Frank's worked with David Lovering (in the Pixies), Nick Vincent (FB), Scott Boutier (FB & the Catholics), and now Anton Figg.
Though we haven't heard Honeycomb, I am just curious as to what everyone's opinions are regarding FB drummers. Call me stupid, but I like to hear everyone's opinions.
I personally like Nick Vincent the best. Case in point: "Parry the Wind High, Low", "Two Reelers", and "Whatever Happened to Pong". |

i like Nick Vincent a lot too, but something about Scott Boutier is really rock solid. Plus, i love his fills on "Blast off" - i think its a Nick/Scott tie

its bob giusti i think on czar - tony maimone isn't even a drummer - he was fb's touring bassplayer for a few tours and a pere ubu alumnus.

That's a tough one because I love David Lovering's drum fills and unique style.Nick Vincent uses a simple drum kit but rocks like any other great drummer.I particularly like his choruses along with Eric Feldman specially during Frank's live appearance on MTV promoting TOTY.Czar is one of my top 5 songs ever,so kudos to the guy on that one.Scott has rocked our souls with his perfect timekeeping and solid drum fills. And because I got heavily into music because of Kiss,I know Anton Figg will do an admirable job with Frank's Music.Anton played on Ace Frehley's 1st solo album(killer drumming!!!) and has done some other session recordings with Kiss. He's Letterman's band drummer what more can you say!!! |

SCOTT BOUTIER! His work on the "Dog in the Sand" (especially "Blast Off") and "Show Me Your Tears" albums are killer. As well as all the other Catholics albums and "Cult of Ray".

Lovering. Perhaps he isn't the best drummer on Earth, but he's a funny guy.

sorry, but he did cover on the drums quite a few times, saw him playing, then chatted with him after a show in 93. |

sorry, when I say 'covering', that means the person is playing something they dont necessarily play usually or on the album.....but when nick vincent is not touring, and they need someone to play drums that does not usually....it is termed 'covering'....as in "cover for me".....it is clear to most but not to some obviously. Its like when Eric Drew sometimes/ rarely tours with frank,he's on keys, and yet when he is not there, rich will often cover him on the same damn instrument....how about that? huh? |

i completely understand that...BUT...that still begs the question of who would play bass on the tour, show, whatever, when maimone is on the kit

Nick Vincent only plays drums on I Don't Want to Hurt You Every Single Time; Scott does all the other songs on Cult. |

Good thing this thread reappeared, cause I wanted to create one about the drummers on Honeycomb. Sing For Joy has some of the best drumming I've heard on a FB song. Who plays on that one, anyone knows? On the whole album the drumming is tasteful, I love it.

Anton is on "Sing For Joy."
Remember there are 3 other drummers represented on HONEYCOMB, Billy Block, Chester Thompson, and Chester's son Akil Thompson.
I am very partial to Nick Vincent as well, GREAT drummer.
bye, Jon Tiven |

dave lovering. i dunno.. it's probably because i'm fond of all the pixies (including lovering), whereas with all of frank's post-pixies stuff, it's been more about him and not his backing people.
Oh let it linger |

Is'nt it "...the drummer of fifteen toms there."? I could be wrong but I like to think it's a reference to Neil Peart. Mmm, and I gotta say Nick for me. But Scotts work on "I need Peace" always makes me cream my jeans. He's a master of nuance drumming. |

No I didn't. But no wonder I thought it was the most rocking song of '97....Nick was on it. Well since I stood corrected on the Nick/Cult thing, my favourite might now be Scott.
hmmm.....bop! No. Still Nick. |

Yeah, Nick Vincent's drumming is fabulous, almost goes without saying!
I do adore Lovering's playing as well. Really full of character, if that isn't too pretentious to say? |

Lovering is definately a fave, not just because he was in the Pixies. Nothing too showy that detracted from the song, but some very interesting phrasing and fills, I mean... BONE MACHINE! Backward drums! Dunno if he came up with that himself, but it's hella cool.
He did/does slow down a little during songs when playing live though. But not aaaaaaaall the time.
