i'd like to add moon and antartica (along with good news...) as great places to start also!

Here is some info on modest mouse...

they are from Issaquah, Washington, and released their first cd, this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, in 1996.

they have released 7 total cd's. like some others, i would recommend lonesome crowded west or moon and antartica for beginners, but all 7 are great.

also, for modest mouse fans, check out isaac brock's solo album under the name UGLY CASANOVA. The cd is called Sharpen Your Teeth, and if you like modest mouse you will love this cd. I would rank it just behind lonesome crowded west and moon and antartica, its that good.

..modest mouse will be on the jimmy kimmel show on june 11.

one thing one has to except when listening to modest mouse is that brock has a style of his own(lyrical rhythm, guitar flourishes, melodic patterns), and this style may at first make a lot of their songs sound the same. after a few listens, however, any negative feelings toward this get lost.

that being said, does anyone else think that 'the world at large' and 'float on' are companion pieces? they seem to be tightly connected in melody and lyrics. thus, it seems weird to me that they'd release 'the world at large' as their second single, seeing as how(at least to me) they are sort of the same song. does this make sense?

i had a dream a few weeks ago in which i was having a drunk conversation about the greatness of 'the good times are killing me' in regards to the flaming lips basically being its backing band.

I think The World At Large and Float On are meant to be paired, cause yeah, they have the same chord progression I believe.

I tried to get hold of the new one (not out till July 12th) and any old ones but it seems no where in my hometown has a single MM cd which was disappointing. Had to make do with inches by les savy fav. My god their videos are poo.

I just got this, and it's my first Modest Mouse record, and I'm loving it. The World at Large and Float On are amazing, and I love the Devil's Workday and the View. I'm very, very impressed.

i can't remember who recommended it, but along with getting good news, i ordered building something out of nothing too, both arrived today, although i'd heard most of the tracks on the latter, it's fucking fantastic listening to it now! there's one song that seems to never end, and go on a little too long, but apart from that, a beautiful album!

(proudly wearing his very cool modest mouse t-shirt)

[edit] oh it was Skatealex1 who recommended it, many thanks!

I would hate to be the bass player for modest mouse. I would fall asleep because this is how they write a song: find two chords, and repeat them for 6 minutes, maybe alter the sung phrases.

Thank you frank black forum. All of you...who like modest mouse. This album is great, the good times are killing me is such a great gentle song. The lyrics to bury me with it...genuis. The view, dance hall etc etc I could go on.
