Was curious if any others out there have stories to share about meeting Frank Black. I was so stunned when I met him that I just sat there and stumbled over my own tongue. Would love to hear any stories about meetings with him.
My story goes like this...
I was living in L.A. at the time, and went to a LIVE concert. I was in the beer line, and some guy asked me if I went to the latest Frank Black concert. I told him no, but I wished I had. Now here's the wierd part.
Almost immediately after asking me if I attended the FB concert, he pointed to a guy standing near us and says, "Isn't that Frank Black?"
Sure enough it was. No fans gathered around him. He just stood there with another guy, so we both approached him.
He introduced us to the guy he was with, who I believe he said was his sound engineer. I asked about his next album (this was right after Teenager), and he said it was coming soon and he was now with American. I praised his work like a complete tongue-tied fool, asked him about the Pixies, and just overall sat there dumbfounded.
But from my impression he was great. Soft spoken, very nice. Just seemed to be a real genuine considerate guy.
Any other meeting stories to share?

When I saw the subject line, I thought it would be about a business-type meeting pertaining to Frank.
Now that I know what it's actually about, I'll say that I DID meet Frank at an in-store, but there isn't much to tell. I had him sign a poster and shook his hand, and I was really nervous the whole time.
I've reached 1000 posts / So I'm too cool to be in a cult. |

I was at a Dog in the Sand show at a small club in Somerville Ma and he was walking around the crowd before the show saying hi to different people that he appeared to know. I was in awe, but didn't slobber all over him like I actually wanted to. He was as down to earth as you can get.

I was a Dog in the Sand show in Philly and it was one of those shows where he was a little on the miserable side. Not really talkign to anyone afterwards. I hadn't caught him before hand. I wish I could have though.

Floop stalks him, I know that at least
However, I do remember the first time I popped Surfa Rosa into the "CD" player |

how many shows do you have to go to before you're at "stalking" level? |

Hi stalkers
I had the opportunity to meet the man 4 times after show or in-store gigs. Most of people seem not to dare but I do.... Despite his talent he is a normal human being you can talk with. You just have to feel the right moment to do it in order not to disturb him. I don't know how it is in the USA or other countries but in France and in the Netherlands, the venues where the Catholics have played are rather "after-show-meeting-friendly". I have also talked to Dave P, Mac Dave and Scott in the same circumstances and they were all nice.
I am not a stalker like Floop, though (I don't know if it is true but whatever... I carry on the rumor anyway )

My bro says by the time you've made your 3rd or 4th trip round the tourbus, you've officially entered stalking territory :) |

don't most stalkers usually work alone though? i fully accept the accusations, since i've been to a ridiculous amount of shows. but i usually go with friends or girlfriends.. and no, i don't hang around the tour bus ..
i actually make a concerted effort to NOT be stalkerish, since, becasue i go to so many shows (or have in the past 2 years) i don't want to freak them out (referring to FB and Catholics that is)
still, there are way more people here that have gone to more shows than me. i can't help it if i live in LA and Frank plays here all the fucking time. (or used to, before he moved to Portland. not that i know that) |

I have yet to be to a FB concert. He was just in the crowd watching the band Live and P.J. Harvey. Probably one of the last people on earth I expected to see there. |

I saw Frank play here in Denver about 3 years ago, or so. Only show I've ever had a chance to see, since I've spent most of the last 12 years living overseas in various places (Japan before moving here 5 ago).
The place was a former movie theater, seats removed, converted for mostly independent and underground artists and such. Orbit and some other band were opening for the Catholics. In the middle of the former theater, there was a little walled off little spot (walls only waist high) where the sound engineer was going to be working from.
Before the show started, the sound guy decided to pop in some U2 for people to listen to while waiting for Orbit to take stage. After a song or two, I noticed a familiar face come out from behind stage, walk down 3 or 4 steps, walk right flippin' past me and my friend Christine (who didn't have a clue), walked into the little walled sound "room," checked out the stereo system there... popped out that U2, put in a cassette and started playing... Ricky Nelson!
HA! I just about busted. Chucked the U2 in some corner like a piece of crap and schooled that sound guy with some old-fashioned rock'n'roll. Then he stepped out of there, walked right past me again, and disappeared behind stage. I never even thought of saying Hi.
But the thing that struck me most was that this was not a "rock star." This was someone who was so down to earth, he could walk through the room, dressed like anyone off the street (button-up short sleeve shirt and cheap slacks) and I honestly think I might have been the only person in the entire room who even noticed him. LOL No one glanced at him, seemed to recognize him at all. And I figured, hell, if I'd said a word, I would have ruined the beauty of the whole thing.
Frank is the coolest, precisely because he doesn't have to act cool. Give 'em hell and Ricky Nelson, Frank! LOL
