I just heard it from the 2nd show they''ve played recently, and i must say i prefer it immensely to other versions with frank singing. Is this the first case of kim singing it,or has she been known to before?

I have never heard Kim sing it until they took the stage in Minneapolis. Personally, I like it much better than the Frank-singing version, just like you. It is eerie in a way, and much more beautiful.

I was about to make this same thread. Kim's version of "In Heaven" just sounds... right.

I just heard this on the Minny Live show. It was awesome. Such a contrast to BF's version. Even the music seemed to be done in a more positive note. Not that BF's in negitive. Can't say which one I prefer, Kim's is just newer. |

It's just generally a softer mellower(?) song without franks harsh screams, not that theres anything at all wrong with franks screaming

See now I'm in kind of two minds about this one. On the one hand - Kim's voice suits the song so perfectly, and on the other a part of me really wants to hear Frank tear through the "and I've got mine" part of the song like he does on the Gigantic single

Yeah, I agree. I was expecting him to join in with her and tear that song to shreds, but it stays soft. It's just begging for that "I've got mine" part to crash in. But it's cool to have it as a medley with Wave, sort of like a new song.

It almost makes you wonder if they've been trying to cook up anything else new in the rehearsals.
I mean, imagining a cross between Title TK and SMYT is pretty difficult to do, but imagining them drenched in Joey's unmistakable guitar screech... it's an other-worldly idea.

I like it a lot more with Frank's screams personally, but it sounds a lot more like the movie version with Kim, not that it really matters.

i like both versions. seeing kim sing it live in spokane was breathtaking.....and i loved the immediate jump into wave of mutilation on the last note of in heaven. the first two verses with just kim singing and playing bass, and then the third verse with subtle rythm guitar is a nice build-up.

I was in Minneapolis when they first played it and I absolutely loved the reaction from the audience. Even though Kim started singing pretty soon in the song, it felt like an eternity while she and Joey vamped the beginning. Everybody had this look of "is this a new fucking song? I've never heard this. What IS this?!!" Unless you know it's In Heaven, it bears practically no semblence to the earlier version. So I thought the reaction to the song was almost as priceless as the song itself. And it does plant that seed of wonder regarding new material. They could have easily turned that rewrite into a new song. I get shivers down my spine every time I listen to it.

I dig Kim Deal's singing that song! I liked when Black Francis sang it but Kim makes the song sexy and I like that. |

They're so different it's like two different songs. They ought to play both versions! I like them both for almost opposite reasons. |
