it rocks in a way you can't explain (much like 1826). Love it or hate it, Stormy Weather's repetative nature locks itself in your brain and never goes away. Havalina provides a beautifully blissful ending to an amazing album.

| Bossanova was the first Pixies album I had, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I bought it for $1 at a garage sale and it turned me on to one of the greatest bands ever. I've lately been listening to mostly Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. It IS a great summer album, too. Last summer and this summer it's gotten more play than any other CD that I own. It really makes me wish that I were on the beach with a drink in my hand. |

I listened to TLM 3 times last week. Its a great CD, cant imagine why the band is avoiding it and Bossanova on tour. |

| I think that there's a coherence on the first three albums that isn't there on Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. Although there are a few songs that are reworkings of earlier Pixies compositions, the latter two albums feel more like Frank Black works. Don't get me wrong - I love his stuff, and he was still very much the dominant composer on the first albums. On these albums the rest of the musicians seem less involved, although their musicianship is certainly there. Perhaps there is simply a shorter period of time between composition and final recording. The band played the tunes he wrote for the first albums many more times live before they were released. I don't know - it's something - the tunes are there, but it seems there's less of a synergy than on the earlier albums. I like them both a lot, but I adore the first three Pixies albums. |

| Good album. Favorite songs include Rock music, Blown Away, and Allison. But if I'm going to be honest, I'd have to say it's my least favorite of their major releases. And a couple songs like Down to the Well, and Is She Weird?, sound better on other releases(Live at the BBC). |

Cecilia Ann---The very start of the song reminds me of a garage door opening with the album flying out the entrance. It also feels like the climax to a space-western. A great opening.
Rock Music--One of my favorite Lovering drumbeats. This song is the title; always makes me dance, jump around, engage in air guitaring/drumming.
Velouria--The song that took the longest for me to appreciate. I used to skip it all the time; now I really enjoy the transition from the end of Rock Music to this song. It rocks but in a very unique way (which pretty much somes up the Pixies).
Allison--Amazing. Short fast, fun. One of my favorites.
Is She Weird--One of my all time favorite songs. I love this version, I love the version from the BBC, I love the live bootleg versions (pre-reunion, I haven't heard how they're doing it now). The repetition of "like the stars & the sun" is heavenly. For a short period of time in 98, I'd bring this disc to parties and slip it in the player, and hit this track and dance around.
Ana--Perfect placement for this one; it's such a soothing song, so dreamy, floating away...
All Over the World--Surfer and Trompe (my fave) both have epic songs (Vamos & Motorway) but this album has two. This is the first. Dear Lord, what a song! Such a cool spacey groove that's constantly bisected by Joey's guitar...Jesus. It's like another song crashing into this one, two melodies fighting it out and it works and it's brilliant. All my thoughts does the impossible; it takes the listener even higher. Another song title that sums up the song perfectly, the whole of it, the song feels like traveling. Sometimes it gives me chills.
Dig For Fire--At first (and many listens after) a weaker number that grew on me over time. The guitar sounds jaunty,the drums nice and heavy, the lyrics are upbeat, the whole song's upbeat. It's a good song. I've been enjoying more and more the past couple days and might just be loving it. I love that both characters in the song that the singer is addressing are digging for fire but what that means is completely up to the listener.
Down to the Well--It feels like Dig For Fire's frightening brother. There's a real sense of menace to this one; menace and promise, though I'm not sure if the latter directly correlates to the former. A river inside her bones is a great line. Not one of my favorites but fits the flow of the album perfectly.
The Happening--Epic #2. I love how the heavy part of the song gives way to the Frank & Kim heavenly choir. The ending is one of greatest moments to any song ever, it's hope & promise and excitement; I can see Black Francis driving to see our interstellar visitors, I can feel him driving there, can feel the anticipation building, we're riding it out with him, to go and say hello. Wow. Another chill-enducer.
Blown Away--The bit with what sounds like a tinkertoy piano rising up out of the rocking chaos is brilliant. A great rockin' song.
Hang Wire--Another song that pumps one up.
Stormy Weather--I like the slow opening that picks up, the repetition, a nice penultimate number.
Havalina--A perfect closer.
Overall the entire album feels like a reflection of itself, the first half from Cecilia Ann to Ana being mirrored by All Over the World to Havalina; Ana and Havalina the bookends. All of the Pixie's Albums have a great flow, one song fitting perfectly next to its brothers and sisters. The album design is awesome, too.
A great, great album.

| Bossanova has high points on it that are among my favorite Pixies songs of any. Overall, I liked Trompe better in its entirety because it seemed as though each song was perfectly formed, had fascinating guitar tracks, and buzzed like a power saw track to track. That was also the only Pixies tour I was able to catch the first time around. It seemed to me like these two albums saw the evolution into just a more "produced" sound which I personally like better than the early sound. |

I have to say that Bossanova is my favorite Pixies album. There's just a grand, awe-inspiring, other-worldly sound to most of the songs, and it seems to be the most cohesive work by the Pixies. Even the songs that aren't as great as the others ("Down To The Well," sometimes "Stormy Weather") still fit really well into the big picture. "Velouria" might be my favorite Pixies song ever, and "All Over The World" comes close.

Actually, Bossanova was the first Pixies CD I heard, so imagine my surprise when the rest of their albums were so much different from it. |

I never knew who the Pixies were until I bought Bossonova by accident. I was at a party and was listening to some music and this guy said it was the Pixies (it was really Janes Addiction). Well the next day I ran to the store and asked for the Pixies and the lady said "here you go, this was just released yesterday" and handed me the Bossonova cassette(yes you heard right, cassette) and I ran home and played it and said "who the F%ck is this!?!?" I thought I'd been screwed. Well no returns accepted on open music, and within a couple of days I was hooked, and pleased to hear that this wasn't their only album. So here I am roughly 14 years later still suckered in by faithful mixup. Life is a funny thing.
Oh by the way I eventually got the Jane's CD, Nothing Shocking. How could anyone ever get these groups mixed up? |

| Maybe they're different kinds of coherence. There are different things on each Pixies album that can make you say "this is why they were the best at what they did." Vamos feels like such a loose song, but it really exhibits some of their tightest moments. Space (I Believe In) does the same thing in a different way. As if from their first album to their last they were saying "we know exactly what we're doing but we don't care." Maybe in their earlier albums they were toying around with coherence, and towards the end they were showing coherence who's the boss, which would be strengthened by the fact that they were having more fun with the first few albums and the last couple were really business-like. |

this ablum is the closest i'll get to knowing what that whole woman-multiple orgasm thing is like.
it just doesnt let up. I once said "Bossanova is the only pixies album i could do without" ...i dont understand how the hell i ever thought that...end to end it's fucking brilliant...im so glad to see others feel the same.

I agree that Bossanova is the Pixies best. For me All Over The World is one of my favourite songs ever.
