Recently listening to "Where is my Mind?", I realized I couldn't tell what was being said during a certain part of the song. Here's the part:
"I was swimming in the Carribean Animals were hiding behind the rock Except the little fish (here's where I start to loose it) But they told me he swears (perhaps east west?) Ttrying to talk to me (some nonsense, possibly "to me, to me very quickly?).
Anyway, can anyone help me out?

I think I saw it somewhere as "coy koi," which would make sense, I suppose.

I think you've got it right, actually, wasteofo2.
I don't think there's anything carp-related in this verse.

always had it as wasteofo2 and Brackish Girl... but after listenig to some Catholics versions too (and it's possible Frank's changed it) I'm pretty convinved it is "except for one/a little fish, bump into me, swear hes trying to talk to me" and think it used to be "to-me to-me to-me" but is now "where-where-where"
"bump into me, swear he's trying to talk to me" conceptually makes more sense than "but they tell me that he swears, tryign to talk to me" though that is what the Surfer recording sounds like I do conceed.

I never understood this damn lyric either. There must be an answer and there has to be something rhyming with "oy" in there.

"That came from me snorkelling in the Caribbean and having this very small fish trying to chase me. I don't know why - I don't know too much about fish behaviour." (Frank Black in SELECT, October 1997)
"Wait, wait, wait?" would make sense since it was chasing him.. |

The Frank Black Francis recording is much easier to understand. On that version, at least, it's clear he sings:
Except for one little fish Bump into me Swear he was trying to talk to me Said wait, wait, wait

I've read it interpreted as :
But they told me east is west Trying to talk to me, coy koi.
Which is a bit of a mouthful but my favourite, so I'm presuming it's that. |

uh....oops, too much fish talk, "i'm a little messed up on cough syrup now, so just like, nevermind"
Why is 'monosyllabic' such a long word? |

I hope i didn't start all that ^^^^^^^
In the DVD it seems pretty clear he says 'wait, wait, wait' at the end of that verse.

Like that now don't you think the 'where is my mind'-question is great after a line which is insane?

I always thought it was coi coi or something like that. Isn't that how dolphins communicate or something? I know there's some reasoning behind me thinking that's what he says but for the life of me I cannot remember.

This topic is funny. Especially because it's such a popular Pixies song.
I think in my version I sung:
Except for the little fish Bump in to me He swears Trying to talk to me.
Probably not right. But this could be intepretted as: All the fish behind the rock are scared of this one little fish because he uses alot of swear words. The fish bumps into Charles, and thinking it's a dam he has run into, the fish says "damn!" Charles thinks the fish is trying to talk to him, but he really is just swearing.

There is, of course, a fish called a koi, but I'm pretty sure it lives in fresh water, so it's unlikely Frank encountered one while swimming in the Caribbean.
